Mulawarman Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Mulawarman is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali - scenic rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, palaces, and amazing restaurants (cheap local Indonesian, raw food, vegan, organic etc.). Our central location in Ubud makes it easy to get to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.
For those who want to discover an "Authentically Balinese" luxury guest-house still preserved from the "tourist invasion" and which, according to the guidebooks, is one of the best places in town, come to Mulawarman. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Ubud is nestled in the green folds of countryside carpeted with terraced rice fields and carved by deep river gorges. Despite the increase in tourism Ubud conforms the image of being an example of the place where tourism development is harmoniously integrated into the village life.
Guest will have access to the shared reading room upstairs in the main building and a shared eating area. There are no refrigerator in the rooms, but if you need to leave something in the fridge you can use the kitchen fridge.
Interaction with Guests
Ibu Wayan will be at the guest house to greet you or one of her staff. She will also make a delicious breakfast in the morning too for you. So yes, Ibu will be around to help you with anything you might need.
I love my neighborhood because it is safe and quite but, I can easily walk or get a motorbike taxi to go do something. While you're in my neighborhood you should do some yoga at the yoga barn or taksu. Have a massage at one of the many little places....Zen spa is my favorite. Go Antonio Blanco Painting Museum. Of course visit the Ubud Palace go to the temple. Then do some exciting shopping and bargaining at the Ubud Market. Take a balinese cooking class. Have some gelato at Gelato Secrets. Then try to decide where to have dinner.......so many choices so much good food. Where ever you choose to eat don't miss eating at Sari Organic Restaurant in the rice fields this place is great for early sunset dinners and only 10-15min walk from Mulawarman. No Car access to Sari Organic you must walk or motorbike, amazing walk through the rice fields.
You have to go to Monkey forest and visit all the monkeys and please have someone in your group buy bananas. Now get the camera ready because it's going to be funny or a little scary depending on how much you like monkeys running to you and jumping all over you! Also only a 10minute walk from your room is the very hot and very cold baths with regular pool and sauna at the tjampuhan hotel that you can use for a small fee around $7 for the day. Walk down Jalan Monkey forest , that is the name of the main shopping road and there are a lot of restaurants, massages, and shopping on this road.
Getting around is very easy in Ubud.
You can walk , get a motorbike taxi or car taxi.
We can help you rent a motorbike or car if you like. If you would like a day tour we can arrange that with driver. We can also pick you up from the airport if you like for a charge of IDR 350,000 one-way.
The only house rules we have are to be mindful to us, to other guests , to the environment , and to yourself.
When it comes to smoking, we would like it done outside on your porch and not in your room.
If you are traveling with small children please be aware that we are located on the edge of a High Ravine. You are responsible for your children , please watch over them:)
We hope that all guests can truly relax and enjoy themselves while staying with us in Bali.
I made my booking last minute during the holiday weekend and Ibu made every effort to ensure I was taken care of - including having dinner available on Saturday, Day of Silence. This was above and beyond in my opinion.
The breakfast is delicious - something different each morning - and the coffee strong.
I was upgraded to a bigger room, which was an unexpected treat. Unfortunately, the ac didn't work. On the plus side - incredibly comfortable pillows!
Ibu will great you with warm hugs and a big smile. You are family there.
Room was lovely and bed very comfortable. Perfect distance from Ubud for walking to all of the main sites though a few minutes walk dissolved nearly all noises making for a relaxing place to escape. I stayed here for a week in February and was quite pleased overall. I booked airport pick up with Ibu Wayan and she and her husband came to the airport to collect me and I felt immediately I had a second home in Bali. Each morning I enjoyed her yummy pandan pancakes (Gluten Free as made from rice flour) I was regularly offered tea as I arrived back throughout my stay and had lovely chats with her family members who work together to maintain the space. A few quirks of any lodging in Bali as you are nearer to nature, a positive as my doors opened to a beautiful garden and I could see the hillside across with a small view of rice fields. This location in Ubud is perfect for those wanting to be near the yoga district of Penestanan, rice field walks towards Sari Organik and very easy walking to the main streets for lovely meals and shopping. I return to Bali regularly and am very happy to say that I will again stay at Mulawarman, that may be the best review one can give.
As a solo female traveller, initially I was alarmed; the location is set away along a canal that requires a flashlight, in the dark. However, once you reach the guest house it's absolutely beautiful & serene. Both Wayan & her staff are so warm, welcoming & accommodating. The guest house is parallel to Ubud's stunning rice fields, so you are minutes away from some breath taking scenery. This is budget travel at it's best in Ubud & I would definitely stay again.
Vår tid hos Wayan i Ubud var jättebra och mysig. Fint rum i välskött hus.
We spent 4 nights at Ibu Wayans place. It is really hidden but fortunately the friendly staff picked us up at the main road and helped us to carry our luggage. The house is located in a beautiful garden and it's really quite there. You can walk to Ubud town with lots of nice restaurants, bars and Yoga schools. Ibu Wayans staff was very friendly and welcoming, they prepared a nice breakfast for us every morning. Ibu Wayan even cooked a nice Balinese dinner for us and the other guests one night. She also helped us to book a hiking trip and her husband drove us to our next stay in Sanur. We would definitely visit our "Balinese Mama" again. :-)
Wayan was our Bali Momma, she took good care of us. She cooked us breakfast, arranged a car, attempted to do our laundry and was very sweet to us. She even escorted us back to the airport as she felt like she didn't get to spend enough time with us.
The place was very quiet in a secluded area, perfect to get some rest in the nights and still in a great locations, just a short walk to the main road.
The place was a little hard to find in the dark and had a lot of bugs. Once we switched rooms, there were a lot less bugs in our room and we had a gorgeous view of the rice paddy fields.
Overall it was quite a good experience.
