Honu Reef 1-2 Bedroom w/Ocean Views

House - Entire home/apt · Kee-Kee Street, Kealakekua, HI 96750, United States

Say "Aloha" to wonderful ocean views & light breezes from the lanai of this South Kona home in the heart of coffee country. Located in a quaint & quiet neighborhood just 19 miles south of the airport & 15 minutes from downtown Kailua-Kona, you're in for a true Hawaiian delight!

The Space

Honu reef is an upstairs, non-smoking property with an open floor plan of 880sf, 2 bedrooms, a living area with a large cable-equipped tv, free Wi-Fi, a dining area & a fabulous covered lanai. We're located in the heart of Kona Coffee country @ 1200 ft elevation, where there are at least 10 different coffee farms in a 5-mile radius where you can sample some of the area's best brews!

Guest Access

In the garage closet there are straw beach mats, a beach bag, folding lawn chairs, snorkel equipment & a picnic cooler bag for those beach-perfect Hawaiian days.

Interaction with Guests

Guests basically have the entire place to themselves, but if they'd like some detailed info on the area, we're more than happy to help them out.

The Neighborhood

Great family neighborhood on a private road.

Getting around

There is a bus stop near the McDonald's where Ke'e Ke'e St & Hwy 11 intersect, but bus service is VERY limited. Having a rental car is much more convenient.

Other Things to Note

The 30 ft of private road to Honu Reef is paved asphalt with a steep 30% grade.

Because the house is upstairs and has an open inner stairwell, families with small children are advised to exercise prudence before reserving our home. Additionally, any child over the age of 1 should be considered an extra guest for reservation purposes.

  • My best friend and I stayed at the Honu Reef April 1st to April 5th, and we have to say that this place has been by far the most amazing place we have booked on AirBnB. The pictures where an exact replica of what the place looks like. It was super clean and spacious. Perfect location to everything. Definitely felt at home here. Hosts recommendations were amazing, Rebel's Kitchen is a must try! Host was welcoming and very accommodating, specially with the little car problem we had on the last day, which made the day simpler and more enjoyable.
We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on the Big Island and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an absolutely amazing place to stay on the Big Island.
    Mahalo Ian and Heather.

  • The house was very nice. I especially enjoyed the views of the sunset from the lanai.
At night, there are lots of peep peep frogs noises. I found them pleasant. There are no traffic or other people noises.

Very pleasant stay, thanks Ian & Heather.

  • Ian was wonderful and the place was amazing. Great spot to explore the Kona area from, beautiful views over the ocean, squeaky clean, comfy, a lovely space and great facilities. It was the kind of place where you walk in the door and immediately feel at home. Thanks Ian :)

  • Maybe the best airbnb accomodation we had so far! Ian and his wife is a great host, a very welcoming and a nice person to discuss with.
He knows very well big island and had nice details to share with us.
He and his wife Heather have set a wonderfull place to live in. Really well decorated, the view is just outstanding, perfect for sunset with a cocktail or for breakfast during the morning.
The house is perfectly clean, well equiped and you'll feel at home from the instant you'll pass the front door untill your departure (kind of hard to leave then).
You have anything you need to stay there as long as you want. Small supermarkets are really close from the house, bigger mall is 10min driving... Closest Snorkeling and surfing spots are 10-15min driving...Lot of coffee farms around (free coffee from 8.30 am at the greenwell farm 1miles from the house).
So really a nice spot to explore the island and to avoid crowds and traffic of Kona area.
Definitly recommended and 5 stars review!!!

  • A great place to stay. In may ways similar to an upscale hotel only better (no crowd). It was quiet and comfortable with a great view. One day it rained but because of this space we were stilled very comfortable. We would stay here again

  • Ian was great to work with, very responsive and helpful, always going the extra mile to make us feel welcome and at home. Honu Reef was absolutely perfect in every way—spacious enough for two couples, convenient location, quiet, beautiful sunset view from the lanai, and clean beyond words. We all were happy as could be with Honu Reef. Ian supplied everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. I really couldn't ask for nicer accommodations.
    Thanks Ian!

  • Ian was a great host. He greeted me when I arrived and answered all my questions. The house had nice furniture, definitely a step up from the condos I have rented in the past, and the kitchen had nice pots and pans and utensils. We really felt at home. Thanks Ian!

  • It is the paradise on earth! Ian was a great host. The apartment is nice, very clean and cozy. It has everything you need even cable tv and snorkeling equipment. Sitting on the balcony and enjoying the sunset really felt like a happy end in a movie. We would definitely book it again and again and again:-)

  • Ian and Heather were fantastic hosts! The apartment was spacious, immaculate, and comfortable. Everything looks brand new and is high-end. They had everything you could ever need. We loved the kitchen and the lanai overlooking the ocean. We borrowed their cooler and snorkel gear too. Perfect check-in instructions, easy to find. Great location in a neighborhood close to Kealakekua Bay. Very helpful hosts. We hope we can stay with them again someday. Highly recommend!

  • This place great as a home base to explore the east side of the island, with prime beaches just 10-15 min away. It's a bit high up, with a priceless view from the patio. The place was very look, and all looks pretty new, with all modern confort. The place was ok for our two little ones, but it's more a romantic gettaway kind of place than a place to crash with a large family (I would suggest one of those toddler doors/gates for the stairs down). We could borrow Ian and Heathers snorkel and beach gear, thanks!

About
I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area & Heather is originally from the Kansas City area. We really enjoy traveling & have been all over the U.S. and the Pacific Rim. I love fish tacos (& most seafood in general), she loves anything with cheese involved (typically the more the better), and we're both pretty laid back.
