Merchanthouse Tangier 1898

Bed & Breakfast - Entire home/apt · Rue Naciria 73, Place Sakaya, Tangier, Tangier-Tetouan 9000, Morocco

In Tangier´s old medina you can rent rooms or the entire original merchanthouse built in 1898 in Moorish-Spanish
riad-style.Totally refurbished with love for detail and decor. There are 5 spacious rooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 receptionrooms, a diningarea, 4 terraces, sundeck, seaview and a kasbah to rock!

The Space

The house is quite unique for the medina because of it´s total surface of 300 m2 (excl de outsidespace) and most of all cause the interior is totally original (beautiful tiles, ceilings, doors, marble staircase, wooden floors, ornaments etc).
A couple of years ago Maison Arabesque is completely refurbished into a very comfortable place with lot´s light!! Almost all the furniture and lamps etc are handmade in Morocco and designed by a friend of mine Paul Lelieveld. The decor is contemporary in a lovely old and charming surrounding. You will be surprised how calm and peaceful it is once you are inside the house.

Guest Access

If you rent the house or one of the 5 rooms, you will enjoy your choice of rooms in privacy. There is also a receptionroom and loungecorner on the ground floor, a Moroccan salon on the first floor (books everywhere!), a workingarea with an Applecomputer ( an oldie) and free wifi throughout the house, outsidespace with 4 different terraces, a diningarea, a sundeck with sea-and kasbahview. On a clear day you can even see Spain!!

Interaction with Guests

As your host I will be at your service. Help you out with a little map, advise you where to go, to eat, to shop. If you want to make a cultural walkingtour and NO bazaarvisits I have a woman for you who works as a quide and speaks fluently English, French, Arabic and Spanish. If you want your private taxidriver. Mohamed who works for me a long time is very reliable. Dinner at home?? No problem Abdullah makes you a delicious Moroccan dish, salad, cakes.....all yummy.

The Neighborhood

The hous is located in a good neighborhood, a very safe area of the medina, close (2 minutes) to the main square ( the Grand Succo) with taxistops , ATM machines, restaurants.
Being in the medina you will feel the Moroccan buzz. Energy everywhere, shops for everybody.

Getting around

Taxi´s are nearby. But the best way to explore the city is just by walking around. In the medina you maybe get lost in all the little streets and enjoy the ambiance. Great experience!! But with a map and a little focus.......you will find your way easily!!! And if not just ask. Moroccans are very helpful and yes some of them like to drink a little coffee or tea with you.

  • Peter´s house is cozy and unique, in the very heart of Medina, with sunny terrace and amazing views on Tangier bay and roofs. Great breakfast also. Peter is nice and serious and his suggestions should always be followed. Just one downside: the pray call from the too-much-close-mosque at 5 a.m...unless you want a complete morocan experience!!!

About
I am Peter Van der Drift living in Tangier , Morocco, since 2006. Have a questhouse called maison Arabesque.....Before making this major change in my life I was working as a manager/consultant in the Netherlands based in Amsterdam. Now I split my time between those two cities but I love to travel around the world as well. Interested in art, architecture, (interior) design, literature , movies etc etc. As a people-person meeting new quests in the Merchanthouse from different cultures with different backgrounds is for me always truly interesting My motto is to enjoy life NOW. Cheers! Peter
