About this listing

Cozy, private room with extra loft... Walk to Backporch Coffee Roasters, Spork, and Newport Market. Minutes to MTB trails, trail running, endless road riding, and 35 minutes to Mt. Bachelor. Play, eat, relax and make yourself at home.

The space

Located on the Westside of Bend, this lovely private room offers loads of natural light with a very clean, open-air layout. Along with your own private space (plus loft) and full bathroom, enjoy a spacious kitchen and living room, and a beautifully zero-scaped yard full of vegetables and flowers.

A perfect space for 1-3 people, this cozy room (in our 12-year-old, 1200 square foot home) is walking distance from Newport Market, Sunnyside Sports, Backporch Coffee Roasters, Nancy P's Bakery, Spork, Cuppa Yo, Chow, Kebaba, and Kampai. Other Westside Bend breweries and eateries are just a few steps (or pedals) further. Everything is within five minutes of our doorstep, with trails (Shevlin and Phil's trailhead) only 15 minutes by bike, and 1st Street Rapids two minutes by bike.

Expect peace, quiet, and relaxation while enjoying breakfast among the flowers and greenery of our front yard, or an evening meal around the fire pit. As well, Alley access with parking out back is safe and secure.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the garage (for storing bikes, kayaks, skis, etc.), downstairs bedroom and bathroom, the kitchen and living room, as well as the sunny outside patio and garden. Basically everything except a tiny wooden shed!

Interaction with guests

Minimal. It's up to the guest, really. If you want interaction, we can. If you don't, we can leave you be. Simple as that.

Other things to note

We have an open-air home, which means sound travels easily. While we do try to be as quiet as possible when we are here, especially early mornings, sensitive sleepers might want to book elsewhere or bring ear plugs.

James & Laura are great people in general! They are very kind, open and interested in discussion, and unique people that are inspiring in how they engage in life. They are the type of hosts that you want as friends since it's so nice, intriguing, and generally enjoyable to engage with them. As seen in my 5 out of 5 stars for everything, the stay itself was very enjoyable, with communication being very smooth, the place being very clean, the beds being warm and comfortable, along with an ease of arrival and departure. The one thing I would make sure you know when choosing this place is that it is a loft, so know that sound carriers a bit more into or out of your room in the home when compared to closed-off room. Regardless, both hosts were very respectful with keeping noise down if getting up early, etc... As for the location, it's awesome! There are all sorts of great eating and drinking spots within walking distance, along with the downtown shops, river views, and parks. Bonus for anyone interested in Bend beer...or just wanting to explore more of bend than by walking or running around...there is a rental bike shop super close that gives you the convenient and healthy freedom to explore pretty much of all the breweries bend has to offer, while there are tons of biking paths. If you are into the beauty of the area and/or taking care of yourself with healthy activity, they have great walk, run and/or biking suggestions, like the one my friend and I ran (by the river then up the butte near their place). As for the price, it was a good deal, especially since I had a friend with me to able to split the cost. It was hard to find much cheaper in Bend at all, but particularly with this location, and none that were as good as this spot that had two beds for the location and price. I highly recommend staying with them if you are open to open-style house with great people in central spot where Bend can be explored...or honestly, you could just hang at the place since it feels like a mini cabin given the open-style setup of the living room. I plan on staying at their place again when I plan to visit Bend in the future. Thank you James and Laura, you two are awesome!

Cosy and comfortable house. Friendly, helpful, welcoming hosts. Fantastic neighborhood, walkable to Spork, Chow, and Backporch Coffee Roasters..... and bikable to Phil's. What more could one ask for in a Bend Airbnb?

James and Laura were just the nicest hosts. They shared great tips about the area (restaurants, activities, etc.) and were just genuinely fun to talk to. They have a great place in a really excellent section of Bend! Very convenient and walkable to most destinations in the area.

We had an awesome time staying with James and Laura! They were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome in their home. They gave us advice on which trails to ride, which spots to check out, and they even helped my buddy fix his bike. Very nice people! Their house is comfortable and is in a nice neighborhood of Bend not too far from downtown. I highly recommend staying at their place and plan on returning myself.

Laura and James's house was awesome. Incredible location within walking distance to everything and an easy drive to tons of outdoor recreation spots. Laura and James themselves were great too--we had a good time drinking wine and chatting with them by their fire pit. The room itself was comfortable. The mattress is firm, but not to the extreme. Private bathroom was spacious and well-appointed. In short: we can't wait to return!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay with James and Laura at their home. They were very welcoming and hospitable. The room and open are were very clean and comfortable for taking a break from all Bend has to offer. The location is about a 10 minute walk to downtown Bend and located near many restaurants and brewery options. Also, it's very close to Drake park and the river for getting out on a hot day. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in visiting Bend.

James and Laura were so great and originally from where we are from. It was nice getting to talk to them. Unfortunately we all came down with food poisoning during our stay so elected to leave early for a hotel. James was very nice and they checked up on us even after we left. We hope to make it back to Bend in the future so we can explore this town and would stay with them again.

We live in Bend. It's great. Laura is a wildland firefighter and masters student and James is a reporter and also in a masters program. We're both writers, bike nerds and general outdoor recreate-ers who enjoy good food, drink and conversation. Cheers.
