Great location! 1 block to Valencia, 2 blocks to Dolores Park, 8 minute walk to Mission/16th. Street BART. There is a queen size bed with memory foam mattress, small refrigerator microwave, and access to the backyard. Bathroom attached.

The Space

The space is on the ground floor with a sliding glass door that opens to the back yard. The main room has a queen size bed, dresser, desk, and futon sofa, cable TV, and shelves to organize your stuff.
There is a small room outside of the bathroom that
has table, small fridge, and microwave.Since it is not a real kitchen, there are disposable plates and utensils because doing dishes in the bathroom would not be a good idea for our plumbing. You will find a coffee maker and the basics to make your coffee. There is also a W/D in that room.

The bathroom has only a curtain for a door, the toilet is under the stairs, so a sloping ceiling and there is a sink and shower.

Guest Access

The separate access is via a ground level hall that takes you from the street to the separate entrance and backyard. The hall is were the refuse is stored for the building as well as bikes.

Interaction with Guests

With your separate entrance, you will basically be on your own. I will try to answer any questions you have.

The Neighborhood

The Mission is hard to describe. It is vibrant, and a little bit of all that SF has to offer. There is great food, and the best people and this block of SF has the best micro-climate in the whole city. I feel lucky to live here.

Getting around

BART is 4 blocks away(Bay Area Rapid Transit).taking you to other cities nearby. #14 and #49 bus are 2 blocks away(Mission St, downtown, Ghiradelli Sq). J-Church train is 3 blocks(downtown, Noe Valley). 33 is half a block(Casto, Haight)

Parking is difficult. Paid parking is $24 per day and 3 blocks away. The streets have 2 hour limited parking during the day, and posted days for Street Cleaning when you can't park on that street for a 2 hour time range. Parking is free if you can find a spot, and leave your car between 7pm and 11am the next day.

Other Things to Note

The back yard is a shared space, but because you have the most convenient access, odds are you will be the only one using it.

  • Karen's place is in such a fantastic location. If you're visiting San Fran and want to be in a great neighborhood, close to great coffee shops, restaurants, shops, parks, murals and public transport, then this is the place for you!
Her place was really clean and tidy. She left us little soaps and extra care items if we'd forgotten them and maps of the area.
Check in and check out was really easy.
    I highly recommend her place!

  • Karen's place was a great little refuge on our visit to San Francisco. The private entrance is convenient and the very soft foam mattress topper on the bed was incredibly sleep-inducing. We loved getting the famous pastries from Tartine bakery (only one block away) and enjoying them amongst the flowers and greenery of Karen's beautiful backyard patio. She was also kind enough to provide a few little treats for our short stay! Would happily stay again.

  • She let us come early before check in time and leave our bags there. The location is perfect! So close to many great places in the Mission. Having a private entrance is great, so I don't bother anyone when coming back late.

  • Karen was super-helpful, and very responsive to all of our questions. We had great instructions on how to get in and how to leave the key once we left. Also, the space was clean, with a private entrance and an attached restroom with a shower, and Karen left all these little amenities for us to use too! We had a quiet, clean, private experience in the absolute middle of the Mission. It was really a sweet experience. :)

  • Nice comfortable room and queen bed with a lovely garden in back - perfect location on a quiet little street, but close to everything in the bustling Mission area. Friendly and helpful host family lives right upstairs. Perfect location in the Mission- close to restaurants, public transportation.

  • Highly recommended! First of all, the place is even nicer than the pictures suggest. Karen keeps the place very clean, organized, and stocked with everything you might need. Karen provided clear instructions about picking up the key and was easy to reach. The location of the apartment is great - you can easily walk to public transit (about 6-7 minutes) and there are many good restaurants, bars, and shops nearby.

There are only a couple of minor things that I thought worth mentioning for others to be aware of: as described in the listing, the ceiling above the toilet is sloped, so you have to watch your head. Also, the bed has a soft memory foam mattress so if you are used to a firm mattress, you may find that it feels a bit strange. Other reviewers seem to find it very comfortable, so it depends on what you are used to.

Overall, I was very happy with my stay and would definitely stay at Karen's again without hesitation.

  • Karen was very communicative and helpful, everything was as described, if not better (thanks for the chocolates!), and the location is fantastic (if you want to be in Mission, which you should).

  • My stay with Karen was truly awesome. It exceeded my expectations. Karen is an experienced traveler and you can tell by what she has stocked in this private room. If you happened to forget anything from an iPhone charger to a toothbrush, to slippers or even an umbrella, Karen has your back!

The room was welcoming, clean, very private and comfortable. The mattress is probably the most comfortable mattress I've ever laid on. The patio was pretty nice and relaxing. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that she had a washer and dryer, we successfully avoided a trip to a laundromat.

Karen was super welcoming and friendly. Super Knowledgeable of the mission district and on the must-sees of San Francisco. We had a rental car and coming from someone who lives in the suburbs - I didn't find parking to be the easiest to find, unless we went to a parking garage. On our last day staying in San Francisco, Karen was kind enough to save us a parking spot right near our airbnb location so we didn't have to pay for the parking garage. Thought that was pretty awesome of her (thanks Karen)

I'm satisfied with my experience and I'd 100% recommend staying here!

About
I finished my MBA in June 14 years ago, and quit my job the next month and have been a stay-at-home mom since. My husband is from Bangladesh, and I am lucky to have been able to travel there and India and stay with family and really get to see life as they live it everyday. I prefer to get off the tourist trail when I travel. Favorite destination is Thailand.
