About This Listing
Our cute west side two bedroom cottage--a block from the Deschutes River trail/kayak rapids. Comfortably sleeps four on two queen beds. Large kitchen, gas fireplace, hot tub, fenced yard for dogs, WIFI, cable TV, BBQ, and a short walk to downtown.
Large completely fenced backyard with hot tub, BBQ, large deck and room for dogs to play. Patio furniture for outdoor eating. Extra parking place off back alley.
We listed the Bungalow last September and have had wonderful renters this first year. Hard to find a cuter house, in such great shape, with all of these amenities, close to the river and downtown. We are dog-friendly, as is the neighborhood, with one of the best walking trails in town a block away.
We will give you access to a lock box (with a code) with the keys to the front and back doors. Super easy, regardless of when you arrive, to get the keys out of the box (by then you will have the code) and open the back door.
Interaction with Guests
We do not live in Bend, but our daughter lives around the corner if you have trouble with anything. Her partner is a great handyman as well but more important, knows great people who can come quickly with problems. They both know all of the best places to mountain bike, camp and hike.
We love the quiet neighborhood. Everyone walks everywhere. Gallaries, restaurants and Mirror Pond are a 10 minutes walk away, along the river and city park.
Mountain bike to all of the best trails from the house, onto the river trail as well as the mountain trails just out of town. All streets around here are very bike and walking friendly.
Other Things to Note

We loved staying at John and Sally's bungalow on Second Street. Every morning we walked the river trail which is only a few blocks away. The house is very close to downtown and within walking distance to a variety of beautiful parks. The neighborhood is very quiet especially at night. We were so comfortable in this very clean and well organized house. Thank you John and Sally for taking the time and effort to help make our stay so amazing.
The 2nd Street Bungalow was a great experience in Bend. The house was clean and John and Sally were very communicative. They provided detailed instructions for our stay which made it easy to figure everything out. We were able to walk to downtown easily in about 5 minutes and the covered carport by the house made packing up easy in a little downpour. Our dogs laid in the sun outside almost all day and the neighborhood is very nice. Thank you John and Sally! I hope we can stay at your place again!
John and Sally's bungalow is lovely, its in a great neighborhood, and very close to downtown Bend. Easily within walking distance with no need to drive into town at all. Sally also communicated with us very promptly and made sure that everything was in order before and after our stay. The cozy fireplace and hot tub were our favorites!
This was our second visit to 2nd St. Bungalow, and it was even better than the first, mostly because we already knew just how comfortable John and Sally's home is. The location couldn't be better in a very pleasant neighborhood just a few minutes walk across the Deschutes River to downtown Bend. The feeling of being "home" permeates the Bungalow.
We love the dog-friendly aspects of their house and yard, the community, and many of the hikes around Bend. There's a fabulous off-leash area just SW of town on the Cascades Lakes Byway, more than a square mile of forest bordering on the Deschutes with lots of great trails throughout. We saw a pair of Osprey in their nest near the river one morning.
This time we also ventured east of Bend to check out the Independence Mine ghost town, which was very cool, and the drive there was beautiful, too. We'll check out that area more with bikes on our next visit.
Our great thanks to John and Sally for sharing their Bend home with us.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Second Street Bungalow. Owners John and Sally made us feel very welcomed and they were great to work with. Their communications and detailed information about the house and instructions. were outstanding. The description of the house was spot on and the neighborhood was really nice and quiet. The nearby river walk and close proximity to downtown Bend with all it's pubs and restaurants make this rental really great. We are already planning our next trip back. Two thumbs up, highly recommend.
John and Sally were extremely helpful from the get go. Every question you might have had was already answered in their detailed instructions (received a week prior) and the guide book in the bungalow. This house was the perfect spot for our family. All seven of us fit very comfortably (4 adults, 1 baby, 2 pups) and had more than enough space to relax. It's tough to find a spot that will accommodate pets without size restrictions and truly understands they are a part of the family too! The house is so adorable, everything you'd ever need is there. We loved the backyard and relaxing in the hot tub on a cold night looking up at the stars. A great place to hang out with friends and easy walking distance to newport ave, galveston, or downtown. What a wonderful place, we hope to be back again someday!

About the Host, John And Sally
We just bought this house in August 2013. We are so happy to be back in Bend, at least part-time. We lived there full time for 13 years in the 80's and 90's and are now trying to move back permanently. The Bungalow is our first step in this direction. John is a retired Oceanographer and Sally works in international forestry (see (website hidden) if interested). This year we traveled to Provence, France for a colleague's wedding, where we stayed in a lovely Airbnb home. Sally went to Buea, Cameroon and Oaxaca, Mexico for her work. In 2015 we hope to come back to Bend more, as well as travel to Peru in April (for work, hoping John will come along!).
The home in Bend is a block from our daughter who will help us manage the property. We live in Lyons, Colorado for now, where we hike, mountain bike, telemark ski and road bike, among many other hobbies. We raised our daughter In Bend, so have tons to resources to offer a renter, from restaurants to hikes to great galleries. We are invested in the community there, are proud of how it has managed growth, transportation and general quality of life.
