The Space

My home is located in the centre of Kensington Market, one of Toronto's most interesting, eclectic, and friendly neighbourhoods. On most visitors’ list of places to check out, the area often ends up being the highlight. The neighbourhood is home to a young, vibrant community of artists, musicians and activists and has nurtured a real sense of community.

Kensington is a unique place in Toronto, with a variety of cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and vintage stores to check out. Just outside the apartment you can find all kinds of specialty cheese stores, dried goods, bakeries, fruit and vegetable stalls, and food from around the world. You can walk around enjoying the atmosphere or hang out in nearby Bellevue Square Park. Chinatown is right around the corner and the University of Toronto, Art Gallery of Ontario and other attractions are within walking distance.

The market is always bustling with tourists and locals, and on weekends you can often find live music and performers on the street. If you happen to be here on the last Sunday of the month for Pedestrian Sunday (May-Oct), the market will be closed to cars and there will be a variety of musicians and performers lining the streets.

The apartment is in a new building and is set back from the bustle of the street. There is a full kitchen, a large private patio in the back, air conditioning, and a machine for laundry. Wifi internet is included. The room has a double bed (not the futon displayed in the pictures) with a very comfortable mattress. I provide sheets, towels, shampoo and soap. There is a city parking garage about 20m from my house and there is 24-hour access to the apartment keys on the day of your arrival.

I keep a vegetarian kitchen (dairy, eggs, and fish are OK) and a smoke-free house, although you can smoke on the patio. Please inquire about longer-term rates.

Note: Special rates apply for the last weekend of the month from May to September (for Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market). Please contact me for more information.

  • Sleeping room is pretty noisy, because of a neighbors air condition machine close to the window and it's also very hot in summer because there is no air condition in the apartment. If this is no problem for you, this is the perfect place for a stay in Toronto and everything is as described in all other comments. Very nice and helpful hosting, perfect location and great/clean apartment.

    Response from Jesse:

Just to clarify, my apartment does indeed have central air conditioning! I was out of town during Andreas' two-day stay (which I communicated to him in advance), so the only way I could have known he was unable to use the AC was if he had contacted me or my friend Cara, who I had asked to be available should he have any trouble. Unfortunately Andreas didn't tell either of us about the problem before checking out and leaving this review, but the AC will be available to future guests and I will always make sure someone is available to address any concerns my guests raise, which is why all my reviews to date have been positive!

  • Jesse was not at home, and he had another guest staying at his apartment. Jesse was clear and communicative. He provided excellent directions in a welcome packet. Cara hosted me in his absence. She lives in the apartment upstairs. We had interesting chats, and she was really hospitable. She shared information about he city and the area. Kensington Market is a great area, and its walking distance to a lot of great stuff. If you stay here you are within reach of a ton of stuff, and Toronto has a great bike share system.

  • I unfortunately didn't get to meet Jesse, but it was no concern as his good friend Cara looked after me.
The place is has everything you need and some! The location is great for buying plenty of fresh foods, and it's extremely easy to get to different points in the city.
I highly recommend staying with Jesse!

  • Great Place in Kensington Market, which is a vivid place at the edge of Chinatown, with lots of restaurants (not just asian), great connection to TTC (4 streetcar routes, 3 night Streetcar/bus lines), lots of great bars and small concert places. Great for people, who want to explore Toronto, and also for people, who are getting hungry late ;-)

Jesse is a very relaxed man with a nice appartment with a nice verandah, where you can sit out any time (unless it's raining).

If the place is available, I'll go back there for my next stay in Toronto...

  • Jesse's location in Kensington and his tenure on airbnb led me to give his apartment a shot. I couldn't have made a better choice! Jesse was very responsive to a few brief questions while the welcome packet he emailed me was extremely informative. He's a great guy. His apartment is truly right in the middle of the most interesting neighborhood in Toronto while being extremely quiet and clean. His neighbor Cara (also on airbnb) was also very kind and welcoming. I wish I were around for the weekend's festivities! I'm thankful to have chosen Jesse's place; highly recommend.

  • Unfortunately I met Jesse just a few minutes before I left but this was no problem because he prepared everything perfectly and gave me all the information how to get there and what can be done in the neighborhood. ...and there's lots to do. Kensington Market is a great place and I can recommend everybody to stay at Jesse's place ...or Cara's - Jesse's friend who is living just upstairs.
The room was nice and the bed very comfortable.

  • Jesse was really accommodating and had a great location. The information packet was helpful and covered every question we had. He was able to give us recommendations and made us feel welcome.

  • I stayed at Jesse's apartment for just one night. Thanks to Jesse's directions, I found the parking lot and his apartment in no time. Since it is in the heart of Toronto, if you come by car, you have to make sure you come from the right direction - most streets in the neighborhood are one way. I found Jesse's information packet very useful - my friends and I enjoyed food at the recommended restaurants. The guest bedroom was clean and the bed quite comfortable.

I'm a Canadian who recently moved to England for work. I've traveled extensively in over 50 countries and was born and raised in Toronto. I'm friendly and enjoy meeting people from other places. - I still have a great apartment in Kensington Market, which is one of the most diverse, interesting and community-oriented neighbourhoods around. I now live in the city centre of Newcastle, which is also a really amazing place with a lot of history, culture, nightlife and charm. - It's because I've been welcomed in so many places during my own adventures that I’m happy to offer a safe and comfortable place for fellow travelers and passers-by. This is also why I want to make sure my guests have everything they need to enjoy their stays in both Newcastle and Toronto!
