The Space

This room is the newest addition the Artist Homestead near Shaker Square. The "Artist Homestead near Shaker Square" and "Artist Homestead 2 near Shaker Square" are the two rooms on the first floor. This room listed as "Artist Homestead 3 by Shaker Square" is on the second floor in the upstairs apartment and shares a kitchen and a bathroom with me (I live in the other bedroom in this apartment). In your bedroom there is a comfortable queen size orthopedic mattress bed, a desk, chair, and walk-in closet (see photos).

The Kitchen is simple, old-fashioned (no dishwasher, no microwave), and homey, with rough wood shelves and a cast iron pan to add to its eccentric flavor. The bathroom has a big claw foot tub & shower. There are two spacious sitting rooms with a couple couches and chairs to hang out in. There is a front porch with a hammock and couch to enjoy the great sunsets over the old church across the street.

See the other listings ("Artist Homestead near Shaker Square" & "Artist Homestead 2 near Shaker Square") for a description of the neighborhood & public transit nearby. It's close to Cleveland Clinic and University Circle, Larchmere, Shaker Square, and not far from Little Italy and Coventry in Cleveland Hts.

There is a dog and a cat who are very friendly.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Great host, very accommodating, convenient for business near the hospitals. Thanks Daniel!

  • Me and my girlfriend stayed for about a month in Dan's house on the top floor, and it was great! Dan and his family were extremely nice and welcoming, and we miss Gypsy the cat oh so dearly. I work nights, so I get off work around 5:30 in the morning and it wasn't a problem for him or the other guests, which is great. The couple has many interesting stories and are overall really friendly. If the opportunity arises to stay there again, I definitely would.

  • Daniel and his family were wonderful hosts. Even though we were very busy spending time with family and friends over Thanksgiving, they always made sure we were comfortable and caffeinated.

The house is beautiful, cozy, and clean (and warm!). Our room was perfect and the bed was very comfortable.

    I'd definitely recommend staying here.

    December 2013
  • The moment I set my bags down I was greeted with a huge hug from Gypsy the cat, so maybe I'm biased, but I had a great visit. Despite being such a large house, each room felt incredibly cozy and was decorated with unique charm. My stay was brief, but Daniel was very accommodating and I felt totally at-home. I'll definitely look him up the next time in in Cleveland!

I am an artist, musician, and puppet and mask maker who was born and raised in Cleveland. I have traveled and performed all over the world with the Bread and Puppet Theater, and I came back to Cleveland to start a family and give a shot at making a life for me and my theatre work in my home town . I am now on Hiatus from art making and have returned to my studies at University, and am living for the most part on the other side of town in Ohio City with my wife and daughter. Before the Haitus, I had a Puppet and Mask Theater Company comprised of friends and family members, and we made parades in different neighborhoods, led workshops around town, and took sculptures, paintings, writings, and music and made them into performances large and small and performed them in bookstore basements, city parks, and abandoned churches in abandoned parts of town and we called them "Puppet" shows. I also have done handy man work, have a saxophone student, and do home care. I like to get together with people and build things, like the aquaponic greenhouse I built on the side of this house (no longer functioning), or the raised garden beds I built with the help of neighborhood kids. The neighborhood can have its challenges, and is a bit rough, especially if you aren't familiar with Rust Belt Landscape. BUT, I like that Buckeye is a place where family members move next door to each other, children run and play in the street, and neighbors aren't afraid to yell up at a window just to say hi or check on you. I really grown to love and cherish the neighborhood of Buckeye in the two and a half years I have lived there. It is a real pleasure for me to have people come and stay here, as I really enjoy meeting people from other places, and it is very positive to have people come through and bring their experiences and the places that they come from with them for a little while.
