Puerto Viejo is a great place to come and experience another way of living and enjoying life. With 5 different beaches within biking distance, you can rent a bike and take a surf lesson, or just relax on the friendly beaches here in Puerto Viejo. Walking down the street, you can drink fresh coconut water straight from the tree, eat some local, fresh baked banana bread or yucca pudding, and buy some hand-crafted souvenirs made from coconuts, cacao shells, sea shells, one of the many brightly-colored seeds found locally, and other different local fabrics. You can finish the day watching some live music near the beach or watching a futbol game in a local bar. You can really live the Pura Vida.
Puerto Viejo is walking, bike, and car friendly. It is a small enough town that you won't need a car to get around, but if you do have one there are spaces to park near the cabinas.
There are also buses to take you to Limon, Cahuita, Bri Bri, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva, Manzanillo, and Sixaola.
From San Jose, you will need to take a taxi to the bus stop San Carlos, and from there you can take the bus directly to Puerto Viejo De Limon, with a stop in Limon.
If you prefer, we can also help you arrange a private or Shared shuttle from the airport or your hotel in San Jose directly to our cabinas here in Puerto Viejo.
Once you arrive in Puerto Viejo, you can use this map to help you get around. (website hidden)

What a great place to stay! I felt really welcome and they'll help you in anyway they can. I was there for for a week. Just to give an example how they treat their guests: on fridays the family gets together and sings gospel songs together. They invited also the guests to join and it was such a nice experience, because this family is so open and welcoming. I was also sick a couple of days and she really took care of me. Veronica is just a very good person (as well as here entire family). Thank you for these great couple of days!
Veronica had a great affordable place that was just off the main road. The room was clean and comfortable. I unfortunately spent little time in the cabin. I was busy checking out the surf, the shops and the food. Veronica made a great break fast and I had a few chances to talk to her and her husband about the Afro-carribean as well as healthy vegetarian lifestyle. I could have easily stayed longer.
What an amazing experience! Veronica and her family are so welcoming. The place has amazing character and is close to the main street but far enough away to be quiet and secure. If you get the chance have breakfast with the family and other travellers and if you are vegetarians or vegans this is THE place to eat even if you don't stay here. This was the home away from home we didn't even realise we were missing.
I had a very positive and enjoyable experience that I would not have been able to experience had I stayed elsewhere. Veronica and all her family were extremely welcoming, friendly and treated me as a guest that was staying with their family rather than just paying for a room for a few nights. The whole family was keen to interact with you on many levels as well as leave you to go out and explore the area and just seek advice if required, if that's what you wanted. Veronica's knowledge of the area was extensive but also her invaluable knowledge of local carribean plants and foods was incredible, and her cooking very tasty! Not only is she a wonderful kind hearted lady she is eager to share her knowledge to those who would like to find out more about her passion for food and natural health and heeling. If you are looking for a comfortable, safe place to stay and do your own thing you can do that here, however if you are keen to interact with your host and experience the local culture on a deeper level you will definitely find that here with Veronica and family regardless of your background. I cannot fault their hospitality and it is obvious her entire family do this more out of love than for financial reason. I had a wonderful experience and highly recommend Veronica's Place. Great location, safe, clean, and a wonderful family!! I hope to go back in the future to visit them again. Highly recommend!
From a personal level I highly recommend Veronica's place to those from an afro carribean/south american background that have left the area and have forgotten the importance of the native plants and foods we grew up on. A stay with Veronica would be a great way for you to regain those skills and knowledge to maintain that part of our culture. - From a health perspective this would also benefit anyone, regardless of background as Veronica's knowledge is priceless. A truely amazing lady - I hope we meet again :)
My friend and I could not have asked for a better experience at Veronica's place! I only wish we stayed for more than 2 days. If you're looking for an authentic experience of the Afro-Caribbean culture look no further than Veronica's! The living situation is pretty minimal (cold showers, public bathroom, etc) but the welcoming family greatly makes up for any discomfort you might encounter. If you choose to stay here make sure to leave room to hangout with the family and join them for the $5 breakfast for the amazing food and conversation.

My name is Veronica . I am married and have five kids who are now grown up. We grew up in a little town at the Caribbean Coast in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. My descendants and family are Jamaican. We are very proud of our culture.
I grew up in a Cristian family were I learned about natural Healing and that we need to take care of our mind, body, soul and we need to find the balance between the three of them.
My grandparents and parents were naturalist, it means that they always worked with plants and herbs. When somebody is sick or has an allergy, they cure them with their knowledge of the plants, trees and herbs. They passed it on to us and my husband and I continue to pass our home remedies (: like fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables) to our children and to other people who wants to change their lives in a healthy way.
All these are my inspiration along with the bible and nature that show me that my body is the temple of the holy spirit were God abides.
The son , the water, the air, exercise, making time and the trust of God are the law of nature.
My husband and I still lives in this small town in Puerto Viejo where everybody knows us and where we do community serves for other people.
We offer short and long term accommodations. We have 3 family-size cabinas, and 3 private rooms in our house. The cabinas all have private bathrooms and a shared kitchen, and the rooms in the house are with shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room.
We also offer Home Remedies with our natural products, Caribbean Cooking Classes, consulting about health, Spanish lessons, volunteer projects.
