Guest will have their own kitchen equipped with a 2 burner stove, coffee maker, toaster oven, full size fridge with icemaker, a cooler, and can use our beautiful cenote-like pool.
Interaction with Guests
Guest will decide the level of interaction. We can provide great information about the area, suggestions, etc, or leave our guests completely private.
We live in the house on the other side of the pool, which is detached from the cabana and it is about 15 meters, or 45 away.
our location is halway between the Tulum beach and Coba archeological sites
there are many other archeoolgical sites nearby, such as Ek-Balam, and Chichen Itza
numerous cenotes just minutes away from property
best way to navigate the area is to have a rental car, since there are too many attractions nearby ..taxis are not expensive and we can arrange a private taxi driver to take you for a daytrip. Pickup from Cancun airport can be arranged for an extra charge as well.
Other Things to Note
the area here is safe, and with relatively few bugs and insects. Mosquitos are few, and mostly only in rainy season, which is Speptember-October.
We loved staying here. There were 5 of us (3 adults and 2 kids under 4) so we rented this cabana along with one other on Erika's property and stayed for a week. There are 2 individual stand alone cabanas and another 2 story building with 2 studio units (so 4 units total to rent at this time). The descriptions and pictures are accurate. The property is lovely. It is clear Erika and Chito tend to their property with love. We enjoyed the pool and the amazing food cooked by Juan. Breakfast is included and they were sweet enough to accomodate our children's desires for hotcakes almost everyday. Dinner is extra, but worth it (note- you have to place your order in the morning so they can be sure to have food for you in the evening). Ask what might be available that isn't on the menu!
Travel time to the beaches of Tulum were around 20-25 mins for us. A rental car is pretty important if you want to get around easily. We also went to Coba and some cenotes. As others have said, Erika is happy to share her knowledge of the area. She also hooked us up with some quality hammocks after we told her how much we loved theirs. It was great not having to navigate the tourist stalls to find a good one. Chito then gave us a lesson on hanging and storing our hammocks which was super helpful.
Our kids, especially our 16 month old, LOVED the animals. There were 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 peacock, 1 peahen, and some chickens. Our almost 4-yr old LOVED the pool. Erika provided us with a high chair and pack and play which was great. We loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat. We miss it already. Our only regret is we didn't get to chat with Erika and Chito more! Thanks for a great vacation!
Kelli, thank you for your review! We are happy you have enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you back in the future , so we can spend more time talking! Our menu is new , and as we go, we add more items on it. We will be adding this feature to all listings, so future guest will be aware of it in advance! Our best regards to all of you, including Stephanie!
Our experience in Erica's charming cabana was wonderful from start to finish. She welcomed us by coming to fetch us when I forgot directions and offering us beverages while we bombarded her with questions and the story of our trip.We were quite taken by the photos on the site and found their space to be so artistically created that is was far more beautiful than I had expected. Their place is magical with their love for animals (chicks had just been hatched and their peahen was sitting on her eggs) and those around them coming through in every in their every interaction. Chito, Erica's spearfishing, hardworking, affectionate and playful partner was very helpful with connecting us with local artisans when we were searching hammocks and other local goods. The two of them are so good to each other and their guests that you cannot help but have a fabulous time. The relationship between the two of them is infectious and people really are speaking the truth when they say that leaving feels more like leaving family than hosts of a vacation destination.
Merci Erika, Merci Chito
Super séjour! Erika et son mari son des hôtes charmants et aux petits soins.
La cabana est très mignonne et bien équipée.
Le logement est très bien situé à proximité du site archéologique de coba et à 20km de l'agitation de tullum.
This is our second home in Tulum, we always love it here!
We have just spent a fantastic week at Erika's small piece of paradise. Although only 20 minutes away from tulum and its amazing beaches, the tiny village of Macario Gomez allows a real Mexican experience. Erika's place offers just the right balance of comfort and laid back atmosphere to enjoy a relaxed vacations. Our 2 year old had so much fun with cats, dogs and birds around the property. Erika had a little park for him to sleep, which was just perfect. Breakfast is delicious and varied, which make for a good start of the day. We are so glad that we had decided to book the place for the week. From there we could make all our day trips (Coba ruins, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, various Cenote, etc.) with the car (mandatory if you want to truly enjoy you stay there).
Thank you Erika for a great week!
The listing was accurate - but in no way does the listing convey just how welcome Erika and Chito will make you feel when you're there. Truly, this is no ordinary rental. When you're there, you're family. Nonetheless, if you want a more quiet and removed experience, that's fine too. The property is plenty big enough to enjoy the gorgeous setting without feeling like you can't get a moment of privacy. It's stunning - and wait until all those orchids bloom! Why would all the those tourists to Tulum choose their crowded, impersonal, and drab accomodations when they could stay at this place? Yes - it's a solid 10 miles away from town, but with a car it's easy, and other guests had no issues getting a cab when needed. Morning breakfasts were delicious and ample!
We are both "pet people" and Erika and Chito have two sweet dogs, three cats, a couple of peacocks, chickens, and a tucan they're currently nursing back to health before it's released back into the wild. We loved sitting on the porch of our cabana, enjoying a good wifi connection and a glass of wine when their sweet little mutt Negra would emerge for a little attention (and perhaps a taste of whatever I might have been snacking on at the time!) Still the pets are not allowed in any of the cabanas, so people with allergies need not worry. They're spotless.

I am a Hungarian born in Slovakia with 25 years living in the US, now in Mexico. Moving to the Yucatan Peninsula has been my dream for the past 17 years, and I was able to finally follow my dream and build my very private paradise here. I love nature, animals, jungles, cenotes, and the sea. My husband is a local Mayan, who knows the area very well. We can give you lots of advise about places to visit in the area.
