  • The cottage is beautiful! The minute we entered the grounds and parked the car we knew we made the right decision booking with Gordon and Sandy. Peaceful grounds, lovingly maintained cottage. It was the personal touches Gordon and Sandy put into our stay that made it so wonderful: Sandy met us upon arrival and welcome us in, the cottage well presented, tasty muffins and fruit basket, milk and water in the fridge, electric blanket, nice big heater all running so we walked into a fantastic nice warm room:) Although our stay was for a night, the next day Gordon was kind enough to bring us out to feed the sheep and shared with us more about his home. And yes the sheep were very cute and ate happily out of our hands! Summary:A fantastic stay which we are still raving about. Wonderful and loving couple who hosted us. I don't usually say this but ..Everything is perfect. A definate must book.

  • Me and my girlfriend stayed here for a night, since we wanted to do the Hobbiton tour in near by Matamata. When Sandy & Gordon heard that we don't have a car they even offered to pick us (email hidden) center!
The cottage itself is really cozy and quite luxurious, but we were especially impressed by the beauty of the area in general.
The two hosts are heartwarmingly friendly.
We got way more out of this stay than expected and probably than deserved.
Next time we are in matamata we'll definetly come back!

  • Amazing amazing little cottage! We got there and it was beautiful (the land and the cottage!) and Sandy greeted us at the doorway! So close to the Shire's Rest (if you're looking to go to Hobbiton) and to some cool hikes! We only had time to get to the waterfall nearby but Sandy had so much info of near by attractions, so you shouldn't be bored! Thank you for having us in your beautiful cottage!

  • Small and cosy, we stayed 1 night in the cottage and it was the best sleep we had in a while - super comfy, warm and oh so quiet. Yet only a few minutes drive into Matamata for cafés etc. Good base to visit Hobbiton too. The homemade muffins were a really welcome treat and Sandy and Gordon were perfect hosts.

  • Our stay at Quinlan Cottage was exactly as described and maybe even better! We arrived about an hour or so earlier than expected, but Sandy left perfect instructions on what to do when we got there and to go ahead and make ourselves at home in the cottage, in case they were out. She was not there when we arrived but was back to greet us not long after. She provided us with all the information and things we might need for our two night stay. Both Gordon and Sandy were absolutely wonderful and we felt very welcomed. They were very friendly and provided us with lots of information on things to do in the area. The cottage is on their beautiful property and it is absolutely idyllic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Matamata area, especially because of this wonderful accommodation. We would definitely stay here again and we highly recommend it.

  • This is a lovely quiet spot to be in. The cottage is neat and compact. The hosts were friendly when approached. Gordon was helpful with some directions. Fruit and two fresh muffins were available on arrival. Breakfast is available on request. It is not included in the tariff. If you have specific dietary needs there are more options in town for lunch than dinner.

    Response from Gordon & Sandy:

Thanks for the suggestion Marion. I will see if I can find something not so fragrant for the toilet.

  • Our stay at the Quinlan cottage was impeccable. Gordon and Sandy were really hospitable, warm and helpful. We managed to have a go at feeding the sheep and it was an awesome experience. The cottage itself is pretty, clean and has pretty much everything you might need. We really loved the fact that the bed had a built in heater and that was really helpful. The cottage is located at a perfect location close to Matamata, just a 5 mins drive away and serves as a convenient location for visits to hobbiton. The muffins that Sandy baked and left in the room were really delicious!! Eben the Labrador retriever is super friendly and absolutely adorable. The location is also perfect for stargazing. We really enjoyed the stay at the cottage and the only regret we have is not being able to stay for at more nights!

  • Sandy and Gordon are a lovely couple and they made us feel very welcome from day one. They cared very well for us whilst giving us a lot of privacy. Sandy made sure we had fresh muffins and fruit every day and we were welcome to use their kitchen. The cottage is beautiful and we had everything we needed. Their two Labradors are friendly and sweet natured and we had a lot of fun with them. We also much enjoyed feeding their cute sheep. We hope we can come back some day and recommend Sandy and Gordon’s cottage to everyone who wants to visit the area, which is well worth exploring.
