Christa is a lovely host! She makes sure you're comfortable and well-cared for. She gives good ideas on where to go and is kind to give me a ride from and back to the shuttle bus station, and also from the city center if you need to get home late. Her apartment is lovely and the room is perfect. It was nice to have a private room with a comfortable bed to come back to. Breakfast is also well-prepared with coffee, yogurt and granola, toast and pastries. Aix En Provence is beautiful anytime of the year. I have to revisit when I can see the lavender fields. Thanks Christa!! Take care!
Christa is a magnificent hostess and her apartment is to die for - gorgeous and bright with a great big sun-drenched balcony covered with beautiful plants and flowers, The small bedroom is clean and simple with a small dresser and desk and the most comfortable single bed I've ever slept on. Christa even provided a few clean towels and chocolates on the pillow at check-in! Breakfast on the balcony was an attraction in itself; Christa prepared a charming. classic french breakfast of fresh coffee, fruit, yogurt, and yummy fresh bread with butter and jam ( I honestly have no idea what the last reviewer was talking about!) plus very, very good conversation with a kind and knowledgeable woman :) Christa was kind enough to pick me up and drop me off at the train station with my enormous suitcase and was incredibly gracious and accommodating every step of the way. The bus to Aix and in the other direction Le Tholonet is just steps away from the apartment if you're staying without a car; there's also a pharmacy, tabac, and grocery in the same complex. Can't beat it. THANK YOU, CHRISTA! See you in New York ;)
Christa seemed very nice, but my trip did not end well. I am therefore able to give a review that is not colored by the combination of personal interaction and lack of anonymity which probably makes most reviewers more generous that they otherwise would be.
So first, if the point of staying with a local is to get some good advice about where to go, then you might as well visit the tourist office in Aix, conveniently located in the center of town. The people are very helpful, and they have tons of english-language brochures. These are what Christa provided. Second, if you're looking for cheapness and homey comfort, I would recommend a hotel. There are *tons* of hotels in and around Aix for every budget (I saw them on the rather long bus ride from Christa's apartment into town), and I'm willing to bet that at a hotel, the doors would have locks, and the bathroom would have shower curtains rather than just a tub with a full-length mirror on the opposite wall. I found this set-up to be quite creepy. Third, though breakfast came with fresh espresso and a nice assortment of jams, honey, and butter, the staples were stale-ish breads and very stale cocoa puffs-like cereal. You'd be better off walking into any bakery - and they are everywhere - and buying yourself a fresh loaf of bread or a pastry for 1 or 2 euros.
About the end: I had to leave a few days early to help out a friend. (I stayed for 3 out of the 7 nights that I had booked; I was doing a combo of tourism and research.) It was not a medical emergency, but since Christa had given me multiple lectures about how Americans are too materialistic and that really, money is not so important for a good life, I figured she would understand. She did not allow me to "check out" early however - she would not give me a refund of any kind - and I thought that this was unfair. Thus, the unhappy ending and the very honest review.
Staying with Christa was a pleasure. She is such a kindhearted woman, and while we were there, she went out of her way to pick us up from the bus terminal and take us back extremely early the day we left. One night, she even picked us up from the center of town after the buses stopped running. She was so generous.
We loved eating breakfast, relaxing, and conversing with her on her beautiful terrace. And each morning, she provided maps and directions to where we wanted to go in Aix and the surrounding areas, as well as an informative guidebook. We greatly enjoyed Aix and following the "steps of Cezanne," as well as trying to find all of the fountains throughout the city. She also suggested that we visit the port town of Cassis, and we are glad to have done so. The whole area is stunning and full of history. :)
The room was small, but not cramped, and the bathroom shower was nice and hot. Christa provided clean towels and linens, as well as fresh water.
Thank you for being such a wonderful host, Christa! We are very thankful to have met someone so kind. :)

About the person: Christa is an amazing host, easy-going, considerate, willing to help. I took overnight train from Bordeaux to Aix En Provence and my train delayed for 3 hours. However, Christa was always there to wait an help me! Upon my arrival, Christa come downstairs to pic me up and prepared the lovely room :)
About the place: The apartment is exactly like what is shown in the picture. You will enjoy a private bedroom with 2 single matresses on the floor but it is very comfortable - believe me, i am normally a picky person :P You will share the toilet, bathroom, living room, kitchen and a lovely balcony with Christa.
About the locaion: it is not downtown but only 20 mins bus ride at 1 euro per person per trip. Quiet and typical south France town with mountain view.
Overall i highly reccomend this place.
Christa is such a wonderful host. She had great advice to offer on local excusions and what to do and see in the area. My brother and I only had a short time in Provence and every minute was well spent thanks to Christa's great advice. Her apartment is cozy and charming and the bedroom is very comfortable. She provided a delicious and beautiful breakfast spread each morning on the terrace, so lovely! Stay with Christa! :)
I had the most wonderful time staying with Christa! She was so kind and thoughtful: picking me up from the bus station and driving back to her flat, researching and dropping me off at the correct bus to go to Marseilles, providing information about the surrounding area and tips about sites to see, always offering to pick me up when the buses stopped running, and much more. I greatly enjoyed going for a walk with Christa and having many discussions with her that provided me with insight to the local culture of Aix-en-Provence and a friend who I hope to see again! I delighted in having the loveliest breakfast with her each morning on her terrace and the occasional dinner as well. I would highly recommend staying with Christa for anyone who desires more warmth than a sterile hotel and engaging with local people.
