Self check-in

Carleva Bay sits on a quiet beach frequented only by local fishermen. Enjoy snorkeling, wading, aerobics, yoga and watching the sunset. Close to nature and cultural sites. Ambiance, outdoor space, and locals are phenomenal. Great for couples, families, corporate retreats and other large groups.

The Carleva Center for Global Understanding was founded in 2003 as a home base for Edu-Tourism, a voluntourism-based NGO.

The basic price if for 1-2 people and increases for each additional person.

The space
A Jamaican-styled villa sitting on your own piece of Caribbean paradise! The life of the house is surely our beautiful open-aired courtyard. All of our bedrooms open onto the courtyard, each bedroom can hold several beds to accommodate large groups and comes equipped with full washroom facilities. The large front yard and beach front are fenced-in living spaces. Come read on our swing under our mango trees, and doze off to the sound of the ocean.

Guest access
You have access to the whole villa. The price is based on the number of people staying in the villa. The basic price is for no more than two people, who can each have their own room if so desired. Please let us know. There is an additional per person, per day charge beyond two people.
Cooking staff is available to hire upon request, and cater to various diet requests.

Other things to note
We don't have any pets. However, the next-door neighbor has dogs that sometimes get through the fence. They are not harmful, but please don't befriend them. A stray cat has been known to get into the kitchen at night. To prevent your things from being disturbed, make sure you close the kitchen door firmly (put a high stool on each side so the door can't be pushed open).

My husband Nelson and I are both retired and spend our time between Philadelphia, Jamaica, and (less often) Italy. I am Italian and Nelson is Jamaican. We bought this villa in 2003 as a center for our NGO, Edu-Tourism. We host some student groups who do volunteer work with local organizations (they tell us it's life-changing!) and love to help them explore the area and get to know its culture and its African roots. We know everything about Yallahs, St. Thomas, Portland (the next Parish), Kingston, and beyond and are happy to share it with you. We have at our (and your) disposal everything needed (transportation, staff, people to meet, sites to visit, musical/cultural groups) to help you have a wonderful experience and a memorable stay--whether you want to just relax, reconnect with family and local friends, become edu-tourists, or whatever. If you would like to include some volunteer work as part of your visit, we can make it happen: just tell us about yourself and give us some advance notice. The villa also has a small library, in case you want to read about local culture and history (as we do) or just some good novels.
