A enchanting villa, situated in a complex so called "SUK" in a cliff-top position overlooking one of the most beautiful bays in the world: Isola Bella. Couple miles away is the stunning town of Taormina, the "Pearl of the Mediterranean”.
The so called SUK is a luxury condominium. The villa is on three levels: enter the front door to the main living area and access to the garden. Off this living area is a small but fully equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, cooker, oven, kettle, toaster, etc). Some spiral stairs take you to the first floor which is home to one double bedrooms with two twin beds and a bathroom with shower. A couple of steps lead up to a separate unit with a second double bedroom with queen size bed and en-suite bathroom (with shower), and to a small roof terrace with sun all day long. Thanks to its peculiar setting (the complex is entirely built against the rock), the villa is extremely cool even though all rooms have air conditioning.
The garden/terrace is ideal for those seeking peace and privacy while enjoying one of the most amazing view: the Isola Bella bay and the vastness of its the blue sea.
Guests will enjoy the saltwater pool (open from mid-May to mid-October) with its views. Moreover, an elevator takes you down through 50m of solid rock to a private rocky shore where you can sunbath or swim in the emerald blue-green waters, while the crystal clear waters of the surrounding grottoes provide ideal conditions for snorkelling and scuba diving. Although the private beach and pool can get quite busy in July and August, they remain extremely quiet during other periods.
At your arrival, Angela and Rosetta will welcome you.
A couple of miles away from the villa is the stunning town of Taormina, the "Pearl of the Mediterranean”, easily reachable by bus, taxis or with the help of a panoramic cable car located 15 minutes walk away (this takes you in the centre of Taormina in a couple of minutes).
Idyllically perched on a rocky promontory high above the sea with Mount Etna brooding in the background, its location is a collage of mountains, azure seas and dramatic cliffs topped by a stunning Greco-Roman amphitheatre dating back to the 3rd century BC (see right picture).
Taormina is like a treasure chest of history: walking along its main traffic-free street, Corso Umberto, and the maze of narrow streets and small beautiful squares, you will find theatres and gymnasiums from the Greek age, Odeon and baths from the Roman age, stunning buildings in which the Arab and the Norman cultures melt together in a memorable sense of beauty. Small shops selling local crafts, designer boutiques, romantic candlelit bars and sparkling restaurants, tucked away among the medieval streets of the old town, add to Taormina's charm. And if you're lucky enough to coincide your visit with the Taormina Art Festival, you'll be treated to a fantastic programme of international music, theatre, art, opera, dance and film.
Taormina can be quite hot and busy during July and August, crowded with Italian tourists, it is far more pleasant and less busy during the rest of the year.
Taormina is ideally located to reach, with daily excursions, most parts of Sicily including Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano and home to many outdoor activities, the splendid Aeolian Islands (UNESCO World Heritage site), the late baroque towns of the Val di Noto (Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo Acreide, Ragusa and Scicli, all UNESCO WH sites), Siracusa and its historical centre Ortigia (UNESCO WH site), Villa Romana del Casale with its mosaics (UNESCO WH site), Agrigento with its Greek temples (UNESCO WH site)… thousands of years of history in one island!
For those who enjoy playing golf: the “Picciolo Golf Club' is 30km away from the property and offers the opportunity to play golf in a spectacular location (the slopes of Mount Etna volcano) without the crowds, slow play and high green fees that are typical of many of the more established golfing destinations elsewhere in Europe. With breathtaking and scenic views for all 18 holes, set among among lava flows, oaks, hazels and vineyards.
Nice apartment! Nice location! Nice landlords! Very enjoy the Rome time!
This was our first Airbnb experience, so I was a bit nervous. We arrived late at night and were a bit apprehensive about the neighborhood at first glance (looking through American eyes). After walking around the neighborhood we felt completely safe. Both the accommodations and location were perfect. Steps from the metro, walking distance from the Coliseum made getting Rome easy and convenient. The apartment was perfect for 2 couples or families. The kitchen was completely stocked for breakfast. Aldea was a wonderful hostess/concierge helping us with all of our questions. Should we ever travel back to Rome, I would definitely try to stay with Aldea and Alessandro.
Thank you, Aldea, for a wonderful stay. My brother, Jon, and I felt very much at home. The kitchen was generously filled with breakfast, drinks & snacks. Your instructions for the grocery store helped us buy lovely ingredients which we cooked in your well stocked kitchen. Ease of access to Termini, the Metro and several major Roman landmarks met all our "tourist" needs.
We will think of this as our Rome home.
We loved our stay at Aldea's apartment. The apartment is well equipped, clean and very comfortable. Its location is also very convenient. We did not have the chance to meet Aldea since she was traveling but we met with Alessandro. He was very knowledgable on where to eat/what to see/how to get there. He was also very friendly and immediately made us feel at home. We will try to stay there again on our next trip to Rome. Highly recommended!
I totally confirm the very positive feedback of other reviewers. I would only add that you don't have the feeling of staying in a cold impersonal apartment for rent but in a flat just left by good friends and lent to us, due to the warmth and atmosphere given by the sensitivity of the owners. Thanks Mrs. Aldea and Mr. Alessandro.
Aldea was a great hostess and the appartment was clean, spacious, quiet, and centrally located with easy access to the subway and easy walking to most of the sights in Rome. She is very friendly and it was a pleasure to stay there. Highly recommended!
The house is very centrally located and just in front of the metro!
It is a very clean apartment and well kept.
Aldea is a very nice host who had kept some things to eat and drink for us for our arrival and to make us comfortable.
Highly recommended since it is a very nice place!
It has been a great experience being at Aldea's appartment. The appartment could not be better for a family, within walking distance from the most important monuments. In the surrounding area anything needed could be found and the metro station is in front of the main door. What else could we ask for?? It has been a pleasure to deal with Aldea and Alesssandro, always willing to help. We would recommend anyone to stay with them. Thank you!
Aldea has been a pleasure to deal with from the outset. Wow a wonderful place exceeded our expectation, combined with very genuine warm people. Outstanding thank you.
