We have been told that there is a romantic quality to spending the night in our luxury caboose, it is perfect for a couple to share an intimate evening together in a peaceful, private place. The setting and surrounding property lends itself to the creation of some unforgettable photography.
There are wild peacocks and a variety of other wild birds that over the years have found that our property is a "safe haven" to the point that one would think that they are almost domesticated pets. Hummingbirds, Parrots, Snowy egrets, Grey Herron's, Woodpeckers, Bluejays, Crows and Ravens, etc. A large variety of hawks and falcons live and hunt in the area and at night, you may hear the sounds of owl's calling to each other from the treetops.
My boyfriend and I had the most extraordinary stay with Douglas and Diana! Though we only had the chance to meet Diana briefly, Douglas was an incredible host, making us feel welcome and excited about his property and the caboose. We had the privilege of seeing a lot of his incredible artwork, fed bluejays and peacocks out of our hands, and had an all-around magical experience. The caboose itself was decadent and cozy, the bed super comfortable, etc. Diana and Douglas stocked the mini fridge and a welcome basket with delicious treats. We had planned to go out to dinner both nights of our stay but couldn't bring ourselves to leave this awesome property! I highly recommend staying in The Luxury Caboose to anyone who appreciates art, magic, and good-old fashioned hospitality!
My girlfriend and I came for a quick little stay-cation from Los Angeles, and loved the caboose! This location is amazing (do yourself a favor and eat at the Old Place restaurant while you're there). Douglas is a very gracious and thorough host. If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and interesting Southern California destination spot, this is sure it! Thanks for everything, Douglas.
This place is beyond description—the caboose itself is charming enough, but the local fauna, the storied town, and Douglas's fascinating artistic sensibility (moreover, his willingness to share it), mirable dictu, surpassed all expectations. We'll be back very soon.
Douglas was very attentive and helpful in making sure this trip was as smooth as possible. He was even went so far as to make reservations for us at the nearby restaurant, which was a short walk down the road. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cozy and unique getaway.
Douglas was an amazing host. He met us at the Old Place restaurant (a must if you are in the area) and led us to his property. He's a super cool guy with tons of amazing stories to tell and a very talented artist. Staying at his place was not only an amazing experience but a true inspiration. The caboose had a great layout and they provided you with everything you could possibly need and more. We were very comfortable and cozy. Many thanks Douglas!
Douglas was so nice! From the moment I arrived he was the perfect host, introducing me to the folks at the amazing restaurant down the street, making sure there was plenty of food on hand for picnics, and giving me a great guide to the area. Couldn't have spent a more pleasant and relaxing weekend. Also, the place is beautiful, both inside and out!! Not sure which was sweeter, the unbelievable sunsets or the incredibly comfortable bed. Can't wait to come back.
I highly recommend staying in the Luxury Train Caboose!!! My husband and I had such an amazing time. The Caboose is spacious and very comfortable. The location is perfect, close enough to the city and ocean to enjoy it's activities and far enough away to be feel like you are in a private oasis. The view and stargazing was so beautiful. We loved meeting the dogs, watching the hummingbirds, and even got to hand feed the peacocks. Diana and Douglas are not only fantastic hosts but really awesome people as well. You definitely don't want to miss out on this unique and wonderful experience!!!
What a unique experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the caboose. Diana and Douglas have done a wonderful job of furnishing the caboose to make it comfy and comfortable. They were wonderful hosts and did everything they could to make us feel at home, including stocking the caboose with tasty snacks and food for a continental breakfast.
If you have found this gem - take it! I surprised my boyfriend with a mini staycation and everything was above and beyond. The caboose is phenomenal and even better than the photos show. The bed is so comfortable! Douglas was incredibly kind and interesting and provided all kinds of cool literature for the caboose and area. Be sure to have dinner or breakfast at The Old Place and enjoy the snacks that are in the caboose. Book it, do it, live it, love it!
*Just note that the caboose does retain temperature. We were there in January so it kept the evening chill in the morning, we thought this meant it was cold outside but turns out it was lovely and warm. So just a heads up.
Diana and Douglas were fabulous hosts, and the caboose was perfectly charming and accommodating. It was a very special stay and made for a perfect birthday trip for my husband. We had such a nice time relaxing and unwinding deep in the canyon. We also enjoyed getting to know the town of Cornell and its history. The Old Place and Cornell Winery are steps away, and bot very cool places to visit. We will definitely be back to explore and enjoy the area again in the future.
