About This Listing
One mile south of Kailua-Kona on Alii Drive, Alii Villas is a beautiful oceanfront complex with tropical landscaping, a large freshwater pool, and a patio area perfect for barbecuing or sunbathing. Black-and-white spinner dolphins and green sea turtles are frequent visitors to the bay just north of the complex, and bright reef fish school in the little coves and beaches nearby.
A short, pretty drive south leads to the best surfing, snorkeling, and diving areas in the Hawaiian islands; a trip north through 19th century lava flows takes you to dozens of peaceful white-sand beaches lined with palm and kiawe trees. Inland—a longer drive, but well worth the trip—is Kilauea, the Big Island’s active volcano, and the weird extraterrestrial landscape of Volcanoes National Park. To see the whole beautiful island and travel easily from one great beach to another, we recommend you rent a car at the airport.

The place was great, located on the main strip, Ali'i drive, yet just on the periphery of the action. There were many amenities - the most appreciated were towels, washer/dryer after snorkeling, and the great community! We spent a day by the pool and got to know the long-time residents and their families who were welcoming and extremely helpful. Our last day, the daughter of a resident brought us banana bread from the local market because we didn't have time to stop by before we packed up. We had breakfast on the lanai each morning and enjoyed Kona's bustling main strip, then retreated to the listing where there was peace and quiet. I recommend this listing if you like being close (walking distance) to the action but enjoy your downtime and meeting new people. Great community, great location!
Eric did a great job of hosting. Very helpful email prior to our stay with all the details we needed and some hints about life in Kona.
The apartment was perfect for a couple, and cozy and comfortable.
The next door neighbors were quite friendly and we would exchange nice words every day or so while coming/going.
The only draw back to this place is that you and your neighbors most likely leave the windows or doors open at night, so you can hear them and they can hear you. But the place has a quiet after 10pm policy so it's not really that big of a deal - and the other tenants were pretty quiet.
There's a beautiful view of the ocean at the back of the complex and there are grills for barbecuing. Recommend going to the Bite Me Fish Market at the harbor and grilling some Ahi!
If you're eager for some coffee or a light snack in the morning, there's a little cafe about a two minute walk from the complex.
Also, Da Poke Shack (Yelp #1 Restaurant for 2014) is only about a 15min walk from the complex as well and definitely worth checking out.
The condo was very clean and very convenient! It's location is ideal-- walking distance to shops, food, and beaches! Beautiful scenery just right behind you- we were able to watch the sunset at the shoreline. Although you can hear your neighbors during the day (which we didn't mind because we were gone most of the time), the neighbors were very friendly! The only thing that I must say is that the bed is old and noisy, and the sheets smelled a little funky like they didn't dry properly after washing. Other than that, I'd definitely come back again!
Eric did everything he could to accommodate us. He replied quickly and was flexible with check in/check out arrangements. The condo is an easy walk into the centre of Kona. It was clean and tidy with all modern amenities. I will definitely stay here next time I am in Kona!
The Alii villa condo is a perfect place for a family. Its got everything you need much like staying in your own home. Love that we could do our own laundry while we prep for the days activity. Eric was very accommodating, letting us know everything we need to know plus providing the best book to learn more about the big island. Would definitely stay in alii villa when given the chance.
We had a pleasant stay of one night, the place was clean, the neighborhood quiet and everything as expected. No problems during arrival.
Perfectly located an easy walk from all the attractions of Kailua Kona, the condo works perfectly as a "base of operations" and has all the facilities you might need.
The only (very minor) criticism would be that the place could to with a little TLC … as would, I'm sure, any property that is well-used by holidaymakers.
In summary, if you're looking for convenience and good location to explore the Kona side of Big Island but don't need anything fancy this is perfect.
