  • We spent 3 nights at this convenient and amazing place. This property locates at really nice shoreline place and you can easy reach restaurants and downtown kona. This host - Bill has flexible late checking in for the vistors, and the place is quite specious with the kitchen, dinning place, bathroom and the bedroom. The only thing you might consider is the sounds from the second floor while people are walking, because this property locates at the ground floor.
I do recommend this place and the host to everyone who's eager to explore big island! MAHALO!

  • It was nice and the owner is very flexible. My ironmate and I were changing days of flights and had to arrive a couple of days eary and had to leave a couple of days late. Bill was really nice and offered as a great deal on his other appartment in this house, which was also really nice. Definately a must when staying in Hawaii :)

  • Got double booked, Horrible communication by owner, had to stay at a hotel.

  • The room is nice and clean. Hosts are very kindly and helpful.
The ocean changes its color hours by hours. so beautiful.

  • The only good thing I can say was that it was clean (thanks, Joseph). But that's it.

Let me start with the place itself, promoted under the nifty tag-line 'Hear the ocean roar'. The reality was somewhat different. Hear the ocean roar? I don't think so, given that it was a concrete box set back 10 - 15 meters inside the carport (something omitted from the pictures provided) and accessed by a small front door.

And inside? Tired is being kind. Damaged vertical blinds, some missing and some mended with duct tape, old and mismatched towels (one more a hand than a bath towel) a bedside cabinet with a hole smashed in it, cracked floor tiles, the blades of the ceiling fans filthy, the fridge so iced-up it barely worked, and old furniture with old cushions. Talking of furniture, the couch was so disgusting - it was greasy to the touch, threadbare, and the stuffing was coming out - my wife refused to sit on it. It's a health hazard and belongs in landfill.

And the airconditioner was long past its use-by date. It was so noisy (I think the fan bearings are shot) you couldn't use it, not that you would as it was so small it struggled to have any effect. We did try one hot day, but somebody clearly did not approve and came in while we were out and turned it off. I was an uncomfortable feeling to have your privacy invaded like that. To keep the place cool, you had to open up the front door and sliding door to the lanai to get the air flowing through, which would have been OK were it not for the fact that you looked out onto the carport, complete with cars adding their smells of hot engines along with the washer, dryer, and garbage bins. It was sooooo classy.

And there was no privacy. Other guests came and went out front, some walking their dogs down the side past the fabulous lanai (a slab of concrete with plastic fencing, its ocean glimpse overwhelmed by the two houses next door) to do their business, which was a nice touch we thought.

All in all, it sucked. God knows where some of the other reviewers stayed. This was my first and last Airbnb experience. Never again.

  • Located right on the shore in between two great beaches just south of Kona. Nice sized place with room to stretch. Not fancy, but cute.

  • We had a wonderful 2 night stay in the first floor one bedroom apartment. We had no trouble getting in touch to access the place. Very clean and in an excellent location. Would definitely stay again.

  • A nice vacation rental unit in Kailua-Kona, gorgeous private deck, simple, clean, free parking, close to the beach and just far enough away from the downtown madness. Though Bill wasn't around when we checked in, Joseph was, we had no problem communicating with him and had everything we needed. Check-in/out etc. couldn't have been any easier/painless. The furniture and other accoutrements were a bit dated, but everything worked properly and was clean. I highly recommend a visit and we will probably return next year.

  • The great: Bill is a great host. He is so attentive and quick to respond (usually within minutes of receiving an email), and Joz (Joseph), his assistant, was very helpful in being in place after a long flight. Overall, the stay we had was very pleasant, and the accommodations were large enough and very well-located. Access to this place is excellent. Yes indeed, you can hear the ocean roar! The ocean is only a few hundred yards away, and you can hear it mostly at night. The kitchen was great - we ate meals in almost daily - and it was nice to have a good refrigerator and a decent kitchen table. Nice laundry accommodations in the garage area - this comes in handy when wanting to wash daily. Windows are large, and the lanai was spacious. The parking space is covered, and is guarded by two cute geckos. There are citrus trees out back, and you can walk to beaches. You just can't get a better location if you enjoy the beaches, and you're only a few minutes from Kailua-Kona downtown. For the price, that makes this place a top pick, and if you want location, then I recommend this place.

The not-so-great: this is no Trump-tower suite, but it has such potential! The directions that Bill sends out needs to be updated to point people to the correct unit - we initially went to the wrong address. The decor needs updating - it's very stark. Real houseplants would be nice, and better lanai furniture would definitely be great. Hot water is very hot when the sun is out during the day since the water is solar-heated. The air conditioning was insufficient; the broken fan bearing very loud. Even with the ceiling fans cranked, sleep suffered as a result of being too hot at night when shore winds died down. The bed is probably a bit too firm for most people. It would be great if coupons were offered to local restaurants, etc. since other area AirBnB places offer this. These things together contribute to a three out of five star experience where this place could so easily be a five-star slam-dunk winner.

  • Great location. They accommodated a very late check-in, which was nice. The rental is spare - all bare minimum - but comfortable enough.
