The Space

Charming, quiet, newly remodeled one bedroom apartment in a garden setting. The apartment is equipped with coffee maker and filters, teakettle, teapot, plenty of different teas to choose from and microwave oven. There's a cute rustic red china set with cups and glasses and every type of utensil needed. There is a real queen size bed with memory foam top for a real comfortable night of sleep. Luxuriate in the claw foot bath/shower. Bathroom has soap and hair dryer. Large walk-in closet has hangers and shelves. The place has lots of built-in features and unique touches. Enjoy a walk up the garden path, among many fruit trees of tangerine, lime, lemon, meyer lemon, buddha hand, orange, blood orange, pear, fig, avocado, peach, and loquat. There is even the old time quince in the garden bounty. You will find many herbs and colorful flowers nestled away. And if you make it to the far reaches of the garden a bench over-looking the ravine and creek below awaits you. Washer and dyer on the premises. Easy parking and access to HWY 580 and HWY 13. 10 minutes to the bay bridge. Sorry no pets. I am delighted to report upgrades to the apartment... new hot water heater and new toto toilet!

  • We had a great time in Marlenes beautiful apartment. All is as described here, very uncomplicated, clean and with all you need for a good stay. We slept very good, nights are quiet and relaxing. Also the garden gives soul the opportunity for recreation - and exciting discovery opportunities for our little daughter.
Big and fast washer and dryer helped us spending less time with housework.
Marlene is a very friendly and accommodating host.

Thank you Marlene, we hope to come back some day :-)

  • Very zen, very mod. The cute footed bathtub and simple design makes for a relaxing, clean environment. Gorgeous backyard! Only a 20 minute drive from San Fran. My friend and I stayed for two nights and were out in the city almost the whole time so we didn't speak to Marlene in person, but her correspondence and our arrival/departure were all handled very professionally and smoothly.

  • Everything was perfect! The apartment looks exactly as on pictures, new, clean and comfortable. Parking was right out front and free and also Wireless Internet. Easy check-in and check-out. I would highly recommend this place!

  • Perfect sized spot for me- easy travel to the freeway, but don't get caught in 580 commuter traffic!!
Marlene's place was clean, well stocked. Wish I could have spent more time in her beautiful garden!!!

  • This appartment was all that it promised to be. We loved the beautiful interior and felt like coming home after a long day in the city. The kitchen was very well equipped and we could even cook full menus. The area was safe and the host very easy to get along with and always helpful when we had questions. We absolutely recommend this place!!!

  • Our stay at the Hilmont House was awesome. Everything was totally as described and fit our needs exactly. We had our one year old with us for this six-day trip and the walk-in closet worked perfectly as a mini bedroom for her. Her pack-n-play fit just right!

The garden in the back greeted us with such a wonderful freshness every time we walked past or through it. So great!

The location was a great, given that it was in Oakland rather than San Francisco, which is where we spent most of our time. Just off the highway, and we memorized the directions back and forth across the Bay Bridge by the second day. Location felt safe and private.

Don't look any further! This is where you need to stay. :)

  • I had a great stay for three nights. The apartment was cozy and well designed and had a very quiet feel to it with lots of Buddha statues around. There was a lovely garden too. Marlene was a great host though I did not get a chance to meet her.

  • Marlene's place fitted our needs perfectly! The apartment is very clean and so livable. Excellent use of space and decor. My wife and I were saying how we could totally live here. We would like to transplant her apartment to some island and live the rest of our lives in peace. This is exactly how we felt about her place... in peace. The location is perfect, right off the highway, easy access, and feel very secure. She has coffee and tea in the cupboards, sugar, plates and bowls and utensils. A nice size fridge. It's very cute apartment! We would've have liked to have stayed longer and actually spent some time with her and talked, she seemed very cool. There was a peaceful garden, that I'm sure comes alive when in season. We had a very short stay actually, only two nights we ended up taken the red-eye back home early. But the apartment is perfect, clean, comfortable, and felt very secure. She mentioned she was having a photo shoot of her Buddhas in the garden the day we arrived. I felt soo bad because I was working on no sleep and wasted saturday and slept from about 230pm till 5am the next morning! Her airbed was very comfortable! But, I wanted to wake up and check out her photo shoot. Overall, it's a really nice place to stay if you don't mind driving to Oakland. It was our first time to the SFO area and the apartment is in a nice neighborhood. It only took us 15 mins to get from Fishermans Warf to the apartment, never had one issue with traffic, so easy to get around.

  • Marlene's place is as described, clean and tastefully decorated. The garden is charming, also fragrant! And for the first time ever that I discovered how comfy an air bed can be! It beats real mattress in my opinion. The place is not so close to downtown but no problem if you have a car.
