Response from Richard:

I don't think i'd recommend any young woman to walk alone at night in any European city whilst visiting. Smithfield is a marvelously diverse part of the north inner City and i don't really think it's fair to base that sort of broad sweeping statement on a 2 night stay. Anyone that has ever visited Smithfield love this part of town. Yes it has some 'sketcy' parts but just being sensible and aware is the approach to take. Europes largest hostel is located in Smithfield Square, Jameson Distillery is located there too so there is a tourist element that would attract pick pockets i guess but it's definitely NOT what you painted it as. The square does get quieter at night but there is a constant flow of people walking from the tram through the lighted square so i wouldn't even think that statement is entirely true to be honest - i'd have no problem recommending to any young woman that Smithfield is safe to walk through at night? In my 8 years living here, i've NEVER once seen or heard of anyone being mugged?

Regarding amenities, there was a kettle there with granulated coffee in abundance. There is fact was a whole cupboard full of food left out for you to use. There are 8 light outlets in the living room, the bulbs were purposely removed as the apartment is much too bright with all bulbs in. I take the bulbs out so the apartment has comfortable lighting. The apt heats up within 5 minutes if you simply turn on the various storage radiators on the walls.
