This rental is for the private use of the yacht while at the dock, like a floating hotel suite but not like a bareboat charter... meaning the boat stays at the dock during your stay. This vessel is 55 years old and she has her quirks. I have found that the guests who enjoy their stay the most are the easy going adventurist types. If you need everything to go exactly as planned and you cannot tolerate any of this old boats quirks, the occasional cobweb or are prone to motion sickness this is probably not the place for you.
Walk to Salty's for superb seafood dinners or Sunday brunch. The Sextant bar and grill is also within walking distance.
This rental is for the use of the yacht while at the dock, like a floating suite and not a bareboat charter, meaning the boat stays at the dock during your stay. Pets must be on leash while on the dock. Children 12 and under must wear life jackets on the dock.
We had high hopes for this. It was a GREAT deal, but there were so many quirks that it didn't quite work for our family. It's a long walk from the parking lot, through the marina. It wasn't clear which lights/appliances worked and which didn't. The bathroom wasn't clean when we arrived. We were offered a refund as we arrived and found the bathroom dirty, but what options does one have at that point really? When it rained, we weren't sure how to keep the elements out. That said, I can see someone having a total blast here. And it's a GREAT deal. But just recognize that it's a bit of an adventure--like camping--rather than a more straightforward place to lay your head.
What a kick! I'd never experienced staying on a yacht before, and while this one isn't traveling anytime soon, its still a yacht. Upon entering it I smiled, sensing the history that has gone on there. This ship has lots of untold stories.
I decided not to stay in the typical hotel room on my business trip and simply see the airport, the hotel and the convention center. This was a very fun choice. It's not the cleanest 'room' that I've ever been in, nor the biggest. I'm 6'5" and the ceilings and shower were made for someone much smaller. Nonetheless, that didn't keep me from enjoying my stay.
The effort from Holly is certainly there. The bed was nicely made and inviting. The towels are fresh and soft. The cabin is stocked with every game, book, and movie that you could possibly want. The kitchen is filled with anything necessary. I felt like I was borrowing a friends cabin.
In short, I'm glad I stayed!
It's not every day you get to stay on a classic wooden motor yacht. The boat was as described along with all the quirks that a 50 year old boat would have. It is just like camping as the facilities in the yacht harbour were excellent and the short walk from the boat to the shower block was a pleasant way to wake up.
If you like adventure this is a good one. Just like the description says this is an old boat, but the charm and character have only mellowed with age. Just the experience of staying on a handcrafted yacht is worth the cost. The best sleep we have had in a long time it is so quiet and peaceful as the boat rocks you to sleep. Sitting on the aft deck in the morning having coffee is great. Holly had everything ready and was available to answer any questions. Highly recommend.
If you're considering this listing definitely book it! My trip to Portland wouldn't have been complete without a couple of nights on Holly's yacht. Holly was extremely accommodating and expedited the check-in and check-out process in a way that made it extremely convenient for me. Thanks Holly!
This was a fun place to stay for part of our visit to Portland. While it was a little hard to know if we were in the right place at first - there is construction going on & not the best signage, once we figured out we were in the right place, we had a great time. The boat has everything you could possibly need and there are additional facilities on the dock. There are also restaurants, a grocery store and anything else you might need nearby. You are under the flight path of the nearby airport, and on top of the big commercial planes, several very loud military jets took off right overhead each morning. Super loud - but neat to see! Overall, we had a fun experience staying on this boat.
We spent 3 nights on the yacht - we were very comfortable and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed coming back to our little escape from the city. It was a fun alternative to an apartment! We drove back and forth from Portland but parking was not a problem.

About the Host, Holly
We love water and boats. We lived aboard our Chris Craft with our two teen age children for 5 years. It was an amazing experience for the entire family. We hope our airbnb guests will get a taste of the live aboard experience as well.
