The Space

New Accommodation in Sheffield
Spacious and light double attic bedroom in Victorian terraced house, consisting of double bed, chest of drawers, hanging space, bedside table and desk and chairs and tea / coffee making facilities. Internet access is available. House is fully double glazed with central heating.

We have fairly recently joined Airbnb, so come and be the next guests to stay with us! Our house is situated in the superb Hunters Bar/Ecclesall Road area of Sheffield. There is an excellent range of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops all within 100 metres of the house. The universities, hospitals and city centre are all within walking distance though there is also an excellent bus service into the city.

We are also just round the corner from Endcliffe Park which leads onto Bingham Park and out into the Peak District (so a superb location for walkers).

Guests are welcome to use our sunny kitchen/diner with the usual facilities of kettle, microwave, oven etc. We will also be happy for you to use the washing machine if you need it . We include continental breakfast and tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

We are: Rita, a part time volunteer coordinator and keen dancer: and Mike, a self-employed musician, tutor/trainer and dry-stone waller. We enjoy meeting new people and providing information about our lovely city.

Please note we have a fairly steep staircase, a small bathroom and a rather timid cat! We also live in an occasionally lively student area which may not always be suitable for people wanting total peace and quiet during their stay. (Generally it is very quiet and peaceful!)

Interaction with Guests

We enjoy chatting with our guests and making them feel at home, but we also understand if you need space and rest after a long journey! Either way we are happy to try and answer any questions you may have about visitor attractions, local restaurants etc.

The Neighborhood

Welcome to Sheffield - 'the world's largest village' it was once described to me when I first started working here. And the friendliness and humour of the city isn't just a cliche. We really love our little neighbourhood of Hunters Bar, having moved here in February 2013. It manages to encapsulate the best the city has to offer, with lively cosmopolitan life the length of Eccleshall Rd right to the city centre; yet you can also pull your boots on at our front door and walk straight through the parks and woods into the Peak District, up onto the start of the Pennine Way (if only our old knees were up to it now!)
We have thriving live music pubs within walking distance, a great jazz club a short walk away on Wednesday nights, the best Irish music sessions this side of Dublin at the legendary Fagan's, sophisticated wine bars and eateries, theatres including the wonderfully miniscule Lantern Theatre in adjoining Nether Edge - I could go on and on (and he frequently does! - Rita). Come and see for yourself!

Getting around

The bus routes to and from the city are excellent and run every few minutes down Eccleshall Rd, making it easy to get to our house if you get off at the Hunters Bar roundabout. Friendly locals will usually help if you're not sure.

  • I came to Sheffield in order to visit my daughter at uni and was looking for a cosy place near the students' hall. Rita's room was exactly that! It was beautifully made up and Rita and Mark could not have been more welcoming. The bed was comfy, the breakfast more than ample and the chat over tea and coffee real fun. Parking the car in the street was a great bonus. I will definitely return for my next visit in 2014!

  • Thanks Rita - everything was good about our stay - flexibility about time in collecting the keys, coziness of the room (that's also modern and quiet), banquet breakfast, and enjoyable / friendly chat. We'll certainly be in touch next time we're in Sheffield! Best Wishes, Geoff and Lucy

  • Rita and Mike are great hosts! They are very welcoming and helpful in giving tips. The house was pretty and clean and the breakfast that rita provided us was delicious:D It was a very good experience and I definitely recommend to stay with them.

  • Rita and Mike are very warm, friendly people and wonderful hosts. They really couldn't do enough to make my stay pleasant and comfortable. For example, Mike very kindly took my bag up to and down from the room; they made sure to offer an extra heater and extra blankets when the weather turned quite cold; and they provided a very generous breakfast. They have a good knowledge of interesting things to do in the area. I also enjoyed spending time chatting and getting to know them.

The room is spacious and very pleasant, and the bed is very comfortable. The stairs up to the attic are quite steep though (as the listing states), so keep that in mind.

Otherwise, if you are visiting Sheffield, I certainly recommend staying at Rita and Mike's place!

I have a background in both the public and voluntary sectors. I have worked in community education; support worker at a women's training scheme; manager of a local home-start scheme (email hidden)-ordinator. After being made redundant and enjoying a little time to myself, I have now started working in the retail industry at a local food store for a large supermarket chain' I love music and dancing, for instance lindy and swing, jive, tango and salsa. I also enjoy cooking, eating and socialising, and get to the gym regularly in between! I live with my partner Mike who is a musician, trainer and dry stone waller. He enjoys running (when he's not too tired!) and I sometimes persuade him out dancing!
