The Space

Elegant five-story home perched on the top of one of San Francisco’s many hills. The hilly landscape and central location provides this property with fabulous views of the city. It is conveniently located between the Haight/Ashbury and Castro districts.

The common area features a grand stairway and hardwood blonde maple floors throughout. The living room is on the third floor and features a gas fireplace, recessed bookshelves, television/DVD and a Steinway grand piano. The three bedrooms offered on AirBnB and the large shared bathroom comprise the fourth floor.

This listing (Room 2) provides a deluxe double bed which comfortably sleeps two. The room features an adjoining deck with two wooden chairs for enjoying the fresh San Francisco air.

The room can be locked to secure your belongings.

The other two rooms on the fourth floor are also available and together accommodate six people. (Link for Room 1: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1677907 -- Link for Room 3: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1678121)

The shared luxurious bathroom has granite floor, double sinks with onyx countertop, automated toilet with heated seat, huge walk-in shower with rain shower head and onyx walls.

Guest Access

This listing is for a private room in a shared property. All listed rooms share a spacious, meticulously clean and luxurious bathroom.

Guests have access to the dining and living rooms in addition to the half bathroom located next to the kitchen. However, guests do not have access to cook in the kitchen.

However, guests may prepare food using the designated refrigerator, toaster(oven) and microwave located in the dining room.

Interaction with Guests

There are two permanent residents living in the house. We are friendly, helpful and hope to make your stay as comfortable and pleasurable as possible.

Guests who desire to be left to their own devices will be free to enjoy the property unencumbered; whereas those who enjoy stimulating conversation and recommendations about sightseeing and the many offerings San Francisco has to offer will have that option available to them as well.

The Neighborhood

Conveniently located directly across the street is the Upper Terrace Market which sells an extensive assortment of alcohol beverages such as wine and beer. In the morning they offer fresh, hot coffee and an array of fresh pastries. You can also find an assortment of pre-made sandwiches for lunch on the go.

Within walking distance are five major commercial districts:
-Castro
-Haight/Ashbury
-Noe Valley
-Cole Valley
-The Mission District

Each feature an assortment of restaurants, cafes, bars, grocery stores, pharmacies and hospitals (Approx. 1 mile to UCSF medical center and CPMC Davies campus) and movie theaters (The historic Castro Theatre is a 10 minute walk).

Also within walking distance are
-Twin Peaks
-Corona Heights Park (Stunning view of the city without the crowds of Twin Peaks)
-Buena Vista Park
-Golden Gate Park (The Conservatory of Flowers, The DeYoung Museum, The Academy of Sciences, Stow Lake, The Japanese Tea Gardens and The San Francisco Botanical Gardens)
-Tank Hill Park
-Mount Olympus Park
-Duboce Park

Additionally, bicycle rentals are usually available at the east end of Golden Gate park where Haight and Stanyan Streets intersect ($7/hr).

Getting around

Public transportation is available right at the corner of 17th St. and Roosevelt Way not more than 50' from the front door. The closest bus is the 37 Corbett line and the 33 Stanyan line stops one block away on Clayton at Ashbury Street. A short walk down 17th Street in either direction (5-10 minutes walking) will take you to San Francisco's rail system which conveniently links up with the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. MUNI's rail system permits easy access to San Francisco's financial district, downtown shopping district (Union Square), San Francisco's Ferry building, Fisherman's Wharf, Ocean Beach, San Francisco Zoo, Golden Gate Park and much much more. BART permits easy access to both major airports (San Francisco and Oakland) as well as access to much of the Bay Area at large, including but not limited to Berkeley and Oakland. I have placed a link to the transit trip planner which will help you map out your travel to anywhere in the Bay Area via public transportation in the directions section of the listing where we also have detailed directions to and from SFO airport via car or public transportation (Simply enter the starting and ending addresses and the trip planner will do the rest!).

  • We loved our stay in Ernest's home. His son was very welcoming and the house is exactly as pictured: Extravagantly furnished, very clean and brand new. Our bed was super comfortable too! We were in awe of the bathroom, especially the robot toilet. It exceeded our expectations. The motion detector night lights along the stairway were very helpful when we came in after dark. I would love to stay in this house again, it definitely made our trip more enjoyable. It's one of the homes on airbnb that you would surely rave about to family/friends.

  • Ernie and his son Josh were great! They gave us excellent recommendations, and were gracious hosts throughout our stay. The room itself was beautiful and offered every comfort possible, along with a spectacular view. Overall this was a fantastic experience.

  • This was top notch. A great experience. The property is beautiful, the room comfortable and the host both warm and welcoming. If back in the area I would definitely stay here again.

  • This is my second time staying at the property and it's always business. But when I go back to my room, I sleep very comfortably and Ernest/Josh Thayer are very hospitable. I stayed an entire week and all I had to do is ask via email for anything and requests were addressed by the time I got back to my room.

The property is beautiful, just make sure you have time to enjoy it. The neighborhood is also a great location and Josh is always available to answer any questions you may have.

  • Absolutely delightful. Gracious, helpful host (Ernest's son) who oriented me quickly and then left me to my own devices, urging me to contact him if i needed anything. Close to Cole Valley. So much better than a hotel for my business trip. Highly recommend.

  • Great host! Very kind and friendly, but let us do our own thing. Very comfortable space, amazing bathroom. Safe neighborhood, centrally located by public transportation and main drag of the castro neighborhood. Really made our time in SFA

  • Fantastic place in a great location! Looks exactly as advertised and the bathrooms are possibly the most luxurious I've ever seen. The host was extremely friendly and helpful. Also located in a safe quiet neighborhood with close access to public transportation and also a short walk away from parks with great vantage points over San Fran including twin peaks. Definitely would look forward to staying here again.
