Cottage near downtown Palo Alto

Other - Entire home/apt · Central Avenue, Menlo Park, CA 94025, United States

A cozy and quiet cottage located a discrete distance behind a private home in a family neighborhood. Convenient to downtown Palo Alto. Grocery and coffee shop close by.

The Space

The cottage is in a quiet family neighborhood, but its a block away from a green grocer with great take out burritos, a charming coffeeshop/cafe, as well as a dry cleaner.

You may be concerned about sleeping on a futon--I was too because I also stay here when my house is rented out, so I shopped carefully in order that my guests would be comfortable. And it's very simple to set up--no heavy lifting.

Extra features include free off street parking, DVD player, and Apple TV. Outside you can enjoy the swing under the trellis in the back yard or the warm and relaxing hot tub.

The house is 20 minutes by freeway to either San Francisco International Airport or San Jose Mineta Airport.

Guest Access

Rental includes access to the entire cottage, parking spot for one car and hot tub spa.

Interaction with Guests

In order that we ensure the cottage is properly prepared, your hosts would appreciate being notified of your arrival time. It is also helpful to know your departure time.

Your host will be happy to make dining suggestions, help with directions, or simply leave you alone.

Getting around

Located within 5 minutes to the 101 freeway. Public bus service to downtown Palo Alto and beyond is two blocks away. The bus also connects to the Palo Alto CalTrain station, or, if you prefer, a 20 minute walk. It is located next to downtown Palo Alto across from Stanford University. CalTrain operates between San Jose and San Francisco. Depending upon which train is taken the trip to San Jose can be between 20 minutes and 40 minutes. To San Francisco the trip is either 30 minutes or one hour.

  • The cottage was a great place to stay. It's in a nice neighborhood with a great coffee shop and market. Stocked with goodies in the kitchen and bathroom. The AppleTV was great. The futon is a nice one but you do have to sleep to one side or fall into the little dip in the middle–can't really help that with futons. But it was totally fine for me. It's close to bus stops, so it's pretty easy to get to/from downtown and the train station.

  • This cottage is in a great location; just a little walk away from University avenue. The futon is, in fact, very comfortable and we had a very nice stay here. Bob and his wife were very friendly and respectful.

  • The cottage is super comfortable, clean and tidy. Great that it has Apple-TV. And the hot-tub was roomy and ready to use. Very nice!

  • This was a great place to stay for a short-notice business trip to Palo Alto. The cottage is thoughtfully furnished and stocked with everything you need to feel at home. The wi-fi is fast, and the location is in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Bob was an extremely gracious host; he even gave me a ride to work! Thank you a pleasant stay.

  • Very nice little cottage with just enough room for one or two people. Very convenient to a market, coffee shop, greek deli, and bus routes. Quiet neighborhood, too.

  • Great place - great location - EZ access to Palo Alto. Bob and his wife are excellent hosts. I needed an iron on short notice and they invited me in to their house and set me up with an iron right away.

  • Bob's cottage was perfect for my needs. Prior to my arrival, Bob sent me a map to the cottage, which turned out to be quite important to finding the place at night. Bob put a welcoming note on the door so that I would be sure I was in the right place. The cottage is cozy and quiet, in a very residential area (although there is a small supermarket just 1.5 short blocks away). Although it's in Menlo Park, it's a 5-minute drive to the heart of Palo Alto. The place had everything I needed and is just the right size for a single traveler. I was somewhat apprehensive about sleeping on a sofa futon, but it turned out to be very comfortable. Bob was easy to communicate with overall. I would definitely like to stay here again.

About
My wife and I raised two children in Menlo Park where we have lived for the past 22 years. We enjoy living here and think you'll be pleased to stay here as well. My wife Pam was an executive for a large non-profit organization and I took photographs for magazines and Silicon Valley corporations. Both of us are now retired and look forward to travel and staying at other Airbnb rentals.
