Best price for perfect stay

House - Private room · 15th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90403, United States

You'll enjoy the privacy of your own room with wonderful day bed (plus inflatable bed if you are 2) in a perfectly located contemporary home. Garage parking, wifi, full use of gourmet kitchen, shared bathroom... you won't want to leave! For private bath, see my other listing.

The Space

This space is an office that converts into a comfortable bedroom. A separate shared bathroom is close by.

Guest Access

You're renting a room but have access to entire house... laundry facilities, gourmet kitchen, wifi, garage parking, 5 bicycles, cable TV. I travel 12 days a month for work, therefore you sometimes will have the house to yourself (message me before booking to check my availability).

Interaction with Guests

Since LA is the entertainment capital of the world... you are the star of your stay. I'm simply the supporting cast. You need help finding the best restaurants or the hidden jewels that no tourist know about? I can guide you in the right direction. Want to join me for tango, yoga, swimming, biking...? you're welcome to tag along. You have your visit all planned out? I'll be invisible and you'll be on your own. It's all about you.

Other Things to Note

This is important, I ask that no meat product be eaten, brought or cooked in the house. I've been a vegetarian for over 25 years and desire to keep meat out of my house. What is meat? It seems to be a blurry concept to some. Meat is any animal product to include beef, pork, poultry, seafood, shellfish, animal organ. Some guests have come and criticized my decision and tried to sneak meat into the house, they've labeled my lifestyle "unnatural", "dangerous", "anti-christian"... I'm making a big point of mentioning this aspect so you know what to expect and no one is surprised or disappointed. (Dairy products are acceptable)
I average 25 requests per day, please message me before making reservations. I travel for a living and want to make sure I'm available to greet you. If I agree to rent please make reservations as soon as possible, someone else might beat you to it. I give priority to people who have profiles, thanks.

  • Carl was an excellent host! Very friendly, helpful with suggestions of things to see and do in the area, the apartment is spotless, very nicely decorated, comfortable and in a great location. You can pretty much walk to shops, restaurants, beach etc. Great bargain and would definitely come back and stay and recommend to others.

  • Carl was a fantastic host! His place is located in a very desirable section of town, in a great neighborhood, near many shops, restaurants and Whole Foods. Carl is very nice and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Carl's place is the best place to stay in Santa Monica. The location is perfect and neighbors are also nice and quite. You can go everywhere from his place. There are Whole Foods Market & Starbucks near by Carl's house. Also there's Yoga studio. Above all, Carl is super nice host I've ever met! He is generous and has sense of humor! Plus, He's a good cook :) I had no time to do some activities with him but if you have chance, ride a bike with him or take a yoga class with him! It will be fun!! :)

  • Carl is a wonderful host! His home is just beautiful and so welcoming. And I very much enjoyed having a delicious and healthy breakfast--which he'd prepared--over great conversation with Carl. The location of his place, with a short 20-25 minute walk to the ocean and so many nice restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and boutiques just around the corner, is just perfect. I wholeheartedly recommend Carl as host and his home as a beautiful place to be. Merci beaucoup, Carl!

  • Carl is a fantastic host in addition to being such a pleasant person and a beautiful soul. He enjoys sharing his worldly adventures, satisfying one’s curiosity for elusive places (you’ll want to spend hours on Travelocity planning your next escapade after chatting with him!). Few people embrace the world with such simplicity and an open mind like Carl. Many before me can attest that he is one to touch people’s lives in a very positive way. Hopefully, all those whose lives he touched will do the same with someone else; creating a ripple effect of kindness in a world that needs it! Thank you Captain Paradise!

  • I had such a fantastic time with Carl. There are so many thing about this place that's just great: The house is bright and wonderful, the rooms big and comfy, the atmosphere very nice, and the neighbourhood is just lovely. The ocean is close by, you can simply feel the freshness of the clean air. And then there is Carl himself; a joyful man with fun stories, Carl is full of surprises. He made me feel very welcome, he even invited for dinner when I came from the airport. And made me lunch and breakfast too! He'll show you around Santa Monica if you'd like that (do go for a bike ride with Carl, you'll have a great time!), he'll give you tips on where to eat, where to go for a coffee - he's just the most trustworthy and helpful host you can imagine. He's always positive and he has a great sense of humour.

I truly loved staying here. I did yoga at the yoga place near by, went for walks, biked down to the ocean - I stayed for two weeks and the days passed by so fast. There's a Whole Foods and Starbucks next door, and you can get to Beverly Hills/West Hollywood easily with a bus if you don't have a car. I didn't have a car, but the neighbourhood is very walkable and safe, so it wasn't a problem at all. Also there are many nice stores down the street. I fell in love with Santa Monica and I can't wait to go back!

  • Had such a wonderful stay. Carl made me feel so welcome and went above and beyond what I would expect of any air bnb host. Both mornings I woke to my breakfast ready on the table! (and may I add it was delicious! )
He was even so kind as to give me a bike riding tour of the neighbourhood so I could get my bearings. Couldn't recommend staying with Carl highly enough! I'll definitely be going back the next time I'm in LA
    Thanks so much Carl!

  • My first airbnb experience and it was a great one. From the first minute to the last, Carl was extraordinarily welcoming and generous. He helped me with everything. By far the best host you can imagine! His home is so comfortable, well-located, and has everything you'd need for an awesome stay in Santa Monica... including bikes when you need them! I'm pretty sure I'd be disappointed if I stayed anywhere else next time I'm in Santa Monica.

  • I enjoyed my LA trip for 2 reasons: the good weather and meeting Carl.

Not only was Carl a great host like every reviewer had mentioned, he was also so refreshing and inspiring to converse with. I'm grateful for the opportunity and the experience.

About
As an airline pilot for 25 years flying mostly Boeing 767, I've traveled extensively for work and pleasure. "1000 Places To See Before You Die" is on my nightstand. I've climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, hiked Machu Picchu in Peru, retraced Darwin’s steps in the Galapagos islands, faced the Terra Cotta in Xi An, biked across India to Agra, visited Angkor Wat and Killing Fields in Cambodia, skied the Alps, climbed the Pyramids in Egypt, cruised the Greek islands, gotten dirty in the Cuchi tunnels of Vietnam, surfed the waves of South Africa, danced tango in Buenos Aires, admired Lucy in Ethiopia, sat next to the gorillas of Rwanda, mingled with orangutans and komodo dragons in Indonesia... and a few more fun places. Yoga, swimming and biking are part of my daily routine. I practice tango, often attend jazz concerts and see very few mainstream blockbuster movies... more into indie art house productions. I'm a vegetarian, speak French and English and follow Darwin's philosophy: “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”
