Welcome to our guesthouse, nestled among 200 year old cottonwood trees overlooking acres of pasture with roaming miniature donkeys, llamas, ostrich, emu and our horses!
This is an exquisite setting on a family ranch formerly run with cattle and bison. Our family has been here for over 300 years, farming, ranching and tending the land.
We are a retired professional couple and are offering our guesthouse for those seeking solitude, privacy and quiet enjoyment. Write. Read. Reflect! This is the place to do so!
The casita is a one bedroom, one bath with a balcony to enjoy the valley and mountain views while sipping your tea in the morning. We sit on about 20 acres and a private driveway, but the "jewel of Taos County- Arroyo Seco" is just a 10 minute walk down the road with 2 restaurants, and Taos Cow Ice Cream (voted in the top 10 in the nation!). There is also a grocery store, bar and a local dive to enjoy famous New Mexican chili!
If you prefer to walk in the opposite direction, you can walk up to trails that offer the best of wild and natural in Taos County. Walk along the creek to the craggy cliffs, or up to the waterfalls that veil the caves behind them. Or sit among the cottonwoods and enjoy a spectacular sunset!
Come and enjoy! Newly listed and now available! La Casita del Salto
We have a couple of mountain bikes (nothing special) if you would like to take them out.
Interaction with Guests
We usually play tennis in the morning and enjoy our evenings on the deck in the evening. We would love to meet you and hear your story!
We own about 20 acres around our home. You are welcomed to walk in the fields; there are three access gates available. All of our animals are safe and friendly. They are even more friendly with food offerings :)
You can also walk up and down Luis O. Torres road as it is a private road. Walking it behind our house takes you to an acequia (creek) and beautiful views of the valley.
There is a scheduled shuttle from Taos to Taos Ski Valley, with a stop in Arroyo Seco. Arroyo Seco is a 1 mile walk from our home, but everyone is extremely neighborly and hitchhiking is common and easy.
Other Things to Note
We have an ATV and motorcycle available for rental, depending on the season.
We understand that the area is an outdoor playground, but we ask that you not walk around inside the house in your hiking/ski boots. We will have an area set aside just inside the door where you can leave them. We would also request that any sort of equipment, such as backpacking or ski equipment, please be left outside on the deck.
We met David and his lovely wife upon our arrival but didn't see them again until our departure. We were busy skiing! La Casita was exactly as stated and perfectly situated to Taos Ski Valley (20 minutes), downtown Taos (15 minutes) and just down the street from Arroyo Secco! The casita was perfect for our family of three even without a TV or reliable wifi. We had excellent cell service until the Verizon cable was cut. LOL But who wouldn't be entertained by llamas, mini donkeys and a curious big fluffy cat! The hardwood floor in the kitchen was perfect for our competitive dancer to practice her turns and spins and entertain us after dinner. Oh and the kitchen was perfect for cooking breakfast & dinner for the three of us! We will definitely come back for ski season again and hoping to return this summer for a long weekend! Thank you David!
It was a great little place for our family! We'd love to come back in the summertime.
Very beautiful part of the Taos Valley... Unique and historic property... Plenty of privacy... So much to see and do in and around Taos that you don't have time to hang out at the property, but it is lovely just as depicted.
Staying at La Casita -a writer's cottage was really a great experience. The space is clean and private with all the amenities needed including a full kitchen, which I really appreciate when traveling. All of this is in the midst of a quiet, pastoral upscale country setting including gorgeous mountain views and nearby streams. The Arroyo Seco area is a wonderful place to stay away from the Taos summer traffic yet not too far a drive. If you enjoy shopping and eating an organic foods cafe/store, check out Sol in the village of Arroyo Seco.
I loved everything about our experience. The casita was perfect, comfortable and affordable. I also enjoyed the support the host provided! Loved it!!!
