Mulawarman Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Mulawarman is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali - scenic rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, palaces, and amazing restaurants (cheap local Indonesian, raw food, vegan, organic etc.). Our central location in Ubud makes it easy to get to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.
For those who want to discover an "Authentically Balinese" luxury guest-house still preserved from the "tourist invasion" and which, according to the guidebooks, is one of the best places in town, come to Mulawarman. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Ubud is nestled in the green folds of countryside carpeted with terraced rice fields and carved by deep river gorges. Despite the increase in tourism Ubud conforms the image of being an example of the place where tourism development is harmoniously integrated into the village life.
Guest will have access to the shared reading room upstairs in the main building and a shared eating area. There are no refrigerator in the rooms, but if you need to leave something in the fridge you can use the kitchen fridge.
Interaction with Guests
Ibu Wayan will be at the guest house to greet you or one of her staff. She will also make a delicious breakfast in the morning too for you. So yes, Ibu will be around to help you with anything you might need. Though I should tell you Bali has many Ceremonies all year round, so if Ibu Wayan is gone . She is either preparing for a Ceremony or going to one.
I love my neighborhood because it is quite but, I can easily walk or get a motorbike taxi to go do something. While you're in my neighborhood you should do some yoga at the yoga barn or taksu. Have a massage at one of the many little places....Zen spa is my favorite. Go Antonio Blanco Painting Museum. Of course visit the Ubud Palace go to the temple. Then do some exciting shopping and bargaining at the Ubud Market. Take a balinese cooking class. Have some gelato at Gelato Secrets. Then try to decide where to have dinner.......so many choices so much good food. Where ever you choose to eat don't miss eating at Sari Organic Restaurant in the rice fields this place is great for early sunset dinners and only 10-15min walk from Mulawarman. No Car access to Sari Organic you must walk or motorbike, amazing walk through the rice fields.
You have to go to Monkey forest and visit all the monkeys and please have someone in your group buy bananas. Now get the camera ready because it's going to be funny or a little scary depending on how much you like monkeys running to you and jumping all over you! Also only a 10minute walk from your room is the very hot and very cold baths with regular pool and sauna at the tjampuhan hotel that you can use for a small fee around $7 for the day. Walk down Jalan Monkey forest , that is the name of the main shopping road and there are a lot of restaurants, massages, and shopping on this road.
Getting around is very easy in Ubud.
You can walk , get a motorbike taxi or car taxi.
We can help you rent a motorbike or car if you like. If you would like a day tour we can arrange that with driver. We can also pick you up from the airport if you like for a charge of rp.350,000 one-way.

We hope that all guests can truly relax and enjoy themselves while staying with us in Bali.
A secret spot it is, we only stayed for 1 night, but it was a very nice place. We arrived a bit early, so we didn't meet ibu wayan, but her staff was very nice for us! The breakfast was indeed very good and unfortunately we had to leave in the morning. Thank you for having us!
I had a lovely stay with Ibu Wayan. All of the reviews about her making you feel like family are completely true. She takes care of her guests, and anything you need, just ask her.
The place is close enough in Ubud to be accessible by walking, but it is set back enough to feel like your far outside the city. It's very quiet. The rooms are nice. The breakfast is great.
I enjoyed my stay so much that I am going back next week for another 5 days! Looking forward to coming back "home".
Initially we got lost getting there, it is a little tricky to find, but this is nice as its tucked out of the way from all the hustle and bustle. They welcomed us with a watermelon juice.
The room was simple and appointed with average features. The room had a slightly musty vibe due to its jungle setting.
Was possibly a little overpriced, but all in all was fine for the one night we stayed.
We are happy you enjoyed the pancakes , Ibu loves to cook and she thinks of her guests as family. We do apologize if you did not like your room. I am going to double check on your complaints today, so that we do not have this problem with future guests. Thanking for bringing this to my attention. Happy Future Traveling.
The rooms are located in the center of Ubud but situated in a small strip of serene jungle, really amazing! Ibu Wayan was really Nice, taking care of our every need. We felt really at home!
Thank you for the nice review, Ibu Wayan also really enjoyed your company. She thought of you as her daughter, super sweet. Sorry if you were a little scared , we are set on top of the ravine , so it is lush with plants and can get dark. Don't forget we have flashlights for the walk to borrow also , for your next trip to see us.
Take care and Happy Traveling,
The secret garden Wayan ...
What a great experience! Wayan greeted us warmly on arrival with hot drinks and we were immediately felt at ease. The housing situation is ideal, between the city center of Ubud and the rice fields , everything is done with no problem !
And in the morning they are your taste buds will be delighted with the wonderful banana pancakes !
But it is especially the kindness and affection that has brought us Wayan that marked us deeply.
