Great location

This 2 story home is too much space for us, so we chose to turn the 2nd floor over to Airbnb; This is an affordable way for folks to visit Chicago and for us to meet interesting people. Edgewater is a beautiful, quiet, safe northside neighborhood with beaches, theaters, grocery, shopping, restaurants, lake access, bike paths, and Loyola University. Heading downtown? The CTA Red Line is just a 7 minute walk. Be downtown in 40 minutes. Have a car? Street parking is always available.

The space
This is our home and we take our responsibility to you seriously. Your accommodations will always be clean, quiet, and comfortable. The entire apartment has fresh paint and new mattresses. I have two queen-sized rooms listed on Airbnb, so please be aware that there may be up to4 guests sharing this space on any given night. This is a 2nd floor apartment, so stairs are involved. If you require assistance with luggage, please let us know. We are happy to help. I work throughout the neighborhood, have a flexible schedule and am usually no more than 10 minutes from home if any problems or needs arise during your stay. Allergy sufferers or those phobic of dogs, please note that we have an adopted Italian Mastiff named Storm. He's big (120+ lbs) and while he may look intimidating, he's very shy around guests, very quiet, and non-aggressive.

Guest access
You have shared access to the entire apartment, including Wi-Fi, kitchen, bathroom, dining room, living room, laundry room, yard and hot tub.. Kitchen access includes use of the refrigerator, microwave, Keurig, toaster, cookware and dishes. Guests provide their own food. Bathroom access includes shower, toilet, sink, towels, iron, ironing board and hairdryer. Dining room access includes a dining table that can seat four. Living room access includes two couches, basic cable television Netflix and YouTube. Laundry room access includes one washer and one dryer. Yard access includes outside seating, garden and hot tub.

Other things to note
One of us is always there to greet you and orient you to the space. If you have any special needs, please advise me in advance so I have ample time to make those accomodations. If you will have a car, please advise me in advance so I can have a sufficient number of City of Chicago parking permits available upon arrival.

Location

Edgewater, Chicago, Illinois

Edgewater has been a great neighborhood for us. So many of the things that guests and ourselves want access to are located right here - restaurants, grocery stores, specialty shops, arts, entertainment, beaches, transportation - all located along a few major streets. You get a safe, quiet, peaceful place to stay within walking distance of all these things, but without the crowded sidewalks. You can visit all of the downtown museums, galleries, stores, restaurants, beaches, and bike trails by taking a 30 minute ride on the Red LIne train while avoiding the expense and hassle of downtown parking.

In 2015, I hit the reset button on my life; or maybe it was life's hand on the button. I was in the 26th year of a high paying but dissatisfying job that I was afraid to leave. I was in the 25th year of a mutually unhappy relationship to which I felt some moral obligation to stay. I had few friends. little energy and few interests outside of work. In retrospect, I was depressed. First, she found someone new. Then, I was let go due to budget cuts. Although that year was filled with uncertainty, all of the sudden I felt so much lighter. My previously miserable existence was not brimming with opportunities (the opportunities had been there, I had just grown to not recognize them). My mantra became a sort of "why not". I gave up my car, most of my possessions. and moved to the home of a friend in Chicago. I had a hobby rock and mineral shop located in The Chicago Mosaic School. I started spending long hours there every day. I started becoming helpful... cleaning up, organizing, locating materials, running errands. Soon the school hired me on as their Operations Officer. I started becoming sociable too...accepting and extending invitations to dinner, concerts, movies, evenings spent just hanging out. Soon I had more friends than I'd known in the last 25 years. Good friends. The kind who will speak to your face the same way they speak of you when you are not present. Now, thanks to one of those friends, I am in this fantastic apartment, close to The Chicago Mosaic School. I'm back to doing the things I enjoy... listening to alternative music, rock and fossil collecting, camping, bird watching, gardening, and spending quality time with those friends. Many of my guests are friends and artists who come to Chicago throughout the year in order to take classes at The Chicago Mosaic School. I enjoy hosting them and spending entertaining evenings together. In a world made up of so much conflict and competition, I personally find it very encouraging to see people of different ages, genders, education, vocation and experience come together cooperatively under one roof and connect with one another for an evening or a few days. I hope everyone who elects to stay here departs with a smile.

During your stay
This is our home, so we are available most any hour. We welcome your company, but also respect your privacy. We want your stay to be comfortable for both of us, so we openly invite you to let us know how much interaction you prefer. We rent out two of the three rooms on this 2nd floor. During the summer, almost always both rooms are full, but it is amazing to us just how well everyone gets along from places all around the world.
