Within walking distance to downtown Santa Fe, this historic real adobe home is the epitome of Santa Fe charm. It provides a comfortable home away from home for you to explore what this great historic city has to offer.

The Space

The house is perfectly located for visitors on Don Gaspar Avenue within walking distance to the Plaza and the Railyard and half a block from the State Capitol rotunda.

The home is a territorial adobe set in a historical house built when Santa Fe was a part of Mexico in the mid 1800's and retains many original features. My family has lived in this property since 1952.

The house comprises large open plan living rooms, two bedrooms with two en-suite bathrooms, one with a full bath and a separate shower, the other with a 3/4 bathroom. There is another full bath accessible through the corridor. One living room has a comfortable leather couch that converts to a queen size bed and the other has a sofa bed. For extra sleeping accommodation, there is an additional sofa bed in the room adjacent to one of the living rooms.

Our home on the first floor measures approximately 2400 square feet and can comfortably accommodate 7 people. The kitchens have full amenities with two tables for 4. There is also another table in each living room by large picture windows which can be used for dining as well or as a work space. The adobe home is cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter.

This house is listed as an entire, whole house for larger parties or more space, as well as two separate units for less people. (Please see my other listings on my profile page.) The house is NOT available when one of the units is rented and visa versa.

Guest Access

The house is totally self-contained with three bathrooms and full kitchens with access to two porches from three different rooms in the front of the house. Parking is available for 3 or 4 cars near the front entrance on the property.

Interaction with Guests

As a native Santa Fean, I can provide any information on dining, shopping, local attractions, events and local history you may need. I can provide guided historical tours of downtown Santa Fe as well. Just ask me a.s.a.p, so I can plan for it in ahead of time. I love to interact with my guests and would be happy to give you a tour around town.

Also, I run a "mini-spa" on the property and can offer massage therapies, facials and BodyWalking if you wish. 60 Min. massage or BodyWalking $50. Facials $60. Please schedule with me in advance if you are interested.

The Neighborhood

Don Gaspar Ave. is located in one of the best and most beautiful neighborhoods in old Santa Fe. It is also one of the safest places to live. Bandelier once resided in this house until he built a bigger one on Canyon Road. In the sixties, only families occupied the homes on this street, which was near schools, shopping, etc. Now the block is in a commercial district, which means it is near where the action is on weekdays and quiet on the weekends.

Getting around

Shopping, groceries, restaurants are all within walking distance. The Railrunner and bus systems are nearby, but actually, you don't need a car in this area.

  • We rented both sides for a family of 6. We were very comfortable. The younger children slept on the fold out beds. The kitchen was well stocked with tools and we are able to cook and bake with no problems. The house has only 1 window air conditioner ,but remained cool without it for most of the week due to the adobe construction. The location is perfect, a quick walk to the plaza yet not in the middle of the crowds. Virginia was very helpful and easily accessible if need be. We had little time to interact with our hosts as we were in town for a wedding and had lots to do.

  • As two retired couples from Minnesota looking to explore Santa Fe and surrounding areas, we found the 2400 s.f. Adobe Home Downtown to be perfect. We could walk to downtown and beyond; we had an abundance of space sufficient to have both private and shared spaces; and Virginia and Ed were accommodating hosts. How many places can boast having the Capitol just down the street, to say nothing of the rest that Santa Fe has to offer?

Thanks Leslie, glad everything worked out for you. Since this historical house has to be treated gently, ten was pushing the limit, but we managed. Happy that you could celebrate your special birthdays and the holiday with your friends. Hope the weather at your hometown improves for you soon. Hope to see you in the future, Virginia

  • We took the entire property, which consists of two apartments on the first floor of this two-story house. It was perfect for the five of us, with two comfortable bedrooms and attached bathrooms, and a variety of other sleeping spaces for our nieces. The quiet neighborhood could not have been more convenient, a very short walk to the Plaza and a short drive to the extraordinary museums on Museum Hill. We will be back!

    Response from Virginia:

Thanks Carl, it was very interesting talking to you about the some of the history in NM. I was also very interested to learn from your sweet wife that your niece's TV series, "Chasing Life" will be running on ABC family starting in June. I will be sure to watch. When you come back, I know you all will keep busy taking in the rest of the museums and places of interest. Until then . . . hasta la vista!

Gracias, Pam. It was fun hosting you and your family. You just missed the snow. In fact, it is still snowing and the city looks beautiful. It is a great idea to travel with the family around the holidays. We'll have to try that some day. Remember, "mi casa es su casa." if you return to Santa Fe.
