The Space

Angie and I are both retired military. Our family got to sample lodging across the U.S. & in several countries. When we started the Acorn Cottage we wanted to provide travelers with something more like a home instead of a furnished box. In other words, somewhere that WE’D want to stay!

  • My husband and I did not get to meet Angie (as she was away), but Rick was a very welcoming, hospitable and very helpful host. This listing was very accurately described and we were excited to stay in such a warm and inviting place. The Kenwood Historic District is centrally located between downtown St. Petersburg and St. Pete beach. It was only a 10 minute drive in either direction. Our 10 year old son attended an academic camp at Eckard College (also a 12 minute drive) from the Acorn Cottage whilst we relaxed, took craft beer tours, frolicked on the beach, experienced the Dali museum etc. My phone charger broke and Rick was gracious enough to accept a package from Amazon for me to replace it. The apartment was clean, food was stocked in the fridge for breakfast and Rick even offered a place for us to do laundry if needed. Rick was always helpful with clarifying any trolley or tourist-like questions we had. Parking was conveniently located just outside so we did not have a long schlep with our suitcases. We will definitely be back to stay at The Acorn Cottage next year!! Hopefully we will be able to meet Angie next time!

  • Rick and Angie's cottage was lovely-- very comfortable and tastefully decorated, with everything one might need to enjoy a vacation, including several guides that detailed information about places of interest in the area. (Our hosts even left a supply of fresh eggs from their chickens in the fridge!) While we didn't meet Angie, Rick was very helpful. The cottage is located within walking distance of several shops and eateries. All in all, we had a lovely stay!

  • We spent 2 nights at the Acorn Cottage. It was short but very nice. The flat is very comfortable, well equipped and very clean. We immediately felt at home.
Angie was absent but Rick was very friendly and full of good advice.
It was a very pleasant stay. We suggest you make a stop at the Cottage.

  • The place was clean, cozy and quiet. It was easy to find and centrally located. Our hosts were thoughtful, helpful, considerate, and friendly. The beds were comfortable, and roomy. We highly recommend this space to any travelers in need of cozy, comfy accommodations.

The decor was fun and creative. We look forward to returning soon.

  • Our stay in the Acorn Cottage was short and sweet. Rick and Angie were both very friendly and accommodating. I wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Another lovely stay at Rick and Angie's place (this is my third). As usual, they were so welcoming and friendly. They usually try to leave some snacks for guests, but last time I mentioned that I love the new juice bar in the neighborhood (Squeeze), so they got me a gift card to get myself a juice. So sweet! If you're visiting St. Pete, this is the place to stay.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Rick and Angie's! We only wish we'd been staying longer. We were there two nights. The apartment is such a nice space to be in. It really just makes you smile. It has been very uniquely and creatively decorated.

The beds were comfortable and everything you might need was provided. The black out curtains in the bedrooms were a plus and the AC and WiFi worked great. The books and magazines were a great touch and really appreciated.

We only spoke briefly with Rick and Angie, but it only took me about five seconds to know I liked them. Rick helped us with our luggage and showed us around; he was very gregarious and helpful. Angie was a very warm person.

The location was fantastic, right near Central and the freeway system. I highly recommend them!

  • We spent such a delightful week in St.Pete at the Acorn Cottage! The cottage is charming and comfortable and clean. We enjoyed cooking several meals and found the kitchen to be well stocked, including some eggs from the friendly chickens downstairs! The bed is comfortable and the shower is great- two things very important to us when traveling.

Rick is a delight and we enjoyed getting to know him. He is very responsive and helpful. Sadly, we did not get to meet Angie as she was traveling but very much look forward to meeting her on our next trip to St. Pete. This was our first Airbnb experience and if all the others we have scheduled live up to this, we will be happy indeed. Highly recommend!

  • Angie was out of town but Rick provided more than enough hospitality. The acorn cottage was cozy and clean outfitted with handmade blankets and refinished furniture. Rick was nice enough to leave us breakfast food for the mornings. Such a nice touch. Rick even gave us eggs from his chickens! Even though Florida was not as kind to us (the weather was so rainy!) our stay was really peaceful mostly because our lodging was so welcoming. The Dali museum and restaurants in St. Pete were a quick 7-15 car ride from the cottage. Super convenient. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in St. Petersburg.

  • The Acorn Cottage was a home away from home. It was a great place to unwind after a hectic week and a good base for all of the activities that we like to do in St. Pete. The place itself is well laid out with cute, eclectic decor. It was clean and bright. The fully stocked pantry was a pleasant surprise, as were the fresh eggs! Rick and Angie were warm, hospitable, accommodating and friendly. Perfect hosts. We will definitely stay again!

We were both career USAF and are now self-employed and semi-retired. Our daughter is active duty US Army. Angie lived less than a mile from here during high school and college before she entered the USAF. She knows the area very well and gives great directions!. She does fabric art, slipcovers for furniture, screen printing and other activities that are enjoyable and sometimes profitable. I am one of many independent consultants who work from home for a firm that deals with internet trends and marketing. I also do some woodworking and crafting and sell some of it on the internet. That's my enjoyable and sometimes profitable contribution to the budget. We both have a variety of interests and there is normally one or more on-going projects around our house. It's normal to see us covered with things like thread, sawdust or paint. After the USAF we both did some work in the Home Décor industry as custom fabricators, so we have some interesting skill sets."
