About this listing
(Ck calendar - availability)
Within walking distance to downtown Santa Fe, this historic real adobe home is the epitome of Santa Fe charm. It provides a comfortable home away from home for you to explore what this great historic city has to offer.
The house is perfectly located for visitors on Don Gaspar Avenue within walking distance to the Plaza and the Railyard and half a block from the State Capitol rotunda.
The home is a territorial adobe set in a historical house built when Santa Fe was a part of Mexico in the mid 1800's and retains many original features. My family has lived in this property since 1952.
The house comprises large open plan living rooms, two bedrooms with two en-suite bathrooms, one with a full bath and a separate shower, the other with a 3/4 bathroom. There is another full bath accessible through the corridor. One living room has a comfortable leather couch that converts to a queen size bed and the other has a sofa bed. For extra sleeping accommodation, there is an additional sofa bed in the room adjacent to one of the living rooms.
Our home on the first floor measures approximately 2400 square feet and can comfortably accommodate 7 people. The kitchens have full amenities with two tables for 4. There is also another table in each living room by large picture windows which can be used for dining as well or as a work space. The adobe home is cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter.
This house is listed as an entire, whole house for larger parties or more space, as well as two separate units for less people. (Please see my other listings on my profile page.) The house is NOT available when one of the units is rented and visa versa.
The house is totally self-contained with three bathrooms and full kitchens with access to two porches from three different rooms in the front of the house. Parking is available for 3 or 4 cars near the front entrance on the property.
Interaction with Guests
As a native Santa Fean, I can provide any information on dining, shopping, local attractions, events and local history you may need. I can provide guided historical tours of downtown Santa Fe as well. Just ask me a.s.a.p, so I can plan for it in ahead of time. I love to interact with my guests and would be happy to give you a tour around town.
Also, I run a "mini-spa" on the property and can offer massage therapies, facials and BodyWalking if you wish. 60 Min. massage or BodyWalking $50. Facials $60. Please schedule with me in advance if you are interested.
Don Gaspar Ave. is located in one of the best and most beautiful neighborhoods in old Santa Fe. It is also one of the safest places to live. Bandelier once resided in this house until he built a bigger one on Canyon Road. In the sixties, only families occupied the homes on this street, which was near schools, shopping, etc. Now the block is in a commercial district, which means it is near where the action is on weekdays and quiet on the weekends.
Shopping, groceries, restaurants are all within walking distance. The Railrunner and bus systems are nearby, but actually, you don't need a car in this area.
Other Things to Note
Our gentle Collie in the backyard has sadly passed away, so there is now access to the back porch. Just finished a courtyard with outside furniture on the south side as well.
We live in the apartment upstairs, so we will be close by, if you should need anything. Thank you, Virginia
NOTE FOR MONTHLY RENTERS ONLY:
The cancellation policy for monthly renters is strict and the security deposit is $350.
PLEASE, NO SMOKING inside the house. Some people are allergic to the smoke smell that lingers after. As there is absolutely NO SMOKING allowed only inside the house, please be aware of the dry climate in Santa Fe should you choose to smoke outside.
When you arrive you may read the simple information sheet on location and sign a one page agreement.
Thank you, Virginia
Virginia's house was perfect for our brief family trip to Santa Fe. The house is exactly as pictured and described and Virginia was a terrific host; communication very clear before and during our visit. She even borrowed a portable crib for the baby. The location is excellent. Easy walking distance to downtown so no time wasted looking for parking.
Walking to Holy Spirit Espresso was an every morning ritual. Say hello to Billy for us.
Only caveat is that although there are enough sleeping surfaces for ten people there are only three bedrooms with closed doors. We knew this going in so it is in NO way a complaint.
Thanks Bob for being a ideal guest. We're glad you had many of your family all together under one roof. It must have been a blast. This May has been unexpectedly busy, but we managed just fine. You all are welcome back any time. Greetings to your family, Virginia & Ed
The house is in the perfect location, a few blocks from the square and across the street from the Capitol. The history as shared by the host is very interesting and really reflects the heritage and history in the home. Our host was gracious and everything was as expected. We plan on rebooking this home on our next Santa Fe visit.
