Description

The Space

We're happy to take your last minute/same day (night!) and one-day reservations, no problem!

Classic Boston apartment with a great view of Fenway Park accommodates up to 4 (queen bed & queen/full pullout couch, as well as a pack-n'-play stowed in the closet for little people), separate hall, kitchen ready for cooking (full stove, microwave, toaster oven, pots, pans, tea kettle, dishes, silverware, some dry goods, and almost always tea), and small separate dining room with table+ chairs, bathroom with original cast iron tub, and some original white patina-ed subway tile. Just a couple minutes walk from Kenmore, Museum, Fenway (subway) and Yawkey (new commuter rail) T stations, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, Rose Garden, Fenway Community gardens, New England Conservatory, Mass. Historical Society, Newbury street all within immediate short walking distance. Walking distance to Copley and Prudential, as well as to MIT across the Harvard Bridge.` On the shelves is a part of our big collection of fashion magazines (int'l Vogues mainly)
I'm also adding examples of our vintage print collection and my own artwork to the walls.

NEWS ( Dec 6th) We've finished the new pull out couch cushions and it's in the apartment -- all ready for current and future groups of 3, 4+ guests!

Guest Access

The apartment, the hallway of the building, and the laundry room in the basement of 1167 boylston--use the key, go down to basement, through the door to 1167 then right down the hallway towards the front of the bldg in the basement. There are tons of coin op washer/dryers. Free storage of luggage in our Beacon hill apt. for up to 18hrs. after checkout.

Interaction with Guests

I love airbnb guests, but don't get to meet all of them. I prepare the apartments almost always between 1pm and 4pm. This one typically between 2pm and 3.30pm. If you're there when I come by to prepare it, i'll see you. Other than that probably not, though I'm always happy to meet you in Beacon Hill or by special arrangement.

The Neighborhood

Fenway Park, Fenway the Park (the "Back Bay Fens"/muddy river, rose garden, are all within a 'block'. Just beyond the MFA, esplanade and numerous colleges. What's not to love?

Getting Around

You are around the block from Kenmore B/C/D Green line station. Also many MBTA buses on the surface at Kenmore. The 1 bus to MIT/Central/Harvard Yard and to Symphony/Dudley is one longer block away. Yawkey station (Framingham/Worcester) is conveniently 3 min walking. Newbury st is also a short walk away. Recommend not having/taking or certainly parking any car you may have for the duration of your stay.

House Rules
Check-in is after 1PM

No Smoking anywhere on the property!

DO NOT ask anyone but me how to get into the building or where the lock box is
DO NOT mention airbnb to anyone around the building, or leave airbnb printouts laying around.

Sheets, towels and other cleaning are done by me. I do these things at different times. Always before dinner time (or before you arrive it's a really late arrival). Probably before 3pm, during the school year at about 1pm usually. If you have really specific needs, you should speak up ahead of time.
Never assume cleaning will happen before 3pm. 12noon-3pm check ins are a courtesy.
Occasionally cleaning happens 4pm-ish, always by 6pm and not after your arrival if arriving later. Do not write reviews about beds that were unmade if you were allowed to check in early.

In general no dogs please. Other pets are generally allowed, if for instance you happen to travel with your kitty...or ferret (check first)

Please confine trash to wastebaskets and take trash out (behind building on basement level, go out back door, place in red dumpsters--hard to miss!) if you are staying more than a couple days/ have significant/smelly trash that would be appreciated. Let's not give rodents/bugs a reason to try to invade the building.

-People who write reviews about how the trash wasn't taken out before 4pm on their arrival day then don't take it out themselves after their stay WILL actually be given a low cleanliness star rating.

-I provide lockout assistance as promptly as possible, and will typically go out of my way to do so. If you lost or broke the keys, you will owe up to $50 for their replacement. If you have an issue in the middle of the night you can try calling, but please be understanding (i'd rather be sleeping...). Do not ask about refunds for temporary problems with locks: again, I will provide assistance but not refunds. Refunds will only happen when I'm out of town and cannot assist or reasonably send someone else to assist.

I have been hosting people from all over the world through Airbnb for more than three years now and have really enjoyed the experience. Chatting with guests upon check in lets me not only tell them what a great city Boston is and how much it has to offer but to also listen to stories of where they live or have been to. That's what makes Airbnb such a great community builder in my mind - connecting people from all parts and walks of life.
Just like all of the travelers that I've hosted, I am a traveler myself - having been to a number of countries in Central Asia, Europe, and lived for a time in Micronesia. Each time I travel, I make sure to find a local connection to tell me about places off the beaten path that a tourist guide might miss, and if all else fails - I just enjoy seeing where my feet (or a local bus/train/subway) take me. So if you're looking for the best Ethiopian food in Boston or a little known museum (a whole room of the most realistic glass flowers hand blown in the 19th century), I can definitely point you in the right direction.
Speaking of directions, I bike a LOT around town and would be happy to provide a bike when you stay at either of my places. Boston may have a great (oldest in North America) subway system, but sometimes it's just nice to get on a bike and see where the next street takes you!
What keeps me not only travelling on Airbnb but also hosting are the notes that I frequently get, letting me know what a great time someone had or how much they enjoyed visiting a part of city I mentioned to them. These notes always put a smile on my face and leave me knowing that I have made someone's visit memorable!
