About this listing
New Accommodation in Sheffield
Spacious and light double attic bedroom in Victorian terraced house, consisting of double bed, chest of drawers, hanging space, bedside table and desk and chairs. Tea / coffee making facilities, T.V. hairdryer and Internet access. House is fully double glazed with central heating.
We joined Airbnb last October and have had many guests since. Our house is situated in the superb Hunters Bar/Ecclesall Road area of Sheffield. There is an excellent range of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops all within 100 metres of the house. The universities, hospitals and city centre are all within walking distance though there is also an excellent bus service into the city.
We are also just round the corner from Endcliffe Park which leads onto Bingham Park and out into the Peak District (so a superb location for walkers).
Guests are welcome to use our sunny kitchen/diner with the usual facilities of kettle, microwave, oven etc. We will also be happy for you to use the washing machine if you need it . We include continental breakfast but guests can opt out of breakfast and save £5 per person per night.
We are: Rita, a part time worker in a local store and a keen dancer: and Mike, a self-employed musician, tutor/trainer and dry-stone waller. We enjoy meeting new people and providing information about our lovely city.
Please note - we have a fairly steep staircase, a small bathroom and live on a steep road where parking is not always easy. We also live in an area where there are a lot of students so it is occasionally lively which may not always be suitable for people wanting total peace and quiet during their stay. (Generally it is very quiet and peaceful!)
Guests will have access to the kitchen facilities and use of the washing machine. They are also welcome to use the small patio garden. They do have to share our bathroom.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy chatting with our guests and making them feel at home, but we also understand if you need space and rest after a long journey! Either way we are happy to try and answer any questions you may have about visitor attractions, local restaurants etc.
Welcome to Sheffield - 'the world's largest village' it was once described to me when I first started working here. The friendliness and humour of the city isn't just a cliche. We really love our little neighbourhood of Hunters Bar, having moved here in February 2013. It manages to encapsulate the best the city has to offer, with lively cosmopolitan life the length of Eccleshall Rd right to the city centre; yet you can also pull your boots on at our front door and walk straight through the parks and woods into the Peak District, up onto the start of the Pennine Way (if only our old knees were up to it now!)
We have thriving live music pubs within walking distance, a great jazz club a short walk away on Wednesday nights, the best Irish music sessions this side of Dublin at the legendary Fagan's, sophisticated wine bars and eateries, theatres including the wonderfully miniscule Lantern Theatre in adjoining Nether Edge - I could go on and on (and he frequently does! - Rita). Come and see for yourself!
The bus routes to and from the city are excellent and run every few minutes down Eccleshall Rd, making it easy to get to our house if you get off at the Hunters Bar roundabout. Friendly locals will usually help if you're not sure. There is on road parking at our house but it is frequently full and you may have to park further up the road. We are on a steep hill so not so good in snowy weather.
No smoking indoors please. You are welcome to smoke in the back garden or our covered passageway.
Rita and Mike were very welcoming and flexible about arrival times. The room at the top of the house was excellent; clean, tidy and spacious. A steep but safe stair down to a very pleasant bathroom/toilet. They were very hospitable and I slept well. It was also a pleasant walk to and from the University (though I could've caught the bus if I had wanted to). Oh and the breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended.
Great hospitality, big bright room and a quality mattress.
I highly recommend staying here for business or holidays.
Rita and Mike are very friendly hosts company and gave me great local advice on nightlife and things to do in Sheffield. It's just a short bus ride into the city centre, half an hour's walk, or £6 in a taxi. The house is located in a great neighborhood with nice bars and restaurants. I'll return to stay again, next time I'm in Sheffield.
Rita was a very welcoming host. Despite booking last minute, she was able to accommodate my stay. Her house is in an excellent location with many stores nearby. The attic room is huge and very clean, with a comfy bed and study desk. The kitchen is very nice with garden.
Rita and Mike are great to stay with! They are both really friendly and made me feel at home. The room was comfortable as well.
In addition, Mike is an excellent cook.
Rita and Mike made us feel totally welcome in their home and the room was large and comfortable; a perfect place to relax after a long day in the peaks.
The location of their house is perfect for those wanting to experience both the city of Sheffield and the natural beauty of the Peaks, with Stanage edge only a 20 minute drive away. There are tens of restaurants within walking distance and Rita and Mike are also happy for you to cook in their kitchen.
Overall, we had a wonderful long weekend and hope to be back again soon.
Rita and Mike were extremely friendly and helpful hosts and were very understanding of my unpredictable work schedule. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and I would highly recommend staying here. Thank you for your hospitality.
Clean, warm, comfortable, welcoming. I enjoyed my stay. Thank both Mike and Rita. I hope to see you again.
About the Host, Rita
I have a background in both the public and voluntary sectors. I have worked in community education; support worker at a women's training scheme; manager of a local home-start scheme and a volunteer co-ordinator. After being made redundant and enjoying a little time to myself, I have now started working in the retail industry at a local food store for a large supermarket chain' I love music and dancing, e.g Lindy Hop and Swing, Jive, Tango and Salsa. I also like to go to the local gym. I enjoy food, drink, cinema, theatre and generally socialising.
I live with my partner Mike who is a musician, a trainer and an occasional dry stone waller. He also enjoys socialising ( when he is not busy at gigs) He also enjoys running and sometimes I persuade him out dancing!
