Located in the (website hidden) mtns, on the Cartecay River, is the quiet, roomy, Gingerbread House with 4 bedrooms, one bunk room, finished basement, 2 porches, one large sun deck, and a cozy riverside fire pit. Guests & their pets are welcome to come relax!
The Gingerbread River House is a tranquil 5 bedroom retreat overlooking the Cartecay River in East Ellijay in the Northwest Georgia mountains.
Surrounded by apple orchards and wineries, this vacation home offers much more than just peaceful relaxation. For adventurers, there are kayaking outfitters, mountains to hike, lakes and rivers nearby to explore, or water holes to fish. For the non-adventurers, there are plenty of antique stores, trading posts and places off the beaten path to discover. Whether you want to pick apples or berries will probably be one of the hardest decisions you will have to make while vacationing here.
Downtown Ellijay is just a 10 minute drive if you want to find typical stores, restaurants, or a night out on the town.
The Gingerbread House is a recently renovated 5 bedroom, 2.5 bath home overlooking the gently rushing Cartecay River.
The double entrance doors welcome you into the large foyer, next to the new kitchen with all new cabinets, stainless appliances, large island, with granite countertops. Hardwood floors run throughout the entire main & upstairs levels.
The kitchen gives onto the family room area with a comfortable seating area, wall mounted flat screen TV with free Netflix & Cable, WIFI, and plenty of games for family fun.
The dining room has a large table that can be extended for large groups, with chandelier and sconce lighting on dimmers throughout all the main living/dining/kitchen areas.
The master on main is tastefully decorated to make you feel at home. 3 sets of French doors run across the back of the main level, opening to the back upper deck. One set opens from the master bedroom, one from the dining area, and one from the family room. Connected to the master is the master bathroom with new slate tile, new granite vanity, new toilet and lighting.
Upstairs you will find a large kid's bedroom with 2 sets of twin bunk beds, TV with cable/Netflix, small sleeper sofa + matching chair/ottoman seating area, and play kitchen set all in this room. This room has a small balcony with French doors overlooking the family room below.
Also upstairs is another guest room with a queen bed with antique dresser & nightstand. Directly across the hall from this room is a large newly renovated full bath.
In the basement, you will find a secondary master bedroom with a king bed, and an attached half bath. There is new slate tile throughout the entire basement, as well as a small laundry room with full size laundry machines.
Continuing down the basement hallway will lead to another small bunkroom with 2 more bunk beds*, & a family room area with a flat screen TV with cable, 2 sofas with 2 large chairs, coffee table, a foosball table and more room to enjoy! (*The small basement bunk bed room remains locked unless the home is rented to a large group, and has rented the home for more than 10 people.)
Outside the basement door is the newly constructed (and waiting to be painted after the wood sets) lower deck with hot tub.
Beyond the deck you will find a large fire pit rimmed with river rocks, surrounded by 6 adirondack chairs.
On the left at the river's edge, there is a small set of stairs, leading down to a sandy beach area of the river, with a swimming hole just beyond the beach.
You will find it easy to unwind, but hard to go home after your stay at The Gingerbread House.
Access to home, decks, yard, fire pit, river, kayaks, long driveway with ample parking.

Private, comfortable house with direct access to the beautiful Cartecay River. Nicely furnished and it looks just like it did in the photos. Enjoyed the fire pit and the deck. Overall, a great getaway in the beautiful GA mountains - wish we had more time to stay.
Our only concern is that the basement was quite musty (one of the bedrooms is in the basement). Also if your kids are supposed to go to bed before the adults, the bunk bed room has a balcony to the main den so they can hear the TV and might not want to go to bed on time.
Thank you for choosing our home and for leaving a review! I will make sure the housekeeper stocks up on soap. There should have been a whole drawer full of hotel soaps, shampoos, etc. in the upstairs bathroom drawer and in the basket under the master sink, but I will have her double check and restock if necessary. Now that it is getting cooler, the a/c isn't being used much in the basement, which takes the moisture/musty smell out. I will also have her turn on the a/c and check the dedicated dehumidifier too. I hope you had a nice weekend and we welcome you back anytime!
Thank you, Megan
Our host was an excellent communicator and responded immediately to our request for information. Our plan to stay at the Gingerbread River House came about spur of the moment after we had to cancel an annual family camping trip due to heavy rains. Within an hour we found the listing, made contact, and packed our car to head out. We cannot say enough about how helpful our host was during the entire stay. Obviously this stay cost us way more than camping but this was an investment in family time and so very worth every penny!
I love spur of the moment guests, because it is usually me in that situation. I was so happy to be able to accommodate you on short notice, and to know that you trusted me enough over the phone to switch gears at the last minute for your family getaway, and head to my river home, instead of camping in the rain. I hope our home met all of your expectations and that you will return for your annual family tradition. Thank you for being easy to communicate with and for being a wonderful guest family!
Until next time...and many thanks,

We are a family of 5 that lives near Atlanta, GA. Our 3 kids and 2 dogs love getting away to the North Georgia mountains and staying at our cabin on the Cartecay. We are originally from Austin, TX, but now call Georgia home.
