Merchanthouse Tangier Sherazade

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Rue Naciria 73, Place Sakaya, Tangier, Tangier-Tetouan 9000, Morocco

In an old Merchanthouse right in the medina of Tangier you can rent a very comfortable double room with a kingsize bed, elegant readingchairs, private bathroom with shower, toilet and lavabo. Lot´s of loungespace to use , a workingarea, free wifi, terraces to relax and enjoy the kasbah and seaview!

The Space

Sherazade is on the first floor of Maison Arabesque. Wooden floors give the room a warm feeling and a colonial touch. The room has two French balconies with a view on the street and the place Sakaya with a little market twice a week. The colourful tiles and ceilings are just beautiful in this room. All original from around 1898. Lay back and relax on the kingsize wooden bed and enjoy the ambiance!

Guest Access

Quests have acces to a lot of communal space in the house.
the reading corner and receptionroom on the ground floor, the Moroccan salon on the first floor and a workingarea (free wifi everywhere!). And on top of that alot of outsidespace for
you. What about 4 terraces and a sundeck with sea- and kasbahview. Wauh!!

Interaction with Guests

As your host I will be around for all your questions. As a Tanjawi since 2006 I can give you good tips where to go , to eat, to shop etc If you need a reliable driver for daytrips to Assilah, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Mohamed is your man. Like to have a Moroccan dinner at home, Abdullah makes delicious dishes. Or you want to make the first day a walking cultural tour through the medina, kasbah and the Marshan. Then Els is your woman. She speaks a lot of lanquages and knows everything about Tangier´s fascinating history and all it´s eccentric people.

The Neighborhood

The rue Naciria is in a very good and safe part of the medina close to taxiparkings on the Grand Succo ( 2 minutes). The neighborhood is very alive. Shops, restaurants, cafe´s bring alot of energy and entertainment. Just have a tea at Sakaya and watch the woman from the Rif bringing their products to the market or the fisherman with all the cats behind his car.

Getting around

Walking, walking and again walking is the best way to get around in the medina. NO cars alowed!! Outside I would also recommend to walk but of course the blue petit taxi´s are everywhere to bring you wherever you want.

  • Great location and great service. Situated right in the medina in lovely old mansion with beautiful terraces. Our room faced the street so was a bit noisy and was quite dark but overall a great place to stay in Tangier.

  • I had a terrific stay at Metchathouse Tangier Sherazade! Peter is an excellent and personable host. The riad is located in a very convenient part of the medina. Peter goes out of his way and takes personal interest to help make your stay wonderful. He is helpful with directions, suggestions on transportation, local guides, places to eat, etc. He is flexible. The facility is well run, convenient and very comfortable. I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. If I come back to Tangiers, I would stay at this place again.

  • My stay at Peter's exquisitely restored home within the old Tangier median was beyond fantastic. The house itself is a beautiful and restful environment, and it's located it the perfect spot within walking distance to cafes, the large and smaller square, and the neighborhood is safe.
Peter was a joy. He greeted us with tea, talked about Tangiers, gave us great suggestions of what to do and where to go, and made the experience of the city a better one. His love of Tangiers and of Morocco is contagious!
The rooms are each different, well furnished, and each one has a different feel. Magic Lantern is bright and within the center of the house, Sherazade is darker but contemplative, looking out on the medina street below, and Sheltering Sky on the rooftop is bright, exotic, and gorgeous.
I'll be back. Not just for Tangier, but to see Peter and stay in his marvelous house again. Simply perfect.

  • Thanks to our stay at Peter’s house, this one has been our best in Tangier, a city that we have visited several times. Peter was very kind and understanding when we missed our flight due to an overbooking and he kept our reservation without any extra cost. He was very considerate and made things really easy from the very beginning. When we arrived to Tangier, we met him at Rif Cinema and helped us with the luggage. After a five-minute walk, you find his beautiful house, hidden among the narrow streets of the Medina… Once inside, you realize how wonderful it is his place, really special, a time travel to old Tangier and its mythical past. It is an impressive mansion, decorated with much love and detail.
The atmosphere in the house is very warm, you never feel that you are a guest/client, but rather a friend. Peter is helpful, friendly, cordial, great conversationalist, always positive and sharing good tips. He was always trying we felt like we were at home.
Breakfast is a feast, with fresh breads and patisseries, coffee, tea, yogurt and fresh fruit, homemade confitures, natural juice…). It will make your day!
The architecture of the house, the books in the library, the ambient music, the views from the terrace, the rooms… Everything is perfect, the best choice in Tangier.
No doubt we will repeat whenever we come back to Tangier. But, above all, our best memory from this trip is Peter.
