We spent spent 5 weeks in this amazing property in Ballyshane East Cork. The Barn is spacious, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. We really appreciated the comfortable king-size bed! The garden is superb - bursting with fresh veggies, which we devoured. Kenneth was incredibly generous with his time and attention. We had everything we needed - often before we even had a chance to ask.
The location was perfect for us. A spectacular coastal location. Beautiful walks right from the property, including access to the long coastal trail. We could reach Cork City within 30 minutes, but found that we had most of what we needed within 15 minutes of the house. Middleton is a great little town with a wide range of amenities - including a fabulous pilates studio. We are foodies and were particularly happy to find some very good restaurants, excellent local markets and extensive organic food options at our finger tips. The Ballymaloe hotel and cooking school and shop are superb resources in this area.
Prior to our stay in the Barn, we had spent 2 wonderful months traveling around Ireland. We are already making plans for an extended stay at the Barn in Ballyshane next summer. Highly recommended!
Gorgeous place, among the best I've stayed anywhere, and an incredibly generous host Keneth - we arrived to find not just bread, milk, fresh laid eggs etc but also coffee, teas, a bottle of wine, bits & pieces in the fridge, you name it. Far enough away from towns to feel secluded & special, but also not that far (15-20 min drive) to places like midleton & its terrific Saturday farmers market (definitely go there for the fresh local produce, hot chocolate & ballymaloe stand). We loved it: we introduced our baby daughter to the two resident donkeys, walked over the fields to see the sea (local beaches are short drives away), cooked in the well-provides for kitchen, lazed by the fired... We're missing it already. Highly, highly recommend it. Worth the drive south from Dublin, even on a short holiday to Ireland as we did.
Keneth was a saint! He was so patient with our ditziness! The place is beautiful, well appointed, but was just too remote for us. We got lost trying to find the place, got lost getting to the local store and had to call dear Keneth 18 times for directions! Bless his heart he came and rescued us and brought us back.
Sadly, we had to check out early, we just couldn't trust we find the place on our own. Day 3 of our trip, day 1 of the rental car and we just needed access to pubs and activities.
We can laugh now, but it was a wee bit stressful at the time, when in the middle of the night all the lights came on downstairs! If this place was in Kinsale or Marin County or Carmel, it would fetch $800/night! Well done Keneth! Just not for us.
We absolutely loved staying in this cottage by the sea. The space is tastefully designed, and we immediately felt at home. Keneth was kind and attentive, and an all around great host. I would return in a heart beat.
We had a lovely stay, the location was wonderful for what we needed- peace and tranquility! The beach was in walking distance- so we made the most of it. Accommodation was lovely, very comfortable. Kenneth was a perfect host- very warm and kind and happy to help with everything. Would definitely recommend.
The house was amazing. Very stylish and everything what you need to relax for a few days is at hand. From books to all you need to make a nice meal. The location is wonderful. We spend a few days here with our daughter and son and its great for kids. The ocean is nearby and chicken, lambs and even two donkeys are on the grounds. Keneth was a great host. He pointed in the direction of a few good restaurants in the area and offered help whenever needed. Definitely the place to go if you want to disconnect for a few days!
As a first experience of using Airbnb this will be hard to beat! As a family of four we know East Cork pretty well and wanted somewhere comfortable and a bit different to relax, enjoy real fires and spend some time away from home over the New Year period. Keneth's a real gentleman and has really delivered - great welcome, very comfortable surroundings with everything you could need. We'll be back!
