About this listing
A comfortable and quiet cottage located a discrete distance behind a private home in a family neighborhood. Convenient to downtown Palo Alto. Grocery and coffee shop close by. Ample parking next to the front door.
The cottage is in a quiet neighborhood of single family homes. It is a block away from a green grocer with great take out burritos, a charming coffee shop/cafe with free wifi, as well as a dry cleaner.
Sleeping is on a queen sized bed as well as a queen sized futon. You may be concerned about sleeping on a futon. I was too until I found one that I would be comfortable on, so I shopped carefully in order that my guests would be comfortable. And it's very simple to set up--no heavy lifting.
Extra features include free off street parking, wifi, Directv and Apple TV. Outside you can enjoy the swing under the trellis or barbecue on our grill.
The house is 20 minutes by freeway to either San Francisco International Airport or San Jose Mineta Airport.
Rental includes access to the entire cottage, parking spot for one car as well as the hot tub spa.
* Please note; When the cottage is rented together with the house renters have access to both properties. As a result I ask $100 more than the listed price for the cottage.
In order that we ensure the cottage is properly prepared, your hosts would appreciate being notified of your arrival time. It is also helpful to know your departure time.
Your host will be happy to make dining suggestions, help with directions, or simply leave you alone.
This is a pleasant neighborhood with friendly neighbors, many of whom work in technology professions. There are no issues with barking dogs or noisy or neighbors.
Located within 5 minutes to the 101 freeway. Public bus service to downtown Palo Alto and beyond is two blocks away. The bus also connects to the Palo Alto CalTrain station, or, if you prefer, a 20 minute walk. It is located next to downtown Palo Alto across from Stanford University. CalTrain operates between San Jose and San Francisco. Depending upon which train is taken the trip to San Jose can be between 20 minutes and 40 minutes. To San Francisco the trip is either 30 minutes or one hour.
I'm inclined not to book the cottage more than a couple weeks in advance. If you see that it isn't available but would like to make an inquiry you are welcome to do so.
Rental includes access to the entire cottage, parking spot for one car as well as the hot tub spa. Two bicycles (men's and women's) are available for your use.
Interaction with guests
In order to make check in as easy as possible we have arranged for you to do so without assistance. Of course if you need help we will gladly provide it, but for the most part we like to give you privacy.
Other things to note
*I'm inclined not to book the cottage far in advance. If you see that it isn't available but would like to make an inquiry you are welcome to do so.
Guests will be expected to respect the privacy of the neighbors as well as my tenant who has an apartment at the rear of the property. Large noisy parties are strictly forbidden. This is a residential neighborhood with neighbors who expect quiet after 10:00pm. All outdoor conversation must be ended at that time. When arriving late at night please be considerate of our neighbors and keep noise to a minimum. If you cannot agree to these conditions please select another Airbnb property.
We are a no smoking, no pets house. Not because we dislike those who smoke or have pets. We just want fewer issues for the most number of guests.
It would be appreciated if unneeded lights were turned off when leaving the house as well as when in the house. In the ongoing California water shortage a wise use of water is encouraged.
When leaving please refer to the check out instructions in the house.
Cancel up to 24 hours before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.

My wife and I raised two children in Menlo Park where we have lived for the past 22 years. We enjoy living here and think you'll be pleased to stay here as well. My wife Pam was an executive for a large non-profit organization and I took photographs for magazines and Silicon Valley corporations. Both of us are now retired and look forward to travel and staying at other Airbnb rentals.
