This sweet little apartment has its own entrance and is tucked behind our house which is an early Victorian period family house. We live in the main house out of the main holiday season - and so during off peak times we let the ground floor apartment. In the school holidays we let the apartment as part of a whole 5 bedroom house self catering rental.
The house has 2 lawns - one for the main house and a separate one for the ground floor apartment. Your lawn slopes down towards the Shore Road and the sea - but there is a small cul de sac road between the garden and the sea front. Your garden is private and you can soak up the sun or read a book in the shade of the huge ancient pine tree while listening to the sound of the waves on the beach.
The apartment is quite small and consists of the bedroom which has twin beds which can also be made up into one double bed on request. There is no room for an extra bed - scarcely room for a travel cot! There is a built in wardrobe with shelves for your clothes. Each bed has a bedside locker. Old fashioned TV which offers a variety of channels and a dvd.
The bedroom has French windows leading to a small south facing terrace with a view across the main house garden which slopes down to the Shore road and the sea.
The shower room has shower, hand basin and wc.
Kitchen is separated from the bedroom by a door. It has a hob, oven, sink, fridge and deep freeze. In the kitchen you might be able to hear voices from the main house kitchen as it is not sound proofed. The bedroom however is tucked away and very quiet.
Well behaved dogs are welcome. We charge £10. Please book your dog in advance.
You have your own private ground floor entrance to the apartment. The little stone terrace outside the French windows is yours. A small picket fence separates it from the main house.
You can park your car in front of the main house with our cars. On the far side of this is your private lawn sloping down towards the sea. You have exclusive use of this lawn - although it is not connected to the apt.
The main house lawn and swimming pool are only for the owners' use.
Interaction with Guests
We are not always present when the apartment is let but will make sure that everything is ready for your arrival. If we cannot meet you then we will make arrangements for you to get the key. We do like to know whether you would like the beds made up as twin beds or as a double so please can you be sure to give us this information so everything is as you would like it to be.
Stephen and Christine went above and beyond what we would ever expect of air bnb hosts. They were so kind even before we arrived at the venue, offering us detailed directions to get to the apartment and recommendations of places to eat and visit during our stay. I would highly recommend this apartment. Just a stones throw from the beach. A very quaint village (now my favourite part of the island) with some really beautiful walks to offer. We will definitely be back and Stephen and Christine's apartment will be top of our list!
I was immediately impressed with how fast Stephen was at responding to my messages and he was extremely helpful, providing detailed directions and offering us a lift if we needed it.
On arrival at the apartment I was amazed by the location, just a very short walk from the pebble beach in a very peaceful area. Stephen welcomed us warmly and showed us everything we might need to know to make our stay as pleasant and cosy as possible.
The apartment has a kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom that doubles up as a very nice living room. The appliances are 'vintage', but work well and we enjoyed cooking dinner in the evening. Stephen offered us a lift into Ventor to pick up supplies and we were very grateful for that.
We're sorry that we were only staying for one night and we'd love to come back again as soon as we can.
Thank you Stephen for taking such good care of us and making sure we had all the information we needed for a successful day of walking when we left.
I had the most fabulous stay at the Dolphins. Stephen was a perfect host making sure we had everything, including recommendations of where to eat. The shed selling freshly caught fish on Ventnor esplanade had the nicest fresh crab I've ever eaten. The flat is 2 minutes from the sea front, which can be seen from the flat, providing excellent access to the coastal path in both directions which was good for a run and a walk. The flat is nice and cosy with all necessities; I would definitely recommend it and the whole place has a wonderful ambience. I would recommend booking the ferry as we spent a longer time in Portsmouth than we had planned.
My best stay in England so far! Stephen and Christine are a lovely couple and everything was just perfect. The apartment is actually a separate place attached to their wonderful 19th century house and you also have a little piece of garden you can enjoy when it's sunny (seaview included!) It's all clean and nicely decorated. There was also a little private terrasse in front of the bedroom. Basics for breakfast were even included. What can you ask more? I highly recommend you to stay at their house.

I am a landscape photgrapher specialising in large scale images of the Alps and mountain scenery around the world. I also have a large quantity of images of the Isle of Wight as well as South America and the Himalayas.
You will find my framed pictures hung all round the house and also in the ground floor apartment! If you would like to look at my website why not click on my Stephen Lee Mountain Photography website.
I recently qualified as a CELTA English language teacher and have been busy teaching at a language college this summer. So if English is not your native tongue and you would like to improve your English - maybe we could combine some one to one lessons with your stay on the Isle of Wight !
I am a keen skier and mountaineer but also a very keen cyclist.
I am teaching myself to play the guitar and starting to write my own songs!
I am a new host with airbnb so am hoping that this system works well for us. I have been letting the main house with 4 bedrooms for several years now so have plenty of experience in hosting guests.
