This family friendly, arts & crafts style cottage borders a 600 acre nature preserve & features amazing panoramic mountain views from nearly every window. Located 5 miles from historic Black Mountain & 15 miles from downtown Asheville. The cottage is the perfect getaway for those that love solitude and nature, but also want to be close to all the activities of town. Find us on IG @grandview.cottage

The space
The 1,900 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 3 bath house was recently remodeled and has all new furnishings. The property has beautiful long range views of the Black Mountains, including Craggy Pinnacle, Mt. Mitchell, and Grandfather Mountain. The well-stocked mountain cottage is located in a gravel road neighborhood 5 miles from historic Black Mountain (including Ingles grocery store and interstate 40), and 15 miles from Asheville. It's the perfect getaway for those that love nature, but also want to be close to coffee shops, dining, shopping, and all the activities of town.

The cozy house is flooded with natural light, and features an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, gas fireplace, hardwood floors, tile baths, and custom woodwork throughout.

The fully equipped custom kitchen has everything needed for cooking and entertaining including an electric range & oven, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, french press, toaster, blender, crockpot and more. We've stocked the basics such as dish soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, common spices & condiments, sugar, coffee & tea - as well as basic toiletries, in case you forgot yours, like shampoo, soap, shaving cream and razors.

The house has two living rooms, one on the main floor and one on the garden level, allowing plenty of space for friends and family to spread out. Each living room is equipped with a 40" flatscreen TV, DirecTV, DVD player (upstairs), Roku (downstairs) and WiFi.

The large deck off the main living area gives you a front row view of the awe inspiring mountain scenery. The deck is equipped with a gas grill, a table and 4 chairs, as well as 2 custom timber chairs.

The three bathrooms (2 on the main floor, and 1 downstairs) are stocked with towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and basic toiletry items.

On the main level:
Powder room, kitchen, living room, french doors leading to the deck, master bed & bath.

The Master bedroom, has a brand new Queen sized bed, spacious walk-in closet, custom built-ins, and a private bathroom with soaking tub, and a skylight.

Downstairs:
A spacious light-filled living room with two walk-out doors leading to the back yard, two bedrooms - one with a Queen bed & one with 2 Twin beds (which can be converted to a King - Just ask in advance!) bathroom, and full capacity laundry room.

We offer a toddler floor bed, and a pack-n-play crib as well. If you'd like for these to be set up, just let us know, and we'll have them made and ready for you in the room of your choice.

The house is heated with a combination of gas and electric. In the summer we have two window AC units - one in the Master bedroom and one in the main upstairs living space as well as several fans that can be moved around with ease. With the elevation of 3,400 ft we highly recommend sleeping with the windows open so you can hear the hum of the katydids and cicadas and feel the refreshing cool mountain breeze. The gas fireplace is disabled from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

We provide an ample selection of children's books, games, puzzles, novels, local guidebooks, hiking & biking trail information, and family friendly DVDs.

Other things to note
This is black bear country. Our forest is full of wildlife including deer, coyotes and black bear. Although the bears are not aggressive, and usually run away when they see humans, please use common sense and give bears a safe distance. Do not try to approach them for photographs and please, please, please do not leave out food, or garbage, and do not leave food in your vehicle. Place all trash in locked shed. We hope you enjoy our wild neighbors!

The house is 1.7 miles up a gravel road. The road, which can sometimes be a bit rough, is accessible to any type vehicle, (sedans, minivans and everything in between) but expect some bumps as you make your way up the hill. In the event of a snow or ice storm, the road is usually cleared in the morning, and throughout the day. A snow shovel and ice melt are provided at the house for your use as well.

The road is a private and self-governing road, and speeding will not be tolerated. Please observe posted speed limit signs in our neighborhood and drive slowly. Our close-knit community is full of hikers, runners, dog walkers, and mountain bikers that enjoy using the road for recreation. There are many blind corners that are dangerous if one speeds. If you stay in 2nd gear the whole way up and down the mountain, we and the neighbors will happily welcome you back. Drive like your kids live here.

While we are definitely off the beaten path and somewhat secluded, we do have neighbors. Thank you in advance for being courteous guests and maintaining quiet hours between 10pm-8am.

I'm an artist and homeschooling mother. My days are spent learning about the natural world with the kids, exploring trails, tending to our flock of chickens, ducks, honeybee hives, and growing and preserving as much of our own food as we can. My husband and I have travelled extensively, within the U.S. and abroad, and have a good idea of what it takes to make a vacation home comfortable. We strive to provide you with a comfortable and peaceful setting, stocked with all the amenities you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation. We have grown to love the peacefulness of this sweet house, and are excited to share it with you!
