The Susan Buchanan House in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood was built in 1896 for the Buchanan family, from County Tyrone, Ireland. We are close to multiple restaurants and bars, and just a 15 minute walk to the center of the city.
This is a private room in a shared home. Both guest rooms in this house were renovated in 2013, and include brand new mattresses and bedding. The Azure Suite contains a queen-sized bed and can fit two guests.
I work regular hours Monday-Friday at a museum in Midtown. Generally I check in guests after 5pm, but other arrangements can be made if you wish to check in during the day.
Guests have access to the entire house, including:
Kitchen -- Feel free to use our appliances, dishes, etc. Space in the refrigerator and cabinets is always set aside for guests.
Bathrooms -- The upstairs bathroom includes a claw foot tub with shower. The is also a half-bath downstairs.
Laundry room -- Guests are welcome to use our washer, dryer, detergent, and iron in the second-floor laundry room.
Downstairs contains a parlor, TV room, and dining room, all of which are open to guests. Wireless internet is also available (password "susanbuchanan").
I tend to leave guests in peace, but you're welcome to hang out or join me at the table for a meal.
We stayed in Room #1 in historic Corktown. Paul has done an excellent job restoring this grand old lady. The room was lovely, surprisingly quite and the bed comfy.Paul was a great host and gave us suggestions without being too intrusive. Paul's house was within walking distance from the Rosa Parks bus stop but there is a bus stop close by. There is also a Breakfast/Lunch cafe ,bagel shop and PJ's pub close by.Paul also showed us room #2 which was equally as lovely.
Paul is super nice. He picked me up from the Mega bus station and drove me around the city several times. The house is extremely clean and neat. I would love to stay there again sometime soon!
Paul was a good sport about my late arrival and early departure. Neighborhood offered safety, easy parking and a few great spots for drinks and food. I was only there for a night but would come back here if staying in Detroit. Very nice house. Very clean room. Can't ask for more.
Paul was really helpful and picked me up when I arrived in Detroit. I enjoyed my stay is this charming place. Would definitely come back when I visit Detroit.
Paul hosts a very lovely place to stay! It was clean, comfortable, warm and friendly! Paul was helpful in giving us some tips about places to explore, very generous with his hospitality, and fun to chat with. We will definitely stay here if we come again to Detroit. As a bonus, his home is in a lovely old neighborhood near some great places to eat and drink. Much recommended
Staying with Paul during the holidays was perfect! We had a quiet oasis away from the chaos of family and friends. The Buchanan House has been beautifully restored and Paul is so gracious to share it with us. We can't wait to stay with you all in the future!!
Paul was an amazing host, very welcoming, helping and flexible. House is beautiful, cozy and well decorated. Our room was very clean and warm with big comfortable bed.
Location is very convenient within walking distance to Detroit downtown. There are several good food places nearby and if you want to have some fun in the evenings MGM Grand Casino is 5 minutes away.
You can't go wrong with this choice! I highly recommend staying with Paul.
Paul was a wonderful host and it was a real pleasure to be his guests. He definitely made our stay in Detroit very memorable! The Corktown Buchanan House was a fantastic choice! :)
Paul was helpful and flexible, even when I arrived hours late. I would stay at his home again, which is very welcoming.
Arrival at Paul's home was easy, using my GPS: I had no trouble finding it. Parking is convenient, on the street out front. I was a bit concerned about noise, being that the property is a block or two from a major artery through the city, but once inside the house, I was pleased with how quiet it was. Paul was a very gracious host, and made me feel welcome, then left me to my own devices when I needed to work on my computer in preparation for the next day's activities. My room was clean, the bed comfortable, and I loved the whimsey of some of the decor, especially the Don Knotts "Do not disturb/make up the room" door hanger. My chronically sore knees and I had slight difficulty getting in and out of the claw-foot tub/shower in the bathroom, so I was grateful there was a grab bar on the wall next to the tub.
