A comfortable and quiet cottage located a discrete distance behind a private home in a family neighborhood. Convenient to downtown Palo Alto. Grocery and coffee shop close by. Ample parking next to the front door.

The space

The cottage is in a quiet neighborhood of single family homes. It is a block away from a green grocer with great take out burritos, a charming coffee shop/cafe with free wifi, as well as a dry cleaner.

Sleeping is on a queen sized bed as well as a queen sized futon. You may be concerned about sleeping on a futon. I was too until I found one that I would be comfortable on, so I shopped carefully in order that my guests would be comfortable. And it's very simple to set up--no heavy lifting.

Extra features include free off street parking, wifi, Directv and Roku TV. Outside you can enjoy the swing under the trellis or barbecue on our grill.

The house is 20 minutes by freeway to either San Francisco International Airport or San Jose Mineta Airport.

Rental includes access to the entire cottage, parking spot for one car as well as the hot tub spa.

* Please note; When the cottage is rented together with the house renters have access to both properties. As a result I ask $100 more than the listed price for the cottage.

In order that we ensure the cottage is properly prepared, your hosts would appreciate being notified of your arrival time. It is also helpful to know your departure time.

Your host will be happy to make dining suggestions, help with directions, or simply leave you alone.

This is a pleasant neighborhood with friendly neighbors, many of whom work in technology professions. There are no issues with barking dogs or noisy or neighbors.

Located within 5 minutes to the 101 freeway. Public bus service to downtown Palo Alto and beyond is two blocks away. The bus also connects to the Palo Alto CalTrain station, or, if you prefer, a 20 minute walk. It is located next to downtown Palo Alto across from Stanford University. CalTrain operates between San Jose and San Francisco. Depending upon which train is taken the trip to San Jose can be between 20 minutes and 40 minutes. To San Francisco the trip is either 30 minutes or one hour.

I'm inclined not to book the cottage more than a couple weeks in advance. If you see that it isn't available but would like to make an inquiry you are welcome to do so.

Guest access

Rental includes access to the entire cottage, parking spot for one car. Two bicycles (men's and women's) are available for your use.

Interaction with guests

In order to make check in as easy as possible we have arranged for you to do so without assistance. Of course if you need help we will gladly provide it, but for the most part we like to give you privacy.

Other things to note

*I'm inclined not to book the cottage far in advance. If you see that it isn't available but would like to make an inquiry you are welcome to do so.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 3PM

Guests will be expected to respect the privacy of the neighbors as well as my tenant who has an apartment at the rear of the property. Large noisy parties are strictly forbidden. This is a residential neighborhood with neighbors who expect quiet after 10:00pm. All outdoor conversation must be ended at that time. When arriving late at night please be considerate of our neighbors and keep noise to a minimum. If you cannot agree to these conditions please select another Airbnb property.

We are a no smoking, no pets house. Not because we dislike those who smoke or have pets. We just want fewer issues for the most number of guests.

It would be appreciated if unneeded lights were turned off when leaving the house as well as when in the house. In the ongoing California water shortage a wise use of water is encouraged.

When leaving please refer to the check out instructions in the house.

Bob is an excellent host. The cottage is beautifully decorated with lots of convenient and thoughtful touches. Bob provides an array of food and drinks. The bed is comfy and so is the futon. The area is very nice and close to everything. Bob is very nice and responsive. I highly recommend.

One of the best AirBnB's I've stayed in!

Our stay in Bob's cottage was nothing but pleasure. It was very cosy, and green backyard seemed very private despite the fact the house is located in the back of owner's house. I can recommend staying there and I definitely I would choose this Airbnb in the future. Also, the neighborhood is very nice with perfect (hidden in trees) playground for children nearby.

Great location: quiet neighborhood, close to University Ave and the campus. Easy, private entrance and pretty yard. Others were renting on site but all were quiet. Just needed a little dusting but otherwise welcoming. Great to have a private parking spot.

Bob and Pam are the ultimate super hosts and provide a full range of amenities. They welcomed me with refreshments after a long day of travel. We enjoyed the indoor cooking kitchen which is completely stocked to create meals and sat at the bistro table for outdoor dining. The grassy knoll around the cottage has pretty plantings, so is perfect to enjoy the gorgeous weather and relax on the swing or grill for dinner. We were able to use bikes during our trip to explore the pretty residential area and bike to Bayland Preserve. The hot tub was an extra perk after a long ride. Bob is right that the futon is very comfortable and the shower has great water pressure. The cottage is in the heart of Menlo Park and close to Palo Alto so lots to do! Bob is very thorough with communication and super speedy. OUr hosts were there with friendly faces to answer questions and ensure we were at home. What more can one ask for? Thanks Pam and Bob!

My wife Pam and I have lived in Menlo Park for the past 26 years. My wife Pam was an executive for a large non-profit organization and I worked as a photographer. Both of us are now retired and look forward to travel and staying at other Airbnb rentals. We also have an Airbnb in London. If you have plans to travel to London and would like to consider staying there please let us know.
