The studio also has a well equipped kitchen if you wish to cook your own meals or use of a bbq or weber.Rotorua also has many good restaurants we can recommend, and most only a few minutes drive.
All linen and towels are provided and also internet, phone, tv and stereo and washing machine. The bed is a very comfortable queen size bed (purchased last year). There is a two seater sofa and also a moonpod armchair for you to relax in.
The landscaped garden and private spa area is a lovely place to relax while listening to the tuis and other birds.
Our neighbourhood is quiet and safe and as we are situated on a hill and free from the sulphur smell! There is only one road in so there is also very little traffic.
Just a few meters down the road is the best view in Rotorua which overlooks Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island. It is at the start of the Rotorua Tree Trust which is a huge area planted and landscaped with lovely walks.
Rotorua is a fantastic place to visit. There is so much to do and it is like no other place in New Zealand. Being in the central North Island it is also very well located to visit other areas. If forests, beaches, mountains, lakes, tramping, biking, bushwalks, geothermal hot springs, luging, ziplining, experiencing maori culture, wildlife, wining and dining, skiing, rafting, relaxing (to name just a few!!!) sound like you then you better get here! (Most people find they need at least two whole days in Rotorua.)
Your hosts (Jess and Barry) are very knowledgeable and passionate about our city and can help you select the excursions and locations which will help you make the most of your time here. We look forward to meeting you.
* special discounts for 5 nights or more please enquire.

At first I was a little hesitant to write this review, because as you're about to see, I'm about to sound like a paid advertiser. But I assure you that I'm not! Just a wow'd guest that had the pleasure of staying at Jess and Barrys' wonderful home.
If you are going to be staying in or near Rotorua, do yourself a favor and check with these hosts! Thank me later, after you've stayed!
The cottage is so beautifully constructed and decorated. It is inviting, open, airy and impeccably styled and detailed. All amenities are provided (which are top-notch, by the way), including a wonderful selection of fruits, sandwiches and cereals for breakfast. The shower is heavenly. The bed seems to be constructed of cumulus clouds - so comfortable that I'm convinced a house fire may not adequate for me to want to leave. And they have a hot tub! Why are you still reading this?? Quit, and start the booking process now!
The neighborhood is lovely and so quiet. If you're looking for a restful stay, you'll have trouble beating this. Actually - You can't. Just stay here.
If all of this wasn't enough, the hosts are wonderfully kind, salt of the earth people. Jess is infuriatingly talented and creative. Her partner is equally kind and pleasant to chat with. Very knowledgable on the local eateries and things to see.
Now... to continue my search for the types of linen's that were in the cottage. I need them in my life.
My wife and I spent 10 nights at The Summer House B&B, mountain biking by day and relaxing by night. We loved every minute of it.
Our hosts Jess and Barry were so welcoming, yet the B&B felt very private and we enjoyed the spacious backyard and loads of privacy.
We cooked most of our own meals thanks to the well equipped and stocked kitchen. The supplied breakfast was nothing short of incredible: from bacon, eggs, hash browns and pancakes, through to home made muesli, fresh fruits and gourmet yoghurts, and everything in between. And if that weren't enough, Jess also provided some home-baked goodies (chocolate brownies, caramel slice etc) too. The breakfasts were definitely a highlight.
Initially were were worried the cottage would be too small, but it wasn't at all. There was ample space and a sun-soaked outdoor area for relaxing and a private, shaded spa area for soaking after a big day on the trails. The hot tub was really clean and well maintained.
The bed was softer than ours at home, which is ultra firm, but supportive enough and we slept like babies every night. We love our music and they have the best sound system of anywhere we have ever stayed. It happily played our own music from our iPhones. We used the washing machine most days so it was great to have it right in the cottage.
Our hosts provided a secure place to store our bikes and a hose for washing them down. It was nice to have our bikes tucked away and not under our feet. There was even a place for us to store helmets, shoes etc outside to dry.
The world famous Rotorua mountain bike tracks are less than 10 minutes ride away, most of which is bush track. The climb up the hill after the ride wasn't as tough as it looked and worth it for the views and being away from the sulphur smell.
We will definitely stay again when we go back to Rotorua. We can't imagine finding any place better.
We loved our stay with Jessica and her place is fabulous! It was like we were in a separate little house with our own yard. It sits away from the main house so you have total privacy. Jess and her husband met us and helped my girlfriend with her ridiculously heavy luggage. Lol
The place was clean and beautifully decorated. My girlfriend even bought Jess' painting that was hanging on the bedroom wall. (We actually fought over it but it was HER birthday. Haha) Also, we had delicious breakfast food available to us both days.
Jess' place is in a great location too. It sits up in the hills so you don't get the sulphur smells but it's very close if you want to visit the mud baths and thermal park. We visited Hobbiton, Hell's Gate, and did zorbing (you must do this!!).
We stayed here for two awesome days and I wish it had been longer.
The Summer House is amazing. We have enjoyed some wonderful Airbnb accommodations in NZ but this one was truly special. After a long travel day to arrive in Jessica and Barry's back garden retreat was like hitting the spa. The wee house has everything one would want, lovely bed, full kitchen and bath, beautiful garden views, total quiet and privacy, a hot tub (spa) just across the lawn.
We felt completely spoiled by the home baked blueberry muffins and the plethora of items provided for breakfast were equally delicious. Jessica's art adorns the walls and her gracious touches of hospitality are sprinkled about the house.
Occasionally, the sulphur aroma that defines Rotorua can be detected if the wind blows up from town to the hillside, but this was minimal.
There is a local bus but a car would be useful to come and go from this location.
The Summer House was amazing! Had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay (and much more). The spa was a bonus and a great way to relax after a long day. Comms with Jess before our stay were great and she was really helpful when we met her, suggesting some good spots to visit. We stayed for 3 nights but could have stayed here much longer - a home away from home!
We spent the majority of our honeymoon at the Summer House! Jessica and Barry both have such a lovely disposition! They were non-intrusive, and went about their business, but more than happy to have a chat and share some great local knowledge. The breakfast was great, and the facilities were all top notch. Loved the hot tub. The whole thing was very private, considering we were in someone else's back yard.
My husband and I spent two nights in the summer studio and really enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and had all the necessities to never leave! The freshly baked food by Jess was a plus. We had a small mishap when we arrived there was so electricity( which went out due to a burned wire) Jess and her husband were out of town but she was in contact for us and sent her mother to come save the day. Within hours it was all fixed! We def recommend this place!
I live in a beautiful part of the country, in a beautiful part of the world with my partner Barry . I am a part time chef and an artist and in my spare time I love gardening, reading, watching movies and exploring new places.
I opened The Summer House because I think we have got something really special here . Our little piece of paradise...We love interaction with people but also aim to combine this with discretion and privacy so our guests can enjoy as much peace as possible.
