Mulawarman Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Mulawarman is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali - scenic rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, palaces, and amazing restaurants (cheap local Indonesian, raw food, vegan, organic etc.). Our central location in Ubud makes it easy to get to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.

For those who want to discover an "Authentically Balinese" luxury guest-house still preserved from the "tourist invasion" and which, according to the guidebooks, is one of the best places in town, come to Mulawarman. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Ubud is nestled in the green folds of countryside carpeted with terraced rice fields and carved by deep river gorges. Despite the increase in tourism Ubud conforms the image of being an example of the place where tourism development is harmoniously integrated into the village life.

Guest access

Guest will have access to the shared reading room upstairs in the main building and a shared eating area. There are no refrigerator in the rooms, but if you need to leave something in the fridge you can use the kitchen fridge.

Interaction with guests

Ibu Wayan will be at the guest house to greet you or one of her staff. She will also make a delicious breakfast in the morning too for you. So yes, Ibu will be around to help you with anything you might need. Though I should tell you Bali has many Ceremonies all year round, so if Ibu Wayan is gone . She is either preparing for a Ceremony or going to one.

Other things to note

We have internet, but do to our location setting -lush greens. It is hit and miss. The best connection is in breakfast area. Saying that on good days it does work in your room. :)

The only house rules we have are to be mindful to us, to other guests , to the environment , and to yourself. Please be aware we have Wifi but, can be hit and miss on some days. But, don't worry there are many cafes near by with wifi. I also would like to let you know we are in the middle of construction on a second building next door to our rooms, where we will have a restaurant and a couple of new rooms. At this time construction has STOPPED for the time being, so NO NOISE , but there is a building half done. Because of this we have taken 10% off of our normal prices for rooms at this time.
When it comes to smoking, we would like it done outside on your Balcony and not in your room.

Ibu and her family are very warm and inviting!  Our stay at Mulawarman was very comfortable. We had the upstairs room number 2. We arrived quite late in the night as our flight was delayed but Ibu and her husband stayed back and prepared nice hot, piping dinner for us and waited till we settled into our room. We had wonderful pancakes and fruit plate for breakfast and you can also ask Ibu to prepare a simple dinner for you. Ibu provided us with a friendly driver for sightseeing. We were treated like family by Ibu and felt very at home. Will definitely visit Mulawarman again when in Ubud. Note :  The Royal Palace and Monkey Forest are closeby. You can also watch the Fire/ Kecak dance performed not far away from here.

Location is very good, so you can explore Ubud and the area. You have your peace at night so you get a good sleep. In the morning you get a great breakfast from your host Ibu.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I was a solo traveller and it wasn't the place I have expected... It wasnt a easy walk to Ibu's place since you have to walk by a watercourse form 200m ( not recommend if you are bringing alot of luggages) It was extremely dark and scary when I walk home alone at night...Ibu though is absolutely nice and she prepared a dinner and breakfast for me. She charged me 130 USD for a Mt Batur sunrise trekking trip and a day tour around the rice terrace (which I think you can find better price in ubud city) The room is not as clean as the photos... there are stains and holes on the mosquito nets... tiles around the bathtub is not clean... and I dont feel safe to have a standing shower since there is NO curtain on the big window (feeling abit exposed). NO wifi. All in all, It was a good experience to stay at a Balinese house. But this is not a place for people who is afraid of bugs, stains. It is an ok place for budget travellers.

Ibus place has been the best place me and my boyfriend visited in our 2,5 month travellingtime. It´s right in the middle of the city and the beautiful ricefields. Ibu is always making us breakfast, serving her famous chocolatebanana pancake and made us amazing balinese dinner-mostly vegetarian. The room is beautiful too, with a big comfy bed, bathtub and super clean! The best thing living there is that everyone who was there became Ibu´s children and we were a big family, having almost every meal together and did a lot of fun activities like tracking the volcano Mount Batur, joining hindu seremonies or playing drinkinggames at night. When I go to Ubud, I will always stay at Ibu´s place! Thank you so much Ibu for being a spiritual and loveable humanbeing!

First of all we have to say that Ibu was very friendly and welcoming and helped us with every issue we had. She even washed our laundry for free and the breakfast was very delicious. BUT the room didnt look like the pictures and the toilet didnt work poperly. The shower was directly next to the window in our room so it became a little bit uncomfortable sometimes. We (and also other guests) think the price is a little bit too high. We stayed there for one week so these things became a little bit obvious.

Thanks Ibu for making us a fabulous, scrumptious Xmas dinner, Mulawarman is definitely our home in Ubud and Ibu will always be our dear mother in Bali! Thanks for everything!
