Loft Downtown, facing the mountain

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Avenue du Mont-Royal Ouest, Montreal, QC, Canada

Open & quiet loft, with view at 180 degrees of the mountain without "vis-à-vis". Direct sunlight, oriented South with sunset. The building is secure and clean, and has an elevator. Direct view of Mont-Royal when lying in bed.

The Space

This loft has more to offer than an open-space living space with a bed. It is a very inspiring home and working place as well, an industrial/commercial building full of artist living spaces, multidisciplinary small businesses (graphic designers, costume designers, architects, movie editors and new media post-production companies, etc).

Guest Access

The loft includes a bath, stove, fridge, washing machine, espresso coffee machine, double bed, basic furniture, heating and fan.
The bath is next to the window and elevated so one can take a dip and admire at once Montreal's downtown cityscape, the Mont-Royal mountain and the sky (sunny, cloudy or starry). One is free to take baths every day. Yet, please note that the bath can be tricky to access for anyone who cannot lift a leg. Also, it is an old clawfoot tub, so relatively narrow.
Please note: toilets are shared with a couple of daytime offices across the hall. I rarely come across anyone (twice a year). Toilets are daily cleaned, separate men and women and key accessible.

Interaction with Guests

Reservation: please make reservations at least 24 hours in advance.
Check-in / check-out: please inform me as soon as you know, of your expected time for check-in & check-out.

The Neighborhood

In the heart of downtown Montreal, of the trendy and dense Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood, next to Jeanne-Mance park and the Mont-Royal mountain. At intersection of major streets Mont-Royal and St. Laurent. 24/7 bars, restaurants and late grocery.

Getting around

5mn walk to the metro, access to 6 bus lines, 2 night buses.
Parking: In Montreal and in my neighbourhood, on-street parking is reasonably easy and safe. The chargeable period is: Monday to Friday 9AM-9PM/Saturday 9AM-6PM/Sunday 1-6PM. The rate in this hood (Plateau) is 2.50$/hour. Many guests informed me that quite a few free parking spots exist around the building.... Just read the signs.

Other Things to Note

Special note: this is a commercial building (former small clothing industry building) and not a residential building. It is very secure, there are hidden security cameras in the lobby and elevators, a janitor in the back. Do not expect a concierge at the entrance of the building. This is common in Montreal, a very secure city.
Also, at night and during week-ends, most of the building is empty, you might just meet no-one, or a few friendly faces (from different sport of social events), which means you can make a lot of noise but also it could be spooky for some. At that time, you need a special key to circulate in the stairs or go up or down the elevators.

  • Cecile was a great to deal with, and the loft is in a wonderful location!

    November 2012
  • Cécile is friendly, helpful, and perfectly reliable, and her loft is absolutely beautiful. It's larger than it looks, unique with an industrial chic, smartly furnished, has an incredible view and is in a great location. The only downside is that the toilet is across the hall, which makes it a bit lacking in privacy, but the rest of the place more than makes up for it and there is hardly anyone else on the floor, especially on weekends. Thanks for a great time!

  • Cécile has a wonderful loft that offers a truly unique Montreal experience. She was incredibly flexible and helpful in meeting us and providing information on the surrounding neighborhood. We were also able to find free parking (weekend) on St. Joseph Blvd fairly easily, only a few blocks away. Definitely recommended, we hope to come back sometime in the future!

  • We booked this place for our parents and communication with Cécile was very easy.
The place is big and very creative. The view is amazing. She was very accomodating for the check out. The area is perfect, close to everything you need.
Nothing to complain about. We recommend this place.

  • The apartment was great, central, and different from anywhere we had ever stayed. Cécile was very accomodating and check-in and out was smooth. It was perfect for our weekend get away in Montreal.

  • A true artist's residence. The apartment, well it had art everywhere. Anyway, it was very clean, the view was killer, and the location in the Plateau was extremely convenient for me. Cecile was kind and exudes enthusiasm for her city. She even sends her guests a guide with some of the best restaurants and sights in Montreal.

The only downside I see is that the building itself was a little odd. It's an office building so you don't really see many people on the weekends and it had a very sterile feeling to it.

  • Beautiful space, very unique and in a fantastic location. Cecile was very helpful and welcoming, giving us excellent tips about where to eat and shop in the neighborhood. This is a great spot to spend a weekend checking out Montreal, and if you are looking for somewhere to stay longer and have work to do, Cecile's loft would be perfect for that, too. The setup is a bit unconventional with the bathtub in the kitchen, but if you are on your own or not particularly shy, it's actually a fun novelty to take a bath with such a view. And the bathroom in the hall was never a problem. Very much recommend!

  • Fantastic loft! Innovative space with a great view, well located, and highly unique. Everything was provided as promised. If you're looking to stay in Montreal, look no further!

    August 2012
  • Cecile was an ideal host. She was relaxed and easy to communicate with, always responded to questions immediately and was very helpful. Her loft is situated in the heart of Montreal, close to all of the cool restaurants and shops. I cannot wait to return to Montreal in hopes that I can stay at Cecile's again!
