You'll enjoy the full privacy (separate entrance from the main house) and it's location in a charming part of San Jose, minutes away from Santa Clara University, the SHARKS stadium, and great shopping! The unique cottage setup includes a separate bedroom area with a huge, walk-in closet, and a combined living room and kitchen area. In the living room, you'll enjoy the comfortable convertible couch, a desk/eating area, and a mini-kitchen, complete set of dishes.
The cottage ideal for female professionals, grandparents coming in to see their local families, moms traveling with their kid(s), and women who want to enjoy a quiet retreat! The queen-sized bed is comfortable and modern. The couch in the living room turns into a second queen bed. All bedding and towels are brand new and high quality. There's also a desk (+ internet) for you to get some work or studying done, plus a TV with plenty of Direct TV channels.
While not equipped with a full-kitchen, we include dishes (paper + glass) and kitchen appliances, including a refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee machine. Also note that there are two garden areas, one is private for you, and the second is shared with the main house. The last perk is the HUGE walk-in closet that that can fit suitcases and plenty of clothes and shoes :-)
We are located a few minutes walk away various take-out restaurants (Thai, Indian, Japanese, Italian, etc) -- our guests have been very happy with the food options in Willow Glen. There's also a Pete's Coffee, great pizza (Willow Street Grill), Jamba Juice (smoothies) and a Crapevine, (Within about 7 minutes by car, you’ll be in downtown San Jose or at the doorstep of several popular companies (IBM, eBay, PayPal, Adobe and more ). Are you a shopper or foodie? High-end shops (Louis Vuitton, Nordstroms, Lulu Lemon, H&M, etc) and dining (Including steak houses and live music at El Jardin Tequila Bar) can be found at Santana Row / Valley Fair Mall. You can get there by car in 10 minutes or by cab for ~$10. Other nearby facilities are San Jose State (8 minutes by car), the new 49er stadium (10 minutes away) and the San Jose Airport (~$15-25 cab fare or 15 minutes away).
Care to explore other parts of the Bay Area? Don't miss the drive to Santa Cruz (about 35 minutes away), and continue up Hwy 1 to San Francisco for BEAUTIFUL coastal day-trip. You can also drive to San Francisco directly in about 1 hour, or take the CalTrain to from downtown San Jose to downtown San Francisco (~1 hr).
Upon arrival, you'll meet Victoria, the property manager (and good friend of mine). We hope you'll relax, unwind, and enjoy the warm weather in this spacious retreat in the heart of Silicon Valley!
The cottage is optimal for female professionals, retired people visiting local relatives and small families. We've cleaned out all closets, shelves, etc- so you don't have to feel like you're living in someone else's space. We want you to feel fully at home!! This is a quiet community: Absolutely no smoking, no partying and no drugs. Street parking is available for our guests, however please pay special attention not to block neighboring driveways.
The kitchen area does not have a sink or a stove, however it does have a microwave and coffee maker. We provide a small tub so you don't have to worry about doing dishes. A kitchen sink will be added, but is not complete at this point. A wash and fold laundry facility is conveniently located 1-block away to satisfy your cleaning needs. If you prefer coin operated laundry, there is one less than 1/2 mile away. For longer stays (over 1 month), we can discuss whether you'll need additional kitchen appliances to make your stay even better.
Because the cottage is in the back and is a little tricky to find at night, we ask that our guests arrive by 10pm. We can try to accommodate a later check-in from time to time, but it may incur a late check-in charge of $40 if we need to wake someone up :-/ We don't have a lock-box option on this listing because we want to make sure our guests get in safely, access the cottage through the right door, etc.
The main house is occupied by a nice family, and we manage the house on their behalf. Please enter on the side entrance by the driveway and park on the street. Thanks for understanding or house rules and we look forward to welcoming you.
Can't say enough good things about the cottage. Fit my needs perfectly. Everything at the space has been considered for someone traveling. Super comfortable and clean. Also the snacks were much appreciated. Thank you and hope to be back soon.
Amanda made me feel very welcome. The self contained apartment behind the main house is modern, clean private and is located in a very quite part of town. Short walking (Yes you can walk in CA) distantace from shops, restaurants, bars and caffes and only a short drive to reach SJ main town centre.
A must have for a Brit, there is even an Indian restaurant at the top of the road which was quite good!
Next time I stay in the Bay Area I will skip the hotel and book Amanda's place. Great value!
We had a great experience! The cottage was the perfect size and convenient to many shops and restaurants. It is very clean and comfortable. Amanda and her crew were very helpful and considerate of our one year old daughters needs. We recommend this cottage!
Thank you Jacqui and Amanda for the pleasant monthly stay in the Willow Glen cottage. The location for easy access to downtown shops and services is exceptional.
The host is actually Amanda's friend, but both Jacqui and Amanda were easy to reach and helpful. The neighborhood is in walking distance of the Willow Glen shopping area which is a fun area to walk around with great restaurants. Jacqui also provides a binder with a guide to the good restaurants and if they delivered which was really nice!
Our only issue was with dish washing. The only sink was a bathroom sink which made washing dishes tedious, but Jacqui provides disposable plates/bowls/silverware to lessen the difficulties associated with that and the only challenge is washing glasses and mugs. I didn't realize we were renting a renovated garage behind the house Jacqui also rents out, but it was very cozy and it felt very secure. Parking is a little tight because the renter of the other property gets the driveway spot, but as long as you can parallel park and time it right it's not a big deal because there was usually at least one street spot. Overall a good experience!
The accommodations were very good. The bed was comfortable along with complementary food. The only trouble is that it might be a little hard to park next to the space due to other residents parking there instead, although they aren't supposed to do that.
Our Host made us feel most welcome. There were plenty of snacks and amenities to make us comfortable. The bed was great. Both my wife and myself did not get any akes or pains. The room was very clean and we had nice hot water for bathing whenever we needed it.
Parking was a little trickey but the host gave us tips that made it very managable.

I work in tech and am fortunate to have lived in London for 4 years, back when mobile technologies were first taking off. I've traveled extensively, and have grown to appreciate a good host! When I'm not hard at work, (or traveling), I'm usually found engaging in outdoor adventures, such as snow skiing, water skiing, road biking, or spending quality time with friends.
I've been a landlord for 8 years, and I am regularly hosting out-of-town guests, especially international visitors. I firmly believe that staying in someone's home in a nice neighborhood beats Starwood or Hilton Hotels ;)
Because I enjoyed the Airbnb experience so much, in addition to renting my home in Menlo Park, I'm also managing my good friend Victoria's and her neighbor's guest houses in San Jose and my friend Debbie's house in Tahoe. We all used to work for the same company and have found that by working together, we can provide the best experience for our guests! Same quality, efficiency, communication process, etc. plus we've already learned all of the tips/conveniences and can apply it to multiple properties.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Bay Area or Tahoe. All five properties are well-located, quiet, charming and family-friendly with friendly hostesses and a personal touch to make your stay a pleasant one!
