Mulawarman Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Mulawarman is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali - scenic rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, palaces, and amazing restaurants (cheap local Indonesian, raw food, vegan, organic etc.). Our central location in Ubud makes it easy to get to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.

For those who want to discover an "Authentically Balinese" luxury guest-house still preserved from the "tourist invasion" and which, according to the guidebooks, is one of the best places in town, come to Mulawarman. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Ubud is nestled in the green folds of countryside carpeted with terraced rice fields and carved by deep river gorges. Despite the increase in tourism Ubud conforms the image of being an example of the place where tourism development is harmoniously integrated into the village life.

Guest Access

Guest will have access to the shared reading room upstairs in the main building and a shared eating area. There are no refrigerator in the rooms, but if you need to leave something in the fridge you can use the kitchen fridge.

Interaction with Guests

Ibu Wayan will be at the guest house to greet you or one of her staff. She will also make a delicious breakfast in the morning too for you. So yes, Ibu will be around to help you with anything you might need.

The Neighborhood

I love my neighborhood because it is safe and quite but, I can easily walk or get a motorbike taxi to go do something. While you're in my neighborhood you should do some yoga at the yoga barn or taksu. Have a massage at one of the many little places....Zen spa is my favorite. Go Antonio Blanco Painting Museum. Of course visit the Ubud Palace go to the temple. Then do some exciting shopping and bargaining at the Ubud Market. (email hidden) class. Have some gelato at Gelato Secrets. Then try to decide where to have many choices so much good food. Where ever you choose to eat don't miss eating at Sari Organic Restaurant in the rice fields this place is great for early sunset dinners and only 10-15min walk from Mulawarman. No Car access to Sari Organic you must walk or motorbike, amazing walk through the rice fields.
You have to go to Monkey forest and visit all the monkeys and please have someone in your group buy bananas. Now get the camera ready because it's going to be funny or a little scary depending on how much you like monkeys running to you and jumping all over you! Also only a 10minute walk from your room is the very hot and very cold baths with regular pool and sauna at the tjampuhan hotel that you can use for a small fee around $7 for the day. Walk down Jalan Monkey forest , that is the name of the main shopping road and there are a lot of restaurants, massages, and shopping on this road.

  • I stayed at the Mulwarman for 5 weeks and Wayan and the staff made me feel like family and at home. Nothing was ever too much, and the staff were always willing to help so I always felt taken care of. Wayan went way above and beyond what I expected from an owner, even when she wasn't well. I didn't get to spend much time there as I was completing my yoga teacher training, but it really is a secret hideaway and perfect for anybody who wants to be away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud, yet close enough to the action. The wifi connection is not always reliable, but please note that this is the same everywhere in Ubud.

  • Very nice place to stay in Ubud. Clean and comfortable rooms. Ibu Wayan is a great host. I was upgraded to the room #2 (located on second floor and with great view on rice paddies) for the second night. Tasty coconut banana pancake for breakfast.

    Overall, good value for money.

  • My friend and I had a wonderful stay! Wayan (host) was so lovely, and made us the most incredible pancakes everyday. She also cooked for us, and everyone else staying there, a beautiful (super delicious) Balinese dinner, which made us feel very at home. She was like a house mum! The room was nice and surrounding garden beautiful.

The BnB is very close to the centre and very convenient, although it is down a long path, which isn't an issue. Wayan's husband also picked us up and dropped us at the airport which was great. Would definitely stay again. Was a very 'authentic balinese' vibe.

  • Amazing pandan coconut banana pancakes! Gorgeous place to stay in too.

  • Good. Just as pictures. Very clean. Great pancakes. The location down the little 100metre unlit and uneven path may not suit everyone but was fine for me. It's nice and peaceful and near some nice rice terraces. Wifi is average. Maybe compare prices for tours/taxis elsewhere.

  • Honest faces. Unabashed smiles. Silent peace. Sincere love. Quiet living. Simple pleasures. The little things. Belief of doing what is right, of karma, of taking responsibility for your actions. A people and a way of life… both profoundly uplifting and wisely still. Wisdom for in the moment living and daily appreciation. Mulawarman is all this and so much more. We came to Ubud to steep ourselves in tradition and culture. And the people at mulawarman are the ones who lit the way. An absolute gem tucked in a peaceful setting just outside the rice paddies in the heart of Ubud, yet away from the bustle of the town itself. Mulawarman has been a home to us. From the moment we first arrived we became family. Wayan, one of the most beautiful and kind hearted souls we have ever met. Everything she does is for love and that's all that matters to her. Family we became and got treated as such. Anything we needed she so willingly gave & from the heart. The charm that is here at Mulawarman had us extending our stay double the length of time we first intended. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a real Balinese experience. This place has become our second home and if time allowed we would have stayed longer. Thank you so much Wayan for everything you have done for us. We leave with eyes, mind & heart cracked wide open. A gift more valuable than anything we could ever possibly receive. It goes without saying - we'll be back!!

  • Thanks to Ibu Wayan I had the perfect stay in Ubud. She and her husband are wonderful hosts and made my visit very special. The rooms are just like on the pictures, the house is beautifully decorated, the food was delicious, and they even helped me arrange tickets for a temple dance and boat/taxi transfer. I highly recommend staying here, only a very short walk from the rice fields.
