Luxury Hyde Park Condo is the a sheik high rise condo in the heart of Hyde Park, a very diverse middle class working community. The unit is clean, well maintained, modern and styled with great taste. The building is very safe, quiet and peaceful. The unit is stocked with fresh and clean linen/towels and an abundance of cookware. You will feel at peace, which is important for anyone's stay, including my own. The building has a 24hr gym and laundry facility.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD: HYDE PARK
Hyde Park is a true Chicago neighborhood. It is probably one of the most diverse and educated community areas within the entire city. Anyone would blend right in - which I think is key when visiting a new place.
PLACES TO EAT:
There are a good number of restaurant options in the area from sushi to Mediterranean along with a few Starbucks sprinkled along the way. There's also a new local movie theater all within walking distance from the condo along 55th, 57th & 53rd, which are main streets within the Hyde Park Community area.
THINGS TO SEE:
Also within walking distance/or short commuting distance to the Smart Museum of Art, Dusable Museum, The Oriental Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House, Midway Plaisance, University of Chicago, The Museum of Science & Industry and the beautiful lakefront and gorgeous Lake Shore Drive.
Hyde Park is also a very safe community area in part because we have two police departments : the Chicago Police Dept & State of Illinois - University of Chicago police (largest university police unit in the state) in the area.
PUBLIC TRANSIT & BIKE FRIENDLY:
I live close to public transit to the EAST /lakefront (near Museum of Science & Industry) with multiple express buses that run directly downtown along Lake Shore and to the WEST through the park, to the CTA Green/Red Line (which has been re-routed) this summer. In addition, there is a light rail line called Metra that also runs on the hour to downtown from Hyde Park.
If you have a bike with you, there are new bike routes along 55th Street right across the street, that will guide you directly to the lakefront and the populous 16 mile bike/running path towards downtown and beyond.
CENTS $$ & SENSIBILITY:
If you are anything like me, you prefer a place with a reasonable price point, in a good and safe area and minus the hotel tax, city tax, county tax (can't forget about Cook County), excise fees, parking fees, rental car fees, and bloated parking rates (thanks to the previous mayor and his infinite wisdom).
Antonio's place is lovely and spotless and stylish! The building is grand, a restored art deco style with in-house gym and library and a full time doorman. It's also in the heart of Hyde Park. I would definitely recommend. (Didn't even see Tony-- but I will bet he is a good guy.) Thanks for a great stay!
The others reviews, descriptions by Antonio and the pictures provided by him are all spot on. I visited Chicago during my children's spring (yeah right, it snowed) break from school. Although we ate either in the condo or a few meals downtown (American Girl, Ed Debevic's) I noticed an unreal amount and variety of restaurants on 53rd alone, just down the block. My kids (ages 11 & 7) enjoyed our neighborhood walk to see the President's Chicago home, site of his first kiss with Michelle, his barbershop and we ate breakfast in Valois, another local favorite of his. We felt safe on our morning walk to see some gargoyles on the campus buildings, the afternoon trip to the grocery store and coming back after dark from the #6 bus stop. The number #2 bus was used our second day and was more convenient than the #6. The #2 stops just a block away but is only a morning and evening rush hour route. The #6 was about a 5-10 walk away but runs all hours. Both of these are express with no stopping between the Hyde Park neighborhood and basically the Art Institute. We found a parking spot kitty corner from the building luckily, but noticed others available scattered about on our walks.
The condo is very clean with IKEA type furnishings and fixtures. There isn't a huge selection of pots and pans but I was still able to make the kids one of their favorites, chicken quesadillas. With all the restaurants around most folks probably wouldn't even open a kitchen cupboard. Other reviews pointed out the lack of a bedroom reading light, yeah I guess so, not much light in the living room area either. Definitely not a deal breaker though. My little girl asked me about the squeaky door. I had to laugh as it was mentioned in another review too. The bed was comfy and all three of us slept good. My 11 year old insisted in sleeping on the sectional and not sharing the large bed. He was in heaven for I don't have cable at home and I let him fall asleep with the TV on Disney or Nick or Cartoon Network or whatever it is he watched. My little girl fell in love with the second bedroom with its peek of the downtown skyline. It was funny because Antonio must store shoes, etc in that second bedroom closet (just like I have things of mine in both of my children's closets), but she couldn't understand why there was "boy shoes in the closet but girl flower sheets on the bed". Her words, not mine.
I am the first of friends, family and co-workers to hear of or use airbnb. This is my first time using it myself and Antonio's condo provided me with a very positive initial experience. His condo worked for us even commuting to downtown but I am sure would be even more convenient for those needing the Hyde Park area exclusively.
Great space, comfort, and furnished! Proximity to downtown is definitely a plus. Also placed within the historic Hyde Park district, where you don't even have to go far for great dining!
If you have a vehicle parking is tricky, however public transportation and cabs are all nearby.
The host is also supportive and courteous! Definitely would reccomend this space to others!
Everything was perfect! Not even a small gripe! :)
Antonio's condo was safe and clean. The pictures displayed in the bio are accurate. Parking was easy as well. Antonio was quick to respond and answer any questions or provide assistance. I would definitely stay here again.
Thank you, great accommodations!
Antonio's place was definitely a home away from home. It was a pleasure to stay in his modern high rise for a month. Great feeling of security, hospitality, and warm welcomes every time I entered his building. Parking was free, bed was comfortable, and having a great shower and coffee after a long day made this stay all kinds of perfect!
Antonio is a great host and super friendly. Place is wonderful. Can't wait to come back !!
A very nice, clean apartment in a lovely building and at an excellent location close to the campus of the University of Chicago. The host is very welcoming and accommodating. A minor detail was the lack of reading lights in the bedroom and very squeeky doors, but overall, we very much enjoyed our stay
Antonio is a great host. You always feel welcome in his apartment. The room is very clean and bed is very comfortable. You have the whole of living room and kitchen to use. In all had a great experience. Will surely come again.
