Luxury Hyde Park Condo is the a sheik high rise condo in the heart of Hyde Park, a very diverse middle class working community. The unit is clean, well maintained, modern and styled with great taste. The building is very safe, quiet and peaceful. The unit is stocked with fresh and clean linen/towels and an abundance of cookware. You will feel at peace, which is important for anyone's stay, including my own. The building has a 24hr gym and laundry facility.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD: HYDE PARK
Hyde Park is a true Chicago neighborhood. It is probably one of the most diverse and educated community areas within the entire city. Anyone would blend right in - which I think is key when visiting a new place.
PLACES TO EAT:
There are a good number of restaurant options in the area from sushi to Mediterranean along with a few Starbucks sprinkled along the way. There's also a new local movie theater all within walking distance from the condo along 55th, 57th & 53rd, which are main streets within the Hyde Park Community area.
THINGS TO SEE:
Also within walking distance/or short commuting distance to the Smart Museum of Art, Dusable Museum, The Oriental Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House, Midway Plaisance, University of Chicago, The Museum of Science & Industry and the beautiful lakefront and gorgeous Lake Shore Drive.
Hyde Park is also a very safe community area in part because we have two police departments : the Chicago Police Dept & State of Illinois - University of Chicago police (largest university police unit in the state) in the area.
PUBLIC TRANSIT & BIKE FRIENDLY:
I live close to public transit to the EAST /lakefront (near Museum of Science & Industry) with multiple express buses that run directly downtown along Lake Shore and to the WEST through the park, to the CTA Green/Red Line (which has been re-routed) this summer. In addition, there is a light rail line called Metra that also runs on the hour to downtown from Hyde Park.
If you have a bike with you, there are new bike routes along 55th Street right across the street, that will guide you directly to the lakefront and the populous 16 mile bike/running path towards downtown and beyond.
CENTS $$ & SENSIBILITY:
If you are anything like me, you prefer a place with a reasonable price point, in a good and safe area and minus the hotel tax, city tax, county tax (can't forget about Cook County), excise fees, parking fees, rental car fees, and bloated parking rates (thanks to the previous mayor and his infinite wisdom).
Antonio's place was great! We were barely there as we were exploring Chicago most of the time. Parking was horrible, but we mostly expected that. Once parked we left our car the entire time and took either the metra or bus into downtown. The only real surprise was there was no handsoap, paper towels, kitchen towels, or hand towels. We made due and it wasn't a deal breaker for us! We highly recommend Antonio's place and would stay again if in Chicago.
Thank you Amanda! I am happy that you overall enjoyed your stay. I apologize for any minor details that may have been missed. Typically parking isn't as hectic. I usually park on the Michigan Ave side where the main gate is, the master key would have given you access in and out of the gate for a more secure and convenient parking option. As for soap and paper towel, the unit typical does not come with it unless requested. In most cases people come with a travel kit with their own soap and do not use the items in the unit so I stopped providing it. As for the towels, there were plenty of clean (hand, wash cloths and dry towels) in the closet near the restroom, which also serves as a replacement for paper towels as I try to be as echo friendly as possible. Maybe it was an oversight. Thanks for staying at the unit, your were a great guest and I will have you back anytime!
Antonio was very friendly and helpful. Access to the condo was easy. The location was perfect for visitors to Chicago. Nice location near the lake, freeways, restaurants and shopping. Neighbors were very pleasant. The only downside was the parking. Street parking was limited. It would have been better if there were an assigned parking spot in the building.
All in all, my family and I enjoyed our experience very much.
The host, Antonio, was very helpful and readily accessibly by phone and text. The apartment was of reasonable size; we were six people. It would have been crowded with eight. This was our first Air bnb experience and it was a bit of a learning curve for me but things worked out fine. I didn't quite understand the access steps but that was my own problem. The entrance was just around the corner on 52nd St. though the address is on Blackstone. With six people in a big city being able to have a nice kitchen, a good refrigerator, cable TV, central air for a reasonable price is an outstanding option.
Hyde Park has got to be the best neighborhood in Chicago. Antonio's apartment is extremely convenient to 53rd St., the focal point of the neighborhood with outstanding restaurants, some shops and well-know banks. Parking in Chicago, in general, is a hastle. Downtown Chicago is easily accessible by express bus, local rail and car.
When we arrived at Antonio's condo, we had problems entering the apartment as well as getting in touch with Antonio. After ringing the door bell and calling him for almost 15 minutes, we were finally able to enter the apartment, and found it had not been cleaned, even though we came after the scheduled check-in time. This being said, Antonio did rectify this soon after and apologized profusely.
The apartment itself is nice and very convenient, especially if one is looking to stay in the Hyde Park area or to be near the University of Chicago. Our largest issue was that we came with a group of 6 adults, and Antonio's place does not reasonably accommodate more than 4 people. We booked the condo because his description indicates that the place accommodates up to 8- this is very misleading. Antonio's place has 2 bedrooms with 2 full sized beds, as well as a queen-sized air mattress. However, he does not have extra bedding for the air mattress, so if you are planning on coming with a larger group, you should plan to bring extra blankets. In addition, if you are planning on coming with elderly individuals, I would recommend looking elsewhere. We had several older individuals in our party, and our sleeping situation ended up being quite uncomfortable.
Amazing. He was so prompt and place was great. Very solid experience
I was unable to use my reservation. Tony was very responsive and met all of my expectation.
This was a great 'home base' in Hyde Park to visit Alumni Weekend festivities with friends. Thanks!
We had a wonderful stay in Tonys apartment and found all details in the listing were as stated. It is close to transport and was easy to get in to the city. The area Hyde Park was a delight, we ate wonderful meals just down the street. We had hired a car for the later part of our stay and found parking was a nightmare, but this is the only negative we experienced. Thank you Antonio .
My family and I had a great stay here! This is in a wonderful location in Hyde Park and the apartment has a pretty cool view. The place was as described by the host. It was comfortable for our 3 person group. The host was very helpful and quickly responded when we had a question. I would stay here again if in the area.
I did not meet the host, but getting in the apartment was easy. It was what we expected, nice and clean, comfortable. The neighborhood was great. Restaurants in walking distance and not far from where we wanted to go. Parking was a bit of a hassle Saturday night, but that was to be expected in the city.
