About This Listing
Beautifully appointed with art and custom furniture, a peaceful and airy refuge, you will be in walking distance of all the wonderful places and activities in the historical heart of Cuenca, yet nestled in a true neighborhood by Plaza San Blas.
Early 20th century construction, the apt is entire second floor of a walk-up, and features an elegant entry and center light- filled atrium with plants and colonial furniture, a lovely place for breakfast, and enjoying the solar warmth. All the rooms are spacious: the living room and dining room have a wall of windows that give onto the street with a plant filled balcony. The large kitchen is very well equiped, with a breakfast bar where I and my guests are supremely comfortable. The two bedrooms, with superior queen beds have private baths, and are located on the back, thus quiet. The furnishing were chosen with great care, and art, weavings and local pottery grace the apt.
The entire apt is yours. The apt is very secure. You enter from the street through the locked garage. Another locked door opens to the staircase. My apt spans the entire second floor.
Interaction with Guests
I love Cuenca and am learning more about the city and environs every day. I am delighted to share what knowledge I've gleaned. I have also collected quite a lot of printed tourist material for your perusal upon arrival.
My neighborhood of San Blas is part of historical El Centro, yet has a real local feel. Virtually anything you want is in a little shop within blocks, and shopkeepers are very friendly. I can share my favorite places and people. Parque Calderon, the dead center of downtown with the two famous cathedrals, is just a six block walk to the west..
Bus stops to anywhere in the city are within two blocks of the apt. Taxis are prolific. The apt is eminently convenient to so many places, that you will find yourself mostly walking, I suspect.
Other Things to Note
Once a week cleaning service is provided free of charge. Y my housekeeper Alexis.
I wish you to appreciate and respect my abode as I would yours.
Janet met us right on time (even though we were a bit late) and greeted us with warm smiles. The apartment was absolutely amazing! Spotless, a huge kitchen so I could cook our meals and tastefully decorated. The location just can't be beat, in the heart of the historical center. Janet helped us try to find a solution for parking our car and was available for any questions or problems we had. She sent us a great list of restaurants, museums and other general information for Cuenca which proved really helpful. My fiance, his best friend and I enjoyed our time in this beautiful city and the gorgeous environs. If you are looking for the perfect place to stay for your visit, look no further than Janet's place. Thanks so much Janet!
We had a wonderful time in Janet's apartment. It is very spacious and it's in a great location. Janet was a wonderful host, and was able to assist us with all our needs. We walked everywhere in the Historical Center and we had an excellent stay. We would love to go back to Cuenca; it is a beautiful place!
We had a lovely long weekend staying in Janet's apartment. Before we arrived Janet responded to all our enquiries promptly and had lots of recommendations of what to do around Cuenca. When our night bus unexpectedly arrive 2 hours earlier that anticipated at 6.15am on a Saturday morning (!) Janet came to let us in with a smile and showed us around the apartment and had many recommendations on where to get good coffee and breakfast, as well as where the nearest market is. The apartment is clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. It is also in an excellent location, we walked everywhere, except to the mirador which is a taxi ride away from the town centre.
We will definitely stay at Janet's again when we are back in Cuenca.
Janet was very welcoming, both in her communication before we moved in and when we arrived she had little extras ready for us (like a bowl of fresh strawberries!).
Janet's apartment represents outstanding value for money. It is located only a few blocks from Parque Calderon, the center of activity in the Historic Center and is in easy walking distance from many fine restaurants, bread stores, a supermarket and a place where one can have clothes washed for a nominal charge. It is surprisingly big, more than adequate for two couples. The apartment has a spacious kitchen (with everything you need for food preparation) and a comfortable living room. The bedrooms are in the back, away from the noises of the street. Once a week Janet pays for a maid to clean the apartment, a convenience we really valued. Although we did not meet Janet, she was very responsive to all of our emails. We had a temporary problem with the internet and it was immediately taken care of. She even provided fresh flowers twice during our month-long stay. A great pied-a-terre in Cuenca. Highly recommended, particularly for a long-term stay where one can spread out and feel at home.
Janet was an exceptional hostess. She accomodated our change of plans when we first arrived in cuenca with grace. She encouraged us to email or call her with any questions and gave us a detailed description of events and places we might want to go to during our two week stay. She invited us to her own home where we met many of her friends.
The apartment was beautiful, spacious and comfortable and well stocked with odds and ends you might need to feel at home. The bedrooms in the back of the apartment were quiet and cool--great places to sleep after long interesting days. It is conveniently located to many of the cities attractions and good restaurants. we could walk quickly most everywhere we wanted to go or take a cab for a nominal fee. we felt completely safe in the neighborhood--actually that was true in cuenca in general.
i would highly recommend staying at janet's apartment. we would have no hesitation about returning.
