Description

The space

Thanks for your interest in my place! Please read my description here and my guidebook as many of the questions you may have are answered here.

Located right at the end of Shelter Island this quaint studio condo is perfect for the sailor or water lover. Within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, marinas, cozy coffee shops, yacht clubs, bay front walking trail, and even a Sunday farmer's market. Complex has a pool, game room with pool and foosball table, and a gym on the premises with plenty of free street parking. The unit has a queen murphy bed (real mattress with memory foam topper), and a pull out futon sofa, that is most comfortable for 1-2 people but could accommodate up to 3 if you don't mind getting cozy. Small fridge, microwave, and stove top for cooking. Flat screen TV and dvd player for movie watching. Large balcony with table and barbeque that look out onto the pool deck and bay.

The condo is located approximately 4 miles from downtown San Diego and the gaslamp district, 2 miles from San Diego airport, 4 miles from Sea World, across the street from the bay, and within 2 miles of Ocean Beach. A great central location with plenty of sites to see in beautiful San Diego! The trolley and Amtrak station is located conveniently 3 miles away in Old Town San Diego, making it very easy for rail travel, or even a Coaster trip up to north San Diego county. There are also plenty of bus stops close by and plenty of taxi access with all the hotels in the area.

Clean linens and a towel for each guest will be provided. Also there are plenty of shower toiletries available for your use if you prefer not to pack these types of items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, hairdryer). I have just recently done a mini remodel of my bathroom and have a brand new bathtub May 2014)!

Parking is on the street and does not cost any money, and there are usually many spaces right in front or on the street next to my complex.

New WIFI available with strong and fast signals!

If you need special consideration with check in/out times please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you.

Cheers!

The neighborhood

The surrounding neighborhood is a local sailing and fishing community with tons of restaurants, bar, coffee shops, and shops within walking distance. There are several yacht clubs and numerous marinas surrounding, which make for an excellent place for any type of boating. There is even a local farmers market on Sundays.

Getting around

Public transportation in San Diego a bit tough as major attractions are a bit spread out and only connected by a bus system (there is a trolley but only within limited areas). The bus is inexpensive but can be time consuming, so if you do not plan to rent a car be prepared to spend some time getting from point A to B. There is a bus stop 1 block from my place if you do decide to go the bus route.

Other things to note

Please take a look at the guidebook on my listing as this will provide you with basic info on many of the local spots and proximity to my place.

I had a great stay/experience staying in Karen's studio unit. My stay was for a month and everything was exactly as described in her listing. The area and location of the studio was perfect. Point Loma is a great area of SD. Only about 10 min drive to downtown and airport. Lots of great restaurants and bars within walking distance of the unit. Pummaro was me and my wife's favorite. It's an Italian restaurant, and we walked there to eat twice within a 5 day span. Shelter island is also close (good for walking/running and a nice view of the city from a distance.) I would definitely consider staying here again if I have another travel assignment in San Diego. And Karen was a great host. Checked in routinely and answered all my questions throughout in a timely manner. Great experience.

Had a great time at Karen's Studio Condo! It was a very cute and clean place, very close to everywhere we needed to get to on our trip. There are detailed instructions and information right by the door so that made it super easy. I especially loved the location, it was peaceful and very relaxing, great way to end my vacation in San diego!

We had a great trip to San Diego, and the condo was a huge part of that. It is perfectly located, within walking distance from many restaurants and bars and less than 10 minutes driving to and from the airport. Karen text me the day of our arrival to make sure that I had all the information I needed to get into the condo. We had arrived into San Diego early and were just hanging out at Ocean Beach, so she gave us some great food recommendations for the area. We were also given the go-ahead to check in early. The condo was exactly as described. I did miss on the Airbnb listing that there was no air conditioning, but that turned out not to be an issue at all. With the screen patio door open, the breeze from the bay keeps the condo very nice and cool. Thanks, Karen, for a great place to stay! We would definitely recommend it to people coming to San Diego and looking for a place outside of the hustle and bustle of the city.

It was a great stay in Karen's studio condo which is an excellent place located by the sea. It is very comfortable and clean. Karen was helpful and communicative. How Karen mentioned, I also highly recommend to use/rent a car to visit great places around like beaches, Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla area, Torrey Pines, SeaWorld, Balboa Park, etc.. Big choices of restaurants close to studio condo are great also.

My husband and I had the most amazing experience visiting San Diego and Karen's home was a perfect location for us to see everything on our list. Point Loma is a nice quite spot close to the pier. The apartment was accurately described. As we read through others comments we thought it'd be a tight squeeze; the apartment had more space than we expected. We brought 2 carry-on luggage & 2 backpacks - had plenty of spots to place them (we unpacked since we stayed for a week). It felt like staying at a friends home with all that she provided. The patio was a perfect place to work/read in front of the peaceful pool. There are a handful of restaurants within walking distance that we loved (Mexican, Italian, & a chocolate/dessert shop - all rated 4stars+ on TripAdvisor). There is also a local market and pharmacy within walking distance. For the first few days we explored nearby, including running to the end of the pier and stopping at the breakfast spot on the way back. Then we rented a car to get to other areas around San Diego. Parking was always close and easy to find near the apt. We visited Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, and Downtown multiple times. Uber was useful in moments we knew parking at the destination would be difficult, or if you don't have a car. We had some issues with the door keypad. It's electronic battery operated motor and the batteries were about dead. Karen dealt with it stupendously. It chose when to work and when not to work. We were never locked out from the apt though! Karen has a backup key and gives you the descriptions to get it in the confirmation email. Her boyfriend was her backup contact while she was traveling. He rescued us by replacing the battery and now the lock will be good for a long time.

Karen left a note for us explaining all our options. Bed was ready and the back was open to let the beautiful San Diego air and beach sounds. Beautiful decor and not the feeling of a stuffy hotel. Balcony allowed us to eat outside and enjoy San Diego.

Traveler in the wilderness of life. I operate under the mantra that LIFE IS SHORT and try to live each day accordingly. I jump at the chance to get out my backpack and hop on a plane to a foreign destination. Armed with some good tunes, books, sunshine, comfy pillow, and blanket and I could be happy on a remote island.
