The space

A lovely textile handcraft and antique-filled sea view room in our home, with a double bed, day bed and seating area, shared bath and kitchen.

Our fishing village of Samatya is 'real' Turkish neighborhood, with no tourists or carpet touts. There is a great selection of reasonably priced good restaurants, bars, grocers, bakeries and a huge farmer's market each Saturday, all just a few steps away. Ancient history around each corner with monasteries, churches, mosques and the fortress of Yedikule and Theodosian Walls a short stroll away along our sideside park.

Easiest of all, take the frequent - every 5 minutes - bus to Sultanahmet and Sirkeci, only 10 minutes away. Or the nearby new M2 Metro to Taksim in 20 minutes. Then back to Samatya for a peaceful night, as you wish!

Note: we are happy to offer breakfast or laundry service for a small fee.

Catherine was a fantastic host. She was very helpful providing information for getting to the flat and finding out if I had any unmet needs after I arrived. Getting settled in for the first night's stay was more like catching up with an old friend than meeting a new one! Cathe…

Catherine and Abit were wonderful hosts! They helped us get a cab and the airport and not get ripped off. They were also very hospitable in explaining the new city to us and even showing us around town a bit.

We had such a wonderful time here! Catherine and Abit were fantastic hosts, welcoming us into their home and sharing a wealth of knowledge about their Istanbul. And quite an Istanbul it is, too. If you're looking for a posh resort experience, this is not the place for you. If …

Thanks for your kitchen feedback, Sean! Time to retire the formerly speedy water pitcher. We will be better equipped for our next guests with a new washer and gas cooktop.

Catherine and Abit are very welcoming hosts, and Catherine generously shared an enormous amount of knowledge about Istanbul and Turkey, and textiles, which is her passion and business, and my interest, and Abit gave very practical help around transport and food, especially when I…

Response from Catherine & Abit:
We are sorry not to have met your expectations, Marianne. We had just replaced the wifi modem, which must not be as powerful as our previous, so are adding a booster. The lights are being repaired, and the cooktop gas replenished. As for lively, noisy megacity Istanbul, yes we do live in a 'real' neighborhood, not one kept quiet for tourists, and some Turks keep late hours outdoors, especially in the heat of summer! That coastal highway has been there since the 1950's, but it allows us to get to Sultanahmet quickly, unlike more remote and far more expensive villages along the Bosphorus. Again, we are quite sorry for the inconveniences we've caused you.

We enjoyed our stay with Catherine & Abit. They were very welcoming and happy to answer any questions for us. Abit showed us a beautiful seafood restaurant just around the corner in the lively square. We had no issues working out public transport into the heart of Istanbul as th…
