I am bordering the jungle rain forest and a path way for many is right next to my home! Dale was an amazing host, the directions to her place were accurate and when we arrived the place was exactly as pictured and described. We really loved our stay at this beautiful home. Our Casita was well appointed and private.
We absolutely loved the jungle noises and had no issues sleeping. The howler monkeys will have you up bright and early so if you want to sleep in, bring some ear plugs. We enjoyed this experience and are early risers so this was not an issue for us.
The house is in a perfect location for touring the many beaches and restaurants in the area.
We are animal lovers and we found Dale's pets to be lovely gentle animals. They are not allowed in your room, you can usually find them just lounging around in the main house.
Dale is also very knowledgeable about things to do and see, as well as providing great recommendations for places to eat.
We would highly recommend staying at this lovely home if you are visiting this area of Costa Rica.
Dale's was every bit as lovely as the pictures! The interior was very nicely decorated, all of high quality, and there were comfortable places to relax in the common area. The exterior was lush foliage with a beautiful pool and a view of the ocean! We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed it all. Dale suggested tours and dinner locations - all to our liking. We would definitely return here.
Really enjoyed meeting the two of you and hope you will return, I am taking the suggestion for more lighting by the stairs to heart, going to San Jose today to look for something there,I have not been able to find the right set up here locally. Thank you for your suggestion!
We had a great time at Dale's! Casa tranquila is a great villa with a nice room separate from the beautiful house. The house has got a beautiful pool and stunning view through the jungle and over the pacific ocean. It's like sleeping in the middle of the jungle. We even saw some monkeys in her garden! We planned on staying for 2 nights, but ended spending 4 days.
Dale is a great host. The welcome with a glass of wine was very warm and we felt at home immediately! We enjoyed spending some time with her and she had good recommandations about where to go for diner, lunch or tours. One night she made dinner for us in her home and it was delicious! She also has three wonderful dogs and two cats. So if you like animals, you are in the right place!
If we ever go back to Costa Rica we would love to spend a couple of days with Dale again.
Casa Tranquila was better than we even expected! Dale was extremely personable and welcoming. We caught fish on an excursion the day we arrived. Her kitchen held all the tools necessary to make a meal of the fresh fish. Our favorite part of our experience at Casa Tranquila was that we felt completely immersed in nature but were still very comfortable. Toucans gather in the trees surrounding the property and howler monkeys visit often, too. Dale also gave some really wonderful recommendations for excursions and places to visit. The Nauyaca Waterfall and snorkeling excusion to Isla Canos with Perla del Sur are both musts! The sunset at El Castillo is magical. Thank you, Dale, for a lovely stay!
All the reviews about Casa Tranquila and the photos made it sound almost too good to be true. In reality is its better. Dale & Sean are great host's who offer as much assistance as you want but let you have your privacy to enjoy your vacation as well. The property is absolutely amazing. You are a short distance from the main road but far enough in the jungle to feel miles away. We went to bed and woke up to sounds of howler monkeys. Jan made reservations for us on zip lining and surfing. Recommended great restaurants and talked about her experiences living there. We would go back tomorrow if we could. Don't miss staying here.
My gilrfrined and I had a wonderful experience at Dale's place. Casa Tranquila is absolutely beautiful! It feels like being in the middle of the jungle but is easily accessible and very comfortable. This is a great place if you want to relax. There are also plenty of opportunities for activities nearby. Dale and Sean are great hosts!!! It was nice to share the house with them and have a chat in the evening. They were very helpful with recommendations and organizing activities in the area. We would love to come back!
My girlfriend and I were very pleased with our experience in Costa Rica and especially with our decision to stay at Casa Tranquila. Dale and Sean (spelling...) were very nice and very willing to offer advice on places to visit and the easiest way of navigating around Costa Rica. Getting out of San Juan can be a pain as there are few road signs and plenty of side streets that lead to nowhere. (**make sure your phone is GSM capable or you have a very current – within 1 year – GPS & maps**) With that said, the drive along the Pacific coast was absolutely beautiful and quite relaxing (4-5 hour total drive). The local market is 5 minutes away from Dale's house, and we often found ourselves picking up food and cooking back at the house. Hint.. The local market takes credit cards, but the employees do not comprehend English. Any fruit you pick up in the store is tagged in the fruit isle.. not at the checkout.
Make sure you ask Dale/Sean about the “catch your own” tilapia restaurant and Playa Ventanas. These locations, amongst others, were recommended to us during our stay and were well worth the time to see. The snorkeling tour service recommended was excellent as well. We traveled out to a small island north of Isla del Cano (may have the name wrong here..) and snorkeled for a couple hours, stopped by Isla del Cano for lunch, and then headed back through the mangroves…. It was worth money. The “El Castillo” hotel overlooking the river and cost line of Ojochal was absolutely beautiful, especially if you can catch it during a sunset.
As for the accommodations at Casa Tranquila, the room was nice and clean and did a pretty good job of keeping the bugs out. The geckos love the wall by the door as the light attracts bugs for them to eat. We did encounter a baby scorpion but just ended up sweeping it out with the broom. Even though it reaches 90+ degrees, the room stayed relatively cool. There were many mornings that we would hear the howler monkeys moving along the tree line, and we would track them up the path to get a better view. During the day, the pool was a common hangout place in addition to the hammocks that hang between the outside supports of the house. The animals were very friendly, especially the cat that drools on you while being petted, lol.
The Casa Tranquila was an ideal place to experience the natural beauty of Costa Rica; yet, be comfortable and safe. This was the first time my girlfriend and I have been out of the country, and we didn’t know what to expect. This was a safe environment that allowed us to relax and experience something new. I would highly recommend staying with Dale and Sean at the Casa Tranquila.
I am bless with living in one of the most diverse ecological parts of the world, surrounded by tropical rainforest, filled with wildlife and beauty. In front of me is the Ballena National Marine Park, so jungle, mountain and ocean abounds. The perfect place to get back in touch with yourself and nature. It is my joy to be able to share this with others. I have been living here around 11 years, love it and know how to enjoy it and appreciate being able to show others. I love making people feel welcome and special and enjoy meeting new friends that come my way. My motto is Love Life.