We have just completed a 4 days stay at the lovely home of Virginia and Ed Moench in Santa Fe. I can honestly say that of all of the B and B's through Trip Advisor and AirBnB, this one was our best experience. We were welcomed warmly with a gift of a box of Turtles and a bottle of white wine, and offer an additional bottle of sangria which we accepted. When we walked into the entry we were amazed to see how much room we had. Virginia gave us a tour and we actually got lost, the space was so large. The unit is large enough for two families separated. E.g.: there were two kitchens, two living rooms, and plenty of bedrooms. Three toilets were adequately scattered. The front room has a bright airy feeling, with eastern sun filling the space all day. Off of the front room were a large bed room with plenty of shelves for storage. The unit has 3 flat screens and cable TV. The kitchen is adequate enough to cook any meal but wed availed ourselves to the restaurants in the area of which there were too many to enumerate. We also availed ourselves of the laundry room which had a washer and drier as well as laundry soap. In fact,Virginia has supplied this unit with all of those heavy things that you just cannot possibly take along with you such as body creams, conditioner, shampoo, dishwashing liquid, paper towels, toilet paper, a few condiments for cooking, etc. It is like living in someone else's home.
I m no sure about availability of AC but the heating system was more than adequate since we visited in a very cold Christmas week with temps in the teens. We had plenty of hot water, and the shower heads were great.
If you are looking for a home away from home with your family this is ideal. It is walking distance (about 5 blocks) to the Plaza and you have your own private parking space right next to the front door.
Thanks Dale for being such a wonderful guest and we're happy that you had your best experience with us. From the very beginning, we noticed that you felt at home even though you were on the go a lot. Wishing for you more adventures in the new year, Virginia & Ed
The host was in contact with us before the trip and provided great information. Everything was all ready for us and we didn't lack for anything. Chocolate, wine, and coffee waiting for us upon our arrival.
Thanks Kristi, Ed was happy to invite you in and show you around. Glad that you liked our place as a base to explore parts of NM from and that you enjoyed not only the Thanksgiving dinner but in particular being with your extended family and maybe we get to see you another day. Happy holidays to come, Virginia & Ed
It was a "home away from home" with colorful decorations, artwork, and furniture that reflected the southwest. Beds were firm, clean towels and bed sheets were provided. Interior and exterior of property was well kept and clean. Kitchen utensils, plates, cups, etc. and bathroom supplies were sufficient.
The pictures advertised was how it was.
Great location - a 10 min walk to the Santa Fe Plaza filled with shops, groceries, restaurants, and Santa Fe Farmer's Market. We were a 2family of 7 (3 generations) and we each had our own space to put our things and rest after a long day of sightseeing. It was very convenient to have 2 kitchens, washer/dryer, 3 full bathrooms, and dining room to eat breakfast, snacks, and dinner.
There was a land line where we could contact Virginia and/or Eduard directly. Both of them were accommodating and approachable.
Since we opted to do day trips in and around Santa Fe, there was ample parking for our rented van.
Thank you, Virginia and Eduard, for hosting us.
We went for a family vacation. This was a perfect place to stay. We enjoyed coffee on the patio in the morning and sipped wine in the kitchen as we cooked dinner. Easy walk to Santa Fe square. Virginia was great hostess.
Virginia was a lovely host and the house was everything and more than described! She provided lots of little touches that really made it special: chocolates, a bottle of wine and extra linens for my party of six women. She even let us borrow one of her massage tables as one of my party is also a licensed massage therapist...very generous of her! Her beautiful, older adobe home had lots of great places for us to gather and relax, and the location to all the best parts of Santa Fe could not be beat. It's literally a 5 block walk to the plaza and all the shopping and nightlife Santa Fe has to offer. We had a great time in Virginia's home and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway right in the heart of Santa Fe. If you visit, please ask her about the pizza and craft beer place she told us about. We were FLOORED by how delicious it was and we sat at a table right next to Shirley MacLaine!! So fun! Thanks Virginia!
Your welcome Shawn, WOW, next to Shirley MacLaine! I saw her about 10 years ago at the legislature. She kissed my Dad on his bald head. She is so sweet and funny. I'm so glad you all had a great time in Santa Fe and stayed at our home. Hope you get to return to Santa Fe and New Mexico soon. Hasta la vista, Virginia
