I enjoyed my stay at Pipa's house. She made me feel very welcome as soon as I arrived, and she was always available to answer questions I had about the neighborhood or Costa Rica. She has lived many adventures, as I have, so our conversations were certainly entertaining!
For my first trip to Costa Rica, staying in this part of Escazu was very educational. This is not the modern part of town (CIMA/Avenida Escazu/Multiplaza), which is a few miles away. This is the more rustic, older part of town, which can be quite charming. It is walking distance from a number of restaurants and even Walmart is reachable in about 30 minutes.
The home is generally quiet, although be prepared to commune with nature a bit. Being so close to the stream and a native bamboo forest, you will be able to see friendly squirrels, ants, geckos, and other fun creatures!
Pipa was also kind enough to allow me to use her garage to park my rental car and her washing machine for laundry.
Try it, you'll like it!
It was a pleasure to stay at Pipa's home. The design is funky and I was glad to be in a solid build home with a safe feeling. It is in short walking distance to several restaurants. Pipa allowed me to park my car in her 2-car garage. It's nice to relaxe at the back balcony and listen to the creek and looking at lots of bamboo and squirls. Pure nature in the back. The nights were quite except the creek keeps running but it's a nice water sound. The unit had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. WiFi was working well. Pipa is nice to talk too, she has lots of knowledge in home contraction, importing contruction matterials and in setting up solar powered homes and much more. If you plan to build a home in Costa Rica it is certainly good to talk to Pipa. I would rent her unit any time again.
Rent at your own risk. The owner’s behaviour is not honest and not stable. First negative experience after 5 months traveling with 2 kids and 2 cats with Airbnb hosts.
Pipa was pretty clear and good on initial communication, she even accepted a DHL package for us before we get there. The house is exactly as on photos and the surrounding is green and quiet. So what’s wrong?
We agreed that we’ll stay in the house longer. That was not something like “Oh we want maybe to stay in your house for some more”, but the agreement for 2 months rent with a handshake. Then, after a try to move us to another house, which was much older, gloomy and we actually didn’t like it, Pipa sent an sms that she needs her apartment, and we had just 5 days to find another property. She blamed that the kids are too loud, but before we make that deal, we asked if any problems with kids and Pipa confirmed that no problem with that.
When we said we’re going to leave, Pipa decided to “check” the apartment if we broke something etc. Kids broke 1 cup, 1 plate and 1 bowl, we replaced that dish with double amount. Also a sliding door from the kitchen storeroom stopped to slide. We had to open it forcibly making a small scratch on the bottom. Of course we told Pipa about that immediately, agreeing to pay for the door.
Finally we got sms, that we have to pay $40 for the “hand made” particleboard dyed door and $20 for “clean and wax the floor to erase the scratches”. If you pm us, we can send you the photos of that 10 years old full of scratches floor, and for sure we didn’t add any new scratches there.
Being a responsible tenants, we’ve paid $60. Being a responsible Airbnb members, we want upcoming tenants to be informed about the host behaviour.
Pipa's house is amazing! Super cool and sleak design with clean lines, modern furniture, minimalist style; combined with cozy furniture and an amazing, cable suspended (and anchored) king size bed! Her house is located in Escazu, a really great (and safe) part of San Jose, up on a hill with fresh air and cool views of the city. Add to that a back yard complete with patio and a rumbling river that rocks you to sleep at night and greets you in the morning; it is a terrific experience. Very restful and relaxing. Finally, there is Pipa, who is even cooler than her apartment. She speaks perfect English and is a very generous and kind hostess. I will definitely be going back to stay at her house again. Highly recommended. Gracias Pipa!!
Being able to stay at Pipa's place in Escuza (where I was having serious dental work done) was an honour and a wonderful stroke of luck. San Jose is not the easiest place for recovery and relaxation so Pipa's place was a needed oasis. She designed and built the place herself - it's spacious, fully functional in every respect and architecturally interesting. The balconies in the rear (hammock equipped) facing the rumbling stream and gorgeous tall bamboo trees were especially delightful. For me being able to use her office as my temporary 'headquarters' made a huge difference. Pipa was always accessible and always a delight to communicate with!
